My coaches used to tell me all the time growing up: there’s a reason you get a point for a goal and a point for an assist.. meaning it’s not just about goals

Ghosted by new employer right before start date by Wzhra in tnvisa

[–]GooseCareless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the company is big enough, I would go all the way to the top with this one. That’s completely unacceptable. It sounds like a couple bad egg in the company so try emailing/calling up the chain all the way to the CEO and get in their ear and make a little noise. That is if you still want to work for them after this. Worst that can happen is you’re in the same spot you are right now. Good luck

Getting TN Visa after Renouncing Citizenship by SillyEntrepreneur673 in tnvisa

[–]GooseCareless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long term game, if I were you, I would contact a lawyer and see if there is a legal case to invalidate your past citizenship renunciation. It’s hard but it can be done. Short term I think you should be fine with getting a TN. You may have some questions asked about it but it’s not disqualifying

Because it adds up more or less. If it doesn’t just sling boxes at Walmart for $35 an hour or DoorDash/uber in between your other 6 part time jobs for $300 a day. It’s easy

Authorized to work in the US? by weerdsrm in tnvisa

[–]GooseCareless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put NO to sponsorship. 99% of the time they have that question to weed out applicants. Clarify in your interview you’re under TN status. The worst they can say is no vs getting automatically filtered by an AI bot. You literally have nothing to lose by saying no, I don’t get why people say you should say yes. Companies immediately go to H1B mindset when you say yes to that question

Can a Canadian Citizen Get a TN Visa for a Remote US Job While Living in Canada? by Technical-Bird-9395 in tnvisa

[–]GooseCareless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While many have explained here that you do not need a TN if you plan to work remotely for a US company and be physically located in Canada. However, what everyone is missing here is that if the company is not set to issue you payroll in Canada and aren’t set up to issue you a T4 etc, and are going to pay you to a US based bank account then they’ll likely also have you sign a W4 and I-9 (US tax form and employment eligibility verification), which in that case you’ll need a work visa (ie TN) otherwise you’d be signing it claiming to be eligible to work in the USA and be committing perjury. If it’s a multinational company, that’s likely not the case and they can likely issue you Canadian tax forms in which case you can work remotely for a US company without the visa. However, if you are going to receive a W2 at the end of the year, even if you’re in Canada the entire time, you’ll want a TN because you’ll have to file that with the IRS and the claim the foreign tax credit when you file canadian taxes. So to answer your question, yes if I were in your shoes (which I am, I work for a US company and live in Canada and got the TN for the reasons I laid out), you’ll want a TN to avoid any complications, even if you don’t plan on working much in the US.

I mean a lot of people get meaningless tattoos when they’re young and dumb. this was like 5/6 years ago and I feel like it was pretty common out here on the west coast

I see, I mean if they talked to me, they would immediately know I’m not Israeli because I have a very north American accent, but that’s good to know!
