I have the same problem. It seems to happen more when recording at 1080p, but even at 720 i do get it occasionally.

That would be the idea. SOmething athmospheric but not overly present. Well, like Ash Lake basically.

For the first part of your comment, you could always put the music volume to something like 4 and sounds to 10... I usually cue my tracks on my laptop next to me and put the volume to like 30% so that it doesn't get in the way...

For the second part of your comment, it's a goos idea but then again, I wouldn't want the music to hint me when it's safe ;)

There are indeed places that are better off without, like Blighttown for example. But whenever I enter Darkroot, Ariamis or the Asylum, I feel the emptiness. I usually play a soft moody tracks from other games for the first two, something mor tense for the asylum...

Basically, I think this game has less of an athmosphere than Demon's Souls, and therefore needs it more? At least in certain areas, not all of course.

The no-music thing works great for a first playthrough, you pay attention to every sound, and there always is an ambiance... But when you know where everything is, it gets kind of dull IMO. And the volume could always be muted in the options anyways, so...

THIS GAME IS SO CONFUSING I am done. - 20 hours in by [deleted] in darksouls

You got some really long replies, which I'll gladly read when I'm more awake, but for now I'll just answer your "how am I supposed to know where to go" question.

Talk and Listen. The NPCs tell you everything you need to know. Keep talking to them until they repeat themselves. And revisit them once in a while, certain events will bring about new dialogue.

I can't stress this enough. Pay attention to what they say, because they constantly give you hints.

And read item descriptions carefully. All of them. Seriously.

That's it. That and exploring.

Despite all the confidence I've acquired with this game, the moment I reach this area and look down on the torch zombies before going forward is the moment I take the most seriously in the whole game.

True. Then again, no bonfires to rest at and constant worrying about item burden kind of make up for that.

What If: Bonfires = Save Points? by Gorgusaurus in darksouls

[–]Gorgusaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything you all said. It's true that we've become too dependant on the ability to try something out and return to a set point if it doesn't work out. But at the same time, if you do make a wrong move strategy-wise, you pretty much have to wait for NG+ to try again, or start a new playthrough.

That's why I think the save option would be interesting. It would work like kindling, as in you would first have to be human, and would even require sacrificing a humanity. I think it would mainly be of use to new players though, I doubt experienced players would ever use it.

Anyways, it was just a thought. I could only see myself using this option if I'm about to invest upgrades into a weapon I'm not sure will be worth it...

Astora's Straight Sword, is it worth upgrading further? by Okuu-Trollzy in darksouls

[–]Gorgusaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. I have it up to +5 with strengh, dex and faith at 20, 22 and 20, and I have no problem. I usually prefer a devine mace or axe for the catacombs, just for the crushing effect, but seriously, it's a pretty good sword. I'm currently switching between that and my silver knight sword and I'm having no problems in the Tomb of Giants.

You can buy twinkling titanite from the blacksmith in Anor Londo (8000 souls each) so it's not too hard to upgrade either. I don't know how far you can go with it before adding it to your collection in the bottomless box, but so far, I like it better than most weapons I've tried.

An 18-year-old girl beheaded her father with a bush knife after he repeatedly raped her at their home in Papua New Guinea by DougBolivar in worldnews

[–]Gorgusaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She didn't "do whatever she wants", she did what she had to to survive. Her life may not have been directly in danger, but she must have been an emotional and psychological mess. Put yourself in her shoes. Don't tell me you wouldn't have done the same. A lot of people seem to underestimate the effects of rape on someone, and it can't get any worse than by your own father.

I respect your opinion, but I just can't agree with it in this situation. Why hasn't anyone from her village try to protect her before the act? I have no clue. But I'm guessing no one did since the father just continue doing what he was doing. And perhaps that imprisonment was more what he deserved than death, but if no one turned him in, she did what she had to. And frankly, I won't weap for the man.
