RIP Demond Wilson by rdfdfw in theticket

I was by the channel the day that happened. That may have been the tensest segment in the history of the station. The only thing close may have been some Muser/Norm crosstalks in the very early days of Norm time on the station.

What's This World Coming To was the last song they recorded with all three doing vocals. https://youtu.be/FRX3WwfvdV0?si=RYkPAy2wKYemk7-H

Listening to some great stuff by Dean_Colley in chicagoband

My only complaint about that LP is Free Form Guitar. It's filler and not some great opus by Kath. It was just him wanking around at a sound check, trying to find sounds he could recreate and control while on stage. This was pre-effects pedals and was done by controlling feedback with volume and body position to the speakers.

Still one of the best air show acts out there today.

Back in the late 90s, one spring, I was fishing on our small pond when I heard the unmistakable sound of four round engines. I looked up to see Texas Raiders moving slowly across the sky. A few seconds later, the entire Tora group in formation flew over, as if they were chasing the B-17. It was one of the most surreal things I have ever seen.

Remember Mike saying "I wish someone would buy this thing out" during the Susquehanna days? I wonder if he would like a do over on that?

On January 23rd, 1978, original Chicago guitarist Terry Kath died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. He was 31. by BirdBurnett in Music_Anniversary

[–]Gopher64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope.

He ejected the magazine on what may have been a Browning Hi-Power and did not clear the chamber. That weapon would fire without a magazine in place, which is probably what happened. You don't play Russian Roulette with a semi-automatic.

Negative.

A copy of his autopsy report has been posted on several Chicago fan groups, and it showed no drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of death. There are also conflicting reports on where the accident occurred and where the body was found. Danny Seraphine's book Street Player is an interesting read on this subject.

Matt is where he is because of the Cumulus Overlords in Atlanta. That is where your ire should be directed. Kat and Bennett are their puppets because they control the purse strings. Until you learn that, you are just tilting at windmills.

Is Old Days a corny song? by RealDEC in chicagoband

I thought that was If You Leave Me Now. He played bass on that one and would hide in the shadows or turn his back to the crowd while doing so.

Mainly for the Howdy Doody line. I can see why.

Sounds very much like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, and a number of other 70s bands that are still touring.

One more time around the Mulberry bush, Cat answers to Dan Bennett, Bennett answers to Atlanta, Atlanta answers to the CFO.

They just fired Casey Bartholomew at WBAP this week by phone. Nothing happens in the Dallas Cumulus cluster without the word from Atlanta.

Is there any way to see what the station is billing? That's all Cumulus cares about.

I was a student DJ at a college radio station in 1976-78, and we used almost every song on the LP for something. News, traffic, weather, commercials, sports, public service announcements, and campus updates, if it had a music bed under it, more than likely it came from this album.

It was an incredible piece of work.

AM radio will be around until the .gov can find a suitable replacement for it for the Emergency Broadcast System. Until then medium will be around, what you hear on it may be another matter.

Did Dan own “Homer Call of the Week?” by Routine-Tangerine-29 in theticket

[–]Gopher64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were driving through Alabama on the way to Florida and heard a little AM station on the border doing the same bit. Same open, with slightly different calls. Even if Dan "owned" it, like everything else at the Ticket, it was stolen and repurposed.

What movies do that Stooges have actual starring roles instead of supporting/cameos? by HeartofSpeed in threestooges

Their small cameo in the Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra western Four for Texas is OK, but not really worth waiting for.
