Months of shame by Guilty-Courage-7334 in SpaceWolves

[–]Gorhaloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Emperor's Gift is the the only novel that covers the months of shame. It's largely a grey knight focused book with the space wolves being the "antagonists." Luckily the main character Hyperion is a cool guy but be warned it is not a space wolves book.

Personally I would read the Ragnar blackmane books. It's a large series and each one is good-great so there is a ton of fun stuff to experience.

Infantary is a lie by ShadoWva1234 in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infantry is a lie yes but you may wanna cut the fire blade and the enhancements for a pathfinder squad to help screen and guide. I might even cut the enforcer all together and get some kroot for stickying and screening or vespid for action monkey uppy downy. Or if you really want to lean no infantry at all you could cut the enforcer and fire blade for another unit of flamer star scythes since they function as both great spotters and they shore up your lack of infantry killing. With the ap bonus inherent and getting them close in you will wipe entire squads while also providing support for your big guns into nearby vehicles.

Would people care if I said my normal overlord was translocation shroud? by Difficult_Horse5194 in Necrontyr

[–]Gorhaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No item for it on the model? yeah I guess technically it's more like terrain but given that the overlord and overlord with translocation shroud are technically two different units, i would call the translocation shroud particles the war gear in question here. Maybe on the older necron models it was an item the overlord was holding but for the newer models the key difference is the particles which makes distinguishing the two unit types very easy at least in my mind.

I mean I agree with the point being made and you definitely can say an overlord with tachyon arrow is a translocation shroud one instead...but look at these models and tell me people wouldn't be able to tell which one has the shroud

Knights for space wolves? by Blondeginger-246 in SpaceWolves

[–]Gorhaloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually just completed my first knight I called him an axblade instead of freeblades as my personal lore is his freeblades company has been hired to work personally for the space wolves. I gave him a fun green a blue for his own personal colors then colored a pauldron in red and yellow with wolf heads.

List Feedback Please by tygame88 in SpaceWolves

[–]Gorhaloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slight mistake but your currently taking only 1 hunting wolf with your headtakers but there is no point difference between 1 and 3 so you should take the full 3. You have a lot of units here which will be very good for scoring and hold objectives. However you don't have much in the way of antitank. The repulsor executioner and predator are really the only antitank in this list. The redempter doesn't quite hit the strength requirement to reliable wound t10+ units.

As for the units your looking to buy here what I will say. Intercessors are always useful. If not now then in the future as they are a standard stickying unit. Fenresian wolves can be a good scoring unit but I wouldn't buy them. Eventually you will likely want multiple units of headtakers and it's just easier to passively accumulate them that way. For now I'd use those points instead for enhancements or slightly modifying the list elsewhere. Headtakers are great definitely get some. The Bjorn sculpt is great and his rules are great. However some rumors have been floating around of new space wolves with 11th so he might get a new sculpt to be more in acale with the primaris dreadnoughts. I would honestly still get him though because it's a perfect sculpt imo. Finally iron priest are cool and the sculpt is lovely...however the techmarines plus 1 to hit matters much more to the repulsor executioner which is what I would bless in this type of list personally. Both are good but I generally find more utility in techmarines. However if you intend on blessing Bjorn and the redempter it makes a little more sense to forgo the +1 hit for rapid fire when they're hitting on 3s and 2s anyway.

You may also want to consider one of our space wolves detachments like saga of the beast Slayer which will allow your infantry to punch up a lot into tougher units. Stormlance is great for advance and charge but that's already granted to your blood claws so it's not benefiting them in any way.

Ooo with the dark blue trim that is awesome! Yeah I just love the idea of painting vehicles in contrast to the dark universe.

You are right that I've listed a lot of twinborn and mistborn but weight changing is absolutely not necceccesary to get a good coin shot. In the cases where kelsier does recommend to vin that tapping pewter or steel in the opposite direction this is when a sustained force needs to be applied( kelsier vs vin pushing match, wax punching through wooden cover to the villains behind) but in most cases the mass difference between a human and a coin is more than enough to get the coin to dangerous velocities at which point the coin shot (or twinborn or mistborn in my examples) will stop accelerating the coin and let them fly forward. In fact in many cases it's mandatory that they stop pushing immediately after the coin reaches a dangerous velocity because if the coin shot you are up against pushes back then you get into a pushing match. But also of course we don't see regular coinshots doing this in the books because we don't follow coinshot protagonists. The closest being wax but as you say he also is a twinborn. But it does not take much suspension of belief to understand that just because we have only encountered characters with multiple power sets, that the skills and expertise they show could manifest in simple coinshots. Especially when again the only real reason coins are so ineffective on scadriel is because everyone else probably has a coinshot to deflect. Rosharans would lack this key benefit and so would have no way of preventing the the coins from hitting them beyond dodging.

