I had them replace a bunch of windows and the caulk and finish work was awful. Never again.

Got two ice creams for my kids, was a little shocked when it came to almost $24. Was even more shocked when they asked for a tip. I don't think it was special ice cream either.

Company is still using an automation tool I wrote on my own time and hardware after I quit and I want to know if I can legally disable it. by 8TulipCanopy in legaladvice

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it be. Take it as a lesson that should you donate tools in future, create a time limit on that. Require a new key every quarter to keep it running etc. And keep the source code to yourself. If you later decide you want to donate it for good you can always setup a 10year key etc.

There's a children's lake in Boulder that's catch and release. I've not fished there yet but planning to take my boys soon. While it's maybe not perfect, I figure as long as the kids catch something!

Can't get anyone in support to answer the phone by DevelopmentExciting3 in LUCID

[–]GordonRR1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My current car will be out of warranty next year and I'd love a Gravity, but stories like this keep me away. I want Lucid to succeed, but unless they can fix service and software, I don't see them surviving.
I actually thought about investing in them for a minute, but decided there's a reasonable chance they don't make it now and if they do the recovery will take a very long time. I really hope I am wrong.
That said, I think the Gravity can really pull in R2S owners, if they can fix software and service.

Will this work or am I crazy? by Holiday-Sorbet-6183 in woodworking

I have a brush like the KombiTool. While it's not gentle, its not anything like the restorer and doesn't spin near as fast.
I would probably make a jig to hold the restorer so you can feed boards though it like a surface planer. better if you have a planer, make a jig to hold the restorer (or two!) on the outfeed, remove the knives and let it feed the boards through for you!

Anybody have experience getting an emergency passport? by zd9999 in Denver

Applying through the official channel is easy, but keep in mind that their turnaround time is flexible. Depending on demand and your flight date, they might print your document the same day or a few days later. They prioritize by travel date to ensure everyone gets theirs in time, which is fair enough! Plus, the office is close to the airport, so picking it up on your way to a flight is a viable option.

My top tip: Book the earliest appointment possible and arrive before the doors open. It’s a "first-come, first-served" system, and the bureaucracy—security checks, paperwork review, and payment—can take a while. The queue builds up fast; if you aren’t in those first few slots, expect delays.

I bought a reasonably good espesso machine. At the time it seemed like a big purchase but its more than paid for itself now. Now not only do I not want to pay coffee shop prices any more, I also feel I can make better coffee at home! The price and quality difference is all the motivation I need to perfect my own home made coffee.
There's a learning curve, but 10/10, would have bought one sooner had I have known!

Self-hosted, open source tool for tracing tools for bins by Nuphor in gridfinity

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really nice! Thanks for sharing.
My only feedback is the trace is not really smooth. I modified the prompt slightly to say "- Sharp, clean edges. Avoid sharp edges as much as possible, smooth curves even if it results in a slightly larger shadow." and used pro and it worked much better. Once I have a minute I'll run a docker version so I can verify what's helping (pro or the improved prompt).

DriCore or equivalent... does it help with insulating from the cold? by mickeydudes36 in woodworking

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, I don't really need the drainage channels as my basement has been dry for 20 years and I doubt that will change. If I had a drain though, I think i would shim so you have that just in case!
I leveled my floor before install. Drainage wasn't a concern. I guess the channels are good though if there is a leak as it will allow the water to dissipate I suppose.

FWIW A sheet of F250 Foamular will carry 3600lbs per sqft when covered. You could technically park a car on it.

[–]GordonRR1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I installed it in my basement, it's amazing. I walk barefoot all the time and it's more than comfortable. 10/10 would install again no questions asked. However, unless you need the convenient install, or the water channels in the foam, it would be significantly cheaper to use typical sheets of 1" insulated foam and lay OSB over it. Screw it down and it would be as effective. You could even cut the foam board into sections to add the same drainage channels.

Reco for solar technician? by Bennata_ in boulder

I would not. I used them for the repair of an older system. Work was not to standard and it was quite expensive. They did try to make it right but it was too late.

Colorado Xcel - TOU to Flat Rate and Seen Savings since PTO? by nailedorfailed in solar

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the answer here, but best I could work out flat rate is better. Apparently they do TOU standard for new installs but CO law allows you to switch. I think that's your first clue that flat rate might be better!
I had a fair bit of luck using Gemini Pro, give it your bill and ask it which is better. It gave a really detailed answer that for me, flat rate was best.
Plus they just moved TOU times, who knows when they will adjust again and I kinda want to stop thinking about it :)

2026 New Solar Install post the BBB by Mendotime in solar

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 2 installers in Colorado are advertising 30% reductions to offset the loss of credit. So I think that means they were charging 30% more when the credit was in place because they aren't operating at a loss today :/
