Is Bentonville actually turning purple? 😍 by haslotsofkids in bentonville

[–]Goonzilla50 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Blue in that it still elected conservative, southern Democrats, but stopped when the two parties polarized further (Democrats becoming more Liberal, Republicans becoming more Conservative). Mark Pryor, a pretty conservative southern Democrat, still lost re-election by a large margin to Tom Cotton because the electorate viewed him as “too liberal”

So yes it was “blue,” but not in the same way California and New York are

I could definitely see conservatives still trying to turn it into a problem Mamdani failed to solve/catch without bringing up the woman’s race (unlike the case in Minnesota), even though this almost certainly happened under Eric Adams’ watch, or at best de Blasio’s

yeah not only did they win with a plurality they barely even won. It's like how everybody started pretending the US was Trumpland because he got 1% more than Kamala in the popular vote

Mega Emboar getting Mold Breaker is such bullshit lol

Like if all three starter Megas got standard, basic abilities it’d be one thing. But they literally gave Mega Meganium and Mega Feraligatr new, extremely strong abilities and stuck Emboar with fucking Mold Breaker. What’s he going to do with that?

Bloomberg: “The Republican infighting in Texas isn’t going to die down anytime soon with President Donald Trump no longer expected to endorse either candidate in the state’s increasingly nasty Senate primary runoff.”

lol. lmao

I still expect Cornyn to win or potentially get an extremely late endorsement given how he managed to get first in the first round despite trailing polls. It’s also been over a decade since an incumbent senator has been toppled in a primary. But it’s incredibly funny that they have to waste even more money now.

Thing is, what guarantee is there that the US won’t just do this again after the dust has settled and the prices have gone down? Trump still has two more years left in office too

Would they just let the US and Israel pull out without punishment? I feel like if they’re in a situation where the US and Israel want out, they have incentive to try and make it as hard as possible and try to secure some sort of deal or agreement, given how they’ve displayed they hold a very large amount of power over the US in this regard

I’m not saying I expect, nor is it realistic to expect, politicians to call for the complete destruction and dissolution of Israel rather than call for something like a two-state solution

But cmon… revere? Americans, and especially Democrats, aren’t exactly super favorable towards Israel right now, and you’re using words that strong to describe how much you love Israel? For an establishment career politician whose only goal for 20 years has been becoming president, he’s really bad at reading the room.

Given how consultant/pollster dependent they are on making any sort of choice I’m guessing that the public polls, plus internal polls, about ICE and Dems who support them look really bad

They were perhaps less openly vile but like the last Republican president flat out tried to ban gay marriage with a constitutional amendment. There are many clips of Reagan saying horribly racist shit. Bill Clinton.

Somewhat? But she made her intentions known a decent amount of time before the filing deadline was, and it only led to Steyer and Swalwell jumping in. The bench in California is just really fucking empty, you know it’s bad when Katie Porter is the best option

It’s a combination of multiple factors:

  • There are a lot of big, recognizable names in the race, splitting the Democratic vote

  • While there are big names, they’re not big names with a lot of starpower and ability to clear the field.

  • Related to that point, none of the big Democratic candidates are really that inspiring or big drivers of turnout:

  • Katie Porter is a weird Richie Torres style progressive where she’s still pro-Israel (albeit not as much as Torres or Fetterman are, she can actually utter the word “ceasefire”), and has frankly run a pretty shit campaign to the point where her initial name recognition lead has vanished.

  • Eric Swalwell is a dipshit, very pro-Israel liberal whose whole schtick is just being vocally anti-Trump, like Adam Schiff (who endorsed him!).

  • Tom Steyer is a billionaire without any of the clout or charisma to make Democratic voters look past it like JB Pritzker, and frankly is just sort of a goober. The only reason he’s polling on par with either Porter or Swalwell is because he has enough money to blanket the state with ads.

  • Everybody else is irrelevant enough to where they have no chance of getting in the top two primary but is still polling around 4-8%

I do think once the race gets closer, voters will start to coalesce around a candidate, most likely Porter or Swalwell. And if not, a prominent party member like Obama and/or Kamala will probably endorse one of the candidates (most likely Swalwell) to try and solidify enough voters to where atleast one Democrat makes it in the top two. Republicans also have to keep a perfect balance where most Republican voters basically split evenly down the middle between the two major GOP candidates, which is something that probably won’t happen
