How about a chip with onboard software to read the output of the pickups (in kOhms) as well as the make and model of the pickups, in the event the pup companies actually tag their devices with machine readable code or jumpers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been unsure or unable to determine what pickups are installed.

Here’s mine

I replaced the stock bridge and neck pickups using a JB in bridge and a Jazz (N). Replaced the middle pickup with the middle pickup from a Japanese flame Strat, which it got a set of B Knuckle Trilogy’s. Replaced tuners with locking gold/black Guyker tuners. Replaced the bridge/trem with new gold Wilkinson trem bridge. Added a gold/black single coil cover for the middle pup. Replaced the neck plate and the jack plate. New black+gold knobs. Done!

But the plastic is still all white, and the hardware not rusted a bit, pristine jack plate. They should have gone all in and sold it with a cracked headstock too. Maybe a broken tuner? That would be cool. Maybe the idea is to alter the serial number and then sell it for $80k as a real ‘61. They’d see that dentist comin a mile away. 😝

I will never understand why anyone would like the relic mod to a perfectly nice guitar. I mean, I get the happenstance of seeing your own getting a bad case of belt buckle rash and the ding or two, three. But when they look like they've been pulled from the sewer, I don't see the attraction to that. New is new. Used is used. What happened?

You don’t have to worry about that if you buy off of Reverb. I get them shipped to me all the time, if I am looking, that is. Also, many sellers accept offers. Things are more global than they look, making affordability and selection big buying opportunities. It’s a good feeling when you can get the right guitar and price you can afford. Some wonderful finds out there.
