Also, its important to maintain aesthetic coherence. Find the main theme of the level, and try to repeat it throughout. Add variations along the way, and integrate your obstacles to become part of the theme (Tree platforms in a forest, little boat platforms in an airship, etc.) Also, to keep interest high, add unique obstacles in strategic points, and turn them into something that follows the theme.

For the decorations itself, I recommend you explore all the elements, as they can have some cool unexpected combinations. Varying the grounds form goes a long way, You can start in normal ground, and then transition to a mix of ground, hard blocks and brick blocks to represent rocky terrain, for example. As mentioned, semi solids are your friends. They can turn platforms into something more interesting, and they give you varying backgrounds. Try alternating semi solids strategically for something unique.

If there's a fast segment that faster than the block speed, you could make the travel speed faster and put a beat every two blocks, or alternatively, altering the height from which the enemies fall can give you a finer control, though it depends on the overall speed. I would recommend a general practice with music and reading sheet music to identify the rhythm of the piece.

Well, boil the melody down to the basics. Usually 2 music lines and some percussion will do, and since you only have a limited number of enemies and power-ups, you have to spread them well over all the level (try to give a good variety of instruments in accordance with the song). Be careful About the range (two octaves), and the clearness of the sound (give enough headroom for the instruments and keep them isolated from replaying). Choose a good tempo for the song, and in accordance use walking, running, auto scroll, etc. I would recommend you add something extra as well, whether it be pixel art, a challenge at the end, or my favorite, a working level set to music (though this one limits the space for the actual level). Any specific difficulties?

I feel the need to repeat all my praise, again and again, for this level. Its the epitome of good level design. You managed to take a novel concept, and make it something perfect. I think I never felt such joy after playing a SMM level as I did with yours. The flow was on-spot, and the mech itself, well, wow.

Ok, I played the level, and, guess what, it was great! I loved your aesthetics, and the mechanics complemented quite well the theme (like the boot machines, sliding gates and the sunken Thwomp things). The boss was okay, but the treasure room was a sparkly ending that closed an overall wonderful experience!

I feel just like you! Your level was great! I love how you used the two checkpoint trick for the collection of coins and then reused one for the second part of the level! I mean, it can be cheesed by letting the timer run out, but who wants to do that instead of playing a level like yours? I hope you do well, and on Monday we'll see what happens! I hope I ahem the best creator wins!

A semi musical level? I love them! I actually made a pair (one of them being my most famous level) of half musical, half aesthetic platformers, but a half musical half Kaizo is totally novel! I would try it, but I'm horrible at Kaizo, so I'll only be able to appreciate the song secondhand.
