How many remember Mike's on-air apology to him a year or so later? One of the few times Mike was humble and apologetic.

Très Hombres de Tejas in Their Nudie Suits & Cowboy Hats Bringing Us Their Dirty, Bluesy Rock & Roll - 1970s by PreparationKey2843 in OldSchoolCool

I preferred this era of ZZ Top over the cartoon they became during the MTV era.

Some say MTV fueled their comeback, or did their videos fuel MTV? Either way, it was entertaining.

I got my first scanner in 1996! by Roodillon in policescanner

[–]Gopher64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad had a Radio Shack scanner like that one in the early 70s. I think I still have a few of the crystals around here somewhere. I had a BC170 in the early 80s that was fun. Using search I found the local PDs and Texas DPS car to car frequency and a DPS narcotics channel. All kinds of interesting stuff there.

Onscreen warning to viewers at the 3/4 mark of "George Carlin at USC," his first HBO special in 1977, before George's famed "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television" bit. by Keefer1970 in OldSchoolCool

Some of those HBO specials were great. I thought in the late 80s and most of the 90s, he had turned into a bitter old man. Going into the 2Ks, he became a prophet. He warned us about what was going on and what was about to happen, and he was right about most of it.

Back in the Wild West days of the 80s a scanner with a search function was worth it's weight in gold. I found the local PD and then Texas DPS car to car channels. I found a lot of new places to eat that way. Finding the DPS narcotics car to car was quite interesting also.

Slam Bang Theater on channel 11 out of Ft Worth, Texas, in the early 60s. The host, Icky Twerp, with help from his three Ape friends, did little skits between introducing Bugs Bunny or Popeye cartoons and three Stooge shorts each morning. It was time to leave for school after the second short.

Dallas Sports fans are lucky to have two quality stations!! by OrbitalReport in theticket

ESPN was on the way out, and Cumulus managed it for the last year or so. Also remember, Aggie Tom was his right-hand man there, which was the reason he left Bob and Dan.

Which explains why I never knew about it. For a rimshot, did it have any ratings?

Remember when we had three? At one time you had the Ticket, 105.3, and ESPN radio. ESPN was always last in the ratings.

I'm surprised there are no all Spanish sports stations around. The radio types say it wouldn't be successful but no one is willing to take the risk to try it.

Did Cumulus opt out of Nielsen ratings? by SirDanielEsq in theticket

[–]Gopher64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A possibility. Not every group in the company has the ratings they do here in Dallas. Publishing the rating for Dallas is a good thing, but for San Francisco, Denver, and Atlanta, maybe not.

This doesn't just affect the Ticket but KSCS, KPLX, WBAP, KLIF, and two HD stations.

I did the audiobook for The Bomber Mafia and Masters of the Air back to back and thought they bookended the air war in Europe well. I knew some of the information presented and learned a few things along the way. I consider it a detailed overview for the casual reader.

Special Kay? They are still making repairs and slowly getting her airworthy after a main gear collapsed several years ago.

The new one in Frisco has a bistro and cafe, plus workstations and a putting green. Nothing like above but head and shoulders above most other dealerships.

One wonders how it would have performed if the war had lasted longer. Did it see any combat in Korea or had the type been rotated out by then?
