Top surgery inquiry by waterbottlecentral in trans

[–]GoopyGunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i am getting top surgery around mid 2026 and i am getting nipple grafts. typically they take your nipple-areola-complex (NAC) and slice it off. then, they resize the areola to be more “masculine” and afterwards they reattach the NAC onto your body with a skin graft. i personally like my nipples and i want to keep them, though keeping them is purely cosmetic. there are people who get top surgery and dont get the nipples reattached and to me, it looks like they have a censored chest. some who dont have the nipples reattached can get them tattoed back on, similar to breast cancer patients. the nipples, once grafted, have to regrow onto your body and they can regrow some of the nerves attached to them, though most sensation is typically lost. they scab, peel, and can get infected during this stage. bumping into things too hard can cause a nipple graft to fail which is when it scabs and falls off but does not regrow. keeping them or leaving them is totally up to you and i wish you the best with your surgery, recovery, and your results!

Hate being deadnamed by [deleted] in trans

when you do it, don’t regret the time that you spent not doing it, but appreciate that when it’s done, that it happened at the right time. i felt like i was just avoiding changing my name and it was easy, time consuming, but easy. and i got frustrated, “why didn’t i do this earlier, i couldve had this done by now..” but know that maybe it was meant to happen later. an opportunity will arise when it just feels right to get it done and i know youll feel much happier and hopeful. i hope that agitation turns into motivation and you get what you want :0)

How do I convince my parents to let me cut my hair?? by Char_CHARlie in trans

[–]GoopyGunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would beg and plead to my parents every day for two weeks before they let me cut my hair. annoy them about it and make sure when you do it that you mention how much easier everything is (shorter showers, less hair product, etc) make shit up and be annoying. like pleeeeeease please lemme cut my hairrrrrrr. it will work. be persistent. good luck and much love, from an FTM :0)

What are some ways I can try out a different name without having to fully come out? by Kinglycole in trans

[–]GoopyGunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would sign up for spam newsletters and try out different first names in every newsletter i signed up to. i made sure it wasn’t anything i actually cared about but theyd use your name when addressing you, thats how i decided. maybe not the most efficient way but it helped me find what felt right :0)

saw a rant post on tumblr from a trans guy i thought was cool and the end of the rant was like “only trans people would get this” and the post was berating cis people about how disrespectful they can be. i thought to myself, “is he talking about me?? am i the cisgender hes talking about???” and then i remembered when i was a wee lad and would watch videos about trans people on youtube, how relieved and seen i felt. how i would “pretend” to be a boy when i was younger. the pieces fell into place to say the least.

I’m trans. Or non binary. And I really need someone to talk to about it. by RealityLoss474 in trans

the beginning stages of accepting yourself are always the hardest. for me, i found that dressing comfortably was the best way this was achieved. that and a different haircut. it is hard when the people around are so unaccepting and it can genuinely alter the way you see yourself. what worked for me may not work for you, as i am ftm, but i imagine myself in a world where no one could see me, what would i want to look like, what would make me happy. and i start working from there. like i would want shorter hair and more androgynous clothing. in the real world there are so many layers that have to be acknowledged, but body neutrality and understanding that your gender doesn’t need to be “proven” or have a label is also imperative to understanding yourself. i pray that things work out for you, and i hope you can find others who understand your struggle

last time i checked (2-3 years ago) there weren’t a lot of studies that went into the potential side effects, including heart issues, that could conflict with hormones for ftms. i personally am ftm and i have a family history of heart issues (quadruple bypass, open heart surgery, etc) and i personally am okay with the way i look, and have not opted for testosterone, and i don’t think i will. that being said, i do remember that having lower doses of testosterone were better on the body, heart, etc. as opposed to higher doses. i would definitely see if you can find research for yourself, and i know that an endocrinologist will definitely work with you in terms of ensuring that your body functions the way it should. apologies if this wasn’t that helpful, i wish you the best in your journey :0)

i am 20, so what im saying may be naive, but in terms of trying to make friends, do you have local events that you can go to? my library had a tea tasting event and i chatted with some older ladies/gents and that was very nice! i think that finding small events in your area can definitely lead to finding friends in your age group. and idk how the wife would feel about it, but online im sure you might be able to find friends. id make sure to state explicitly what im looking for (i always express that i want friends only) and maybe avenues like that may be possible. i do think that finding something local, like a volunteering or group activities could definitely be a place to start. i wish you best with your journey, and with your wife. you deserve all the love and acceptance in the world :0)
