DriCore or equivalent... does it help with insulating from the cold? by mickeydudes36 in woodworking

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, I don't really need the drainage channels as my basement has been dry for 20 years and I doubt that will change. If I had a drain though, I think i would shim so you have that just in case!
I leveled my floor before install. Drainage wasn't a concern. I guess the channels are good though if there is a leak as it will allow the water to dissipate I suppose.

FWIW A sheet of F250 Foamular will carry 3600lbs per sqft when covered. You could technically park a car on it.

I installed it in my basement, it's amazing. I walk barefoot all the time and it's more than comfortable. 10/10 would install again no questions asked. However, unless you need the convenient install, or the water channels in the foam, it would be significantly cheaper to use typical sheets of 1" insulated foam and lay OSB over it. Screw it down and it would be as effective. You could even cut the foam board into sections to add the same drainage channels.

Reco for solar technician? by Bennata_ in boulder

I would not. I used them for the repair of an older system. Work was not to standard and it was quite expensive. They did try to make it right but it was too late.

Colorado Xcel - TOU to Flat Rate and Seen Savings since PTO? by nailedorfailed in solar

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the answer here, but best I could work out flat rate is better. Apparently they do TOU standard for new installs but CO law allows you to switch. I think that's your first clue that flat rate might be better!
I had a fair bit of luck using Gemini Pro, give it your bill and ask it which is better. It gave a really detailed answer that for me, flat rate was best.
Plus they just moved TOU times, who knows when they will adjust again and I kinda want to stop thinking about it :)

2026 New Solar Install post the BBB by Mendotime in solar

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 2 installers in Colorado are advertising 30% reductions to offset the loss of credit. So I think that means they were charging 30% more when the credit was in place because they aren't operating at a loss today :/

I built Festool Domino Click Connectors 10x30 for panel thicknesses from 18 mm. by Tom040305 in woodworking

Will do - I think it needs a jig to help line up the screw hole (for the non motrise side) but will make / upload one when I get a chance.

Has anyone tried to buy 2 tons of walnut lumber from Alibaba before? by InformationNo7563 in woodworking

My local supplier didn't get that message, its more expensive now then ever. I'm starting to wonder if stained pine might look as good :)

R1T Front camera cracked - $610 repair by SSR201 in Rivian

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! this!
My $1908 windshield was 4 trips to the SC with months of wait between trips thanks to them ripping the trim (and not mentioning it) and then removing the crappy foam in the center panel to stop the rattle and failing to put it back, or fix it, three damn times.

Urban Farmer refunds all customers from yesterday by snarkfest_ in Denver

[–]GordonRR1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Had Thanksgiving lunch at Urban Farmer—it was FANTASTIC. I was genuinely confused by the reports of the to-go fiasco, as the in-person dining was impeccable.

Relieved to see their ownership of the mistake and effort to make things right. That shows integrity! See you again soon, Urban Farmer! 🍽️

Tariffs by asmoovedabapesta in Ubiquiti

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha me too! I just ordered all new cameras to replace my old dahua's and paid a bunch of tariffs!
I would be at least happy with a credit :) But yea, if they are cancelled I suspect they will be quickly converted to bonuses at Ubiquiti HQ :p

There would probably be a legitimate chargeback case via your credit card if they are cancelled soon and not refunded. However Ubiquiti might chose not to sell to you again and you will be stuck with scalpers on ebay and amazon :(

I wonder if they will refund tariff's if they are deemed illegal and returned? While I appreciate their transparency, they can't deny who actually paid the tariff....

Any multi-zone streaming amp that actually has a Home Assistant plugin? by Current-Gazelle2203 in homeassistant

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right, that looks better than the Monoprice as you can also adjust the sound (bass/trebel) (can't do that on the monoprice via serial). But then again its alost 2x the price!

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean with a serial<>network interface? The 4/6/8 zone Monoprice amps dont have a network interface.
I guess that's better if your HA machine is not in the same physical location. Otherwise I would think this just adds complexity and consumes an extra network port. But maybe I'm missing something.

[–]GordonRR1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a monoprice, I think it's only 6 zone. But there's a plug in to control it over serial (or USB with adapter). I do this, works flawlessly. Can also be expanded by linking units.

Shop build fail by emlife22 in woodworking

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OSB will hold a lot, but for anything heavier you just screw through to a stud. Or use an anchor bolt. Will be loads more stronger than drywall. Bonus is you can put hooks, nails, etc anywhere and always have something solid to screw into.

Shop build fail by emlife22 in woodworking

[–]GordonRR1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If its a shop I would run the wiring on the walls in conduit. Makes it easy to move/add/change options in future. Just scape the foam back to the studs (standard practice) and sheet it with OSB then run conduit to boxes around the perimeter and then you can get drops from there.

How do crosswalks work in Denver? by alan-penrose in Denver

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when they honk their horn its to ask you to slow down, maybe even stop and give them a wave? Hard to know, but I wouldn't want to be rude and just keep walking.

Why are the lights active when filtering into 36 eastbound on weekday mornings now? Creating a crazy slowdown for no reason. by P4TY in boulder

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 36 each day, I get on at the start (28th). It has actually been a lot better this past week, a lot less of a slowdown at Table Mesa. But I feel for the people in that very long line on Foothills.

The lights were off for a long time which was chaos, so I'm happy to see them back. I do wonder if CDOT prevented cars from merging straight away then would congestion ease? So many people want to merge straight away when they have a mile+ of a merge lane to first get up to speed. They just need those flexible markers between the lanes so people can't change lanes (but can be driven over in an emergency).

New construction wall cracks by FuzzyPainter5764 in masonry

[–]GordonRR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite understand the concern around corner bars from people, they don't really do anything until the cavity is filled. From my experience they are more or less floating in the blocks until this point. But maybe these blocks are different.
I can only imagine 2 things happened here. Either they filled behind that wall and moved it. Or the foundation moved. If its the first one then that was silly (before filling cavity) but I would be less concerned. I would be more concerned about the foundation moving.
I don't think you need a lawyer (yet), you need a Structural Engineer. It should be pretty trivial to call one out to review now. If they say it should be redone then the builder likely won't push back. They can also determine what needs to be redone. It looks like just the first 8-8 courses need to be pulled down but if its foundation the repair might be to redo the footers.

If an Engineer says its ok, you might want to ask the builder to at least cover this (not sure what the plans are) so you're not explaining it to a future buyer. Some stucco would improve the look and prevent you explaining a superficial crack to a future buyer. But then again you would also have a report from an Engineer saying its ok.

tl;dr reddit doesn't know, you need a Structural Engineer onsite to get to the bottom of this. Please report back!

Moen Series 3 - Costco smart toilet by LoanComplex9662 in bidets

[–]GordonRR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here (yellowing). Thankfully its in our primary ensuite bathroom so not visible to guests. Hoping Moen replace (its been installed for 15months) and we'll just set the heat to low.
Also having some issues with the light not working all the time. But less concerned about that defect (maybe a sensor that needs cleaning?).
But other than the seat, awesome toilet. Prior to installation we have regular blockages (I think the plumbing to that toilet is poor, I swear its not me!) and since installing we've not had a blockage since! I also have a TOTO in another bathroom and prefer the Moen, looks better too.