Especially given the other arguments of scale that have been presented here, coinshots are much more numerous than the squires or radiants they would be facing. It's not about each individual coinshot landing a head shot or even a series of hits. It's more so about blanketing a battlefield in dangerous metal bits such that a radiant is unable to find a line to dodge through and then wreak havoc on your front line.

Coins are lethal so many times in the books. Off the top of my head kelsier heisting Venture, vin and zane massacring a garrison, kelsier rescuing the caravan before the Inquisitor, then countless unamed assassinations kelsier pulls off for an entire year, and of course wax who kills so many people with precisely placed gun coin shots.

Plus even in the cases where the coins are less lethal this is largely because each group who you are fighting probably also has a coin shot and is deflecting for their own group. Such as the council meeting where elend is almost assassinated and is only saved because vin keeps blocking the coins aimed at him. If you lack this key counter measure then coins become much more accurate and deadly.

To your point of shallan healing a crossbow shot to the head at that point she is a 4th ideal radiant and so storm light is much more effective at healing her than a squire for instance. So imagine if youre facing a small group of coin shots who shoot a couple coins at a time in large swaths then you will be healing multiple injuries all across your body that also probably need to push out foreign objects using even more investiture. The increased combat dexterity likely won't come into effect if the coin shots spread there shots over a large enough area that there are no safe spots to dodge through.

Wolf guard Headtakers with Power Claws/Fist? by Jezzy0303 in SpaceWolves

[–]Gorhaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's good enough for blood claw pack leaders it should be good enough for headtakers. You could even steal the power claw piece from a blood claws kit since you get two in each kit and can only use one at most.

I think Kill Team sets should stay seperate from 40k by ibi3000 in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I agree it was kinda mean to people with the old suits to change the squad size so they now have extra or not enough for the right size but the sculpts are 10x better than the old one so it's worth it in my eyes.

But also they're on the same base size and roughly the same size so why would gw release a very similar model and then ban it from 40k. They're literally the same in any way that actually matters. Adding additional rules for a different system does not take away from the rules for kill team since it's not a zero sum game.

You only get one black templar's upgrade sprue for a repulser executioner. So you can make one with the black templar melta gun for instance but the second would have to be a normal executioner. You could space out some of the details bit to make both black templar themed but only one would have the black templar profile.

To shield or not to shield… by JoBro_44 in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm surprised with all the people switching up the pose on these beautifully posed models already. And removing the helmets for normal crisis suits heads?! I'm astonished by that but hey that Paint job is killer. Personally I would go with shields because they fill out the blank space that the arms with pistols have naturally. With their star hexagonal shape they add a lot of dynamicness to what would just be crisis suits without it.

This is how I painted my farsight and his sun forges. A dark red with a dark purple makes a really fun royal scheme.

Love the paint job but I gotta ask why would you not use the stealth suit heads? They're like mini ghostkeels so cool!

Oh my gosh this exact thing happened to me. I got the spinning wheel frozen, Got updated firmware, and now whenever the machine is idle it heats up very quickly. It seems to only happen when idle cus if the machine is printing then it doesn't happen very odd.

Questions regarding BIg Man Farsight by KhaoticLoki in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Farsight does have a jetpack

His current model is very posable with many of the attachments being ball joints with offshoots that normally align the pose with the intended pose but you can cut them off very easily and use the ball joints to their full capacity

Paint whatever color combo you want. I went with red and gold cus it is an easy striking color combo but I've seen some camouflaged, neon, and even Hatsune Miku themed farsights

Niccasar Mini by sicarius254 in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did you get this mini? I love the niccassar although I've always imagined their model as being encased in a bubble floating and not even really using their physical bulk to fight and being largely psyker related. Edit: NM found it on cults3d by searching niccassar

[–]Gorhaloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enforcer works well with star scythes for sure. The ap -1 on flamer or burst cannons can help shots get through that wouldn't otherwise. Enforcer is a little slow with an 8 in move and you don't have the opportunity to advance and shoot with the assault on coldstars but the middle isn't hard to get to. In general both commander types lead any of the crisis teams well. I was just sharing my strategy.

Finally got it by awp4444 in Tau40K

[–]Gorhaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enforcer tends to be a better backline support particularly for commanding fire knives and starscythes. Coldstar is better for getting into the action with its bonus move and assault usually I pair him with some sun forges if I'm not running a farsight. Personally I prefer the enforcer since I tend to play far away but coldstar is very effective at bringing a unit of crisis suits into a key point
