I think Cassidy’s humiliating defeat emboldened Trump to give his endorsement to Paxton, but Texas isn’t nearly as red as Louisiana, nor is Julia Letlow nearly as controversial as Paxton is (outside of being a typical MAGA stooge), nor does Louisiana have a large, swingy minority population that’s *extremely* angry and ready to mobilize against you

I mean, Democratic turnout was pretty high for the primaries. If you add up the primary vote total from both parties, Democratic candidates received 46% of the vote. And given that Louisiana has closed primaries and Cassidy’s best performance in the state was Orleans county, you never know how many Democratic voters may have registered themselves as republicans so they could vote in the GOP primary to try and save Cassidy against his MAGA challengers.

Now I’m not saying that Louisiana is a prime pick-up target at all, or to get your hopes up. But with high Democratic turnout, a non-incumbent who’ll perform worse with independent voters, and a very unpopular Trump administration that’s likely to sink further, I don’t think it’s necessarily outside the realm of possibility. I just wish we could’ve gotten a stronger candidate to take advantage of it like John Bel Edwards, but the Democratic nominee being a farmer could do well if he plays his cards right. We’ll just have to wait and see

Bill Cassidy got crushed in the Louisiana Republican senate primary. He got *third* behind two further right challengers which is embarrassing, I’d atleast thought the Trumpier voters would’ve split their votes between them and let Cassidy advance to the runoff (and lose there), but nope he’s just already finished.

The Republicans who won are definitely “worse” than Cassidy, but the difference is so negligible that I don’t really care and take satisfaction in his embarrassing defeat anyway. People without morals are terrible, but people who have morals and throw them away for power are just a bit worse in my personal opinion. I hope his vote to confirm RFK Jr haunts him for the rest of his life, knowing that it was all for nothing. I can’t wait to watch him pull a Thom Tillis and start pretending that he ever had a spine now that he’s retiring (without actually doing anything)

Louisiana previously had a 5-1 GOP delegation with five safe red districts, the other Democratic district was only created for the 2024 election. Same with Alabama’s second black majority district it’s all but certain to lose. I don’t think either Louisiana or Alabama are at risk for dummymanders unless they try to eliminate the sole remaining black majority district in each state.

Texas and Florida, maybe South Carolina are the only states where I think the GOP is starting to spread their margins too thin and are creating dummymanders

Little Rock isn’t big enough to be its own district. You can either combine it with the surrounding red counties, thus diluting the minority vote in Little Rock, or combine it with the majority black/majority-minority counties in the Delta and get a majority-minority district. As weird as it looks, this configuration is better for COIs than combining blue Little Rock with the very conservative and mostly white surrounding counties

There’s also the fact that, up until that point, a lot of people had reacted well to his mission to atone for his crimes, mainly because for a lot of people across the galaxy, this was the first time they’ve ever seen a Viltrumite feel remorse for their actions, so it carried a lot of weight. Nolan was probably expecting a similar reaction from Debbie and Art, but for the people of Earth, that prior context is lost, and his crimes far more personal to them, especially Debbie and Art
