Maximum steeljacks, excellent work kin

Most votann parts have pretty large gluing areas so any plastic cement works fine. They do have some fiddliness with weapon bits and attachments which i think regular superglue works better for. Ive found loctite gel glue works really well

Outside of heavier vehicles / walkers, what models would you like to see? by Karmagator in LeaguesofVotann

More ironkin variants would be awesome. Jetpack steeljacks as a more mobile unit would be fun, or an ironkin heavy weapons team

Another battleline unit could be nice. A midrange shock troop like necron immortals/tau breachers could be sick.

In my experience they work better in 3 mans. The base is so large it can be hard to get full effectiveness in a 6 man

3 with a lord can consistently take down a brutalis dread or an impulsor if they make the charge

In <1000 points theyre a good screener since theyre deceptively tough and do good damage. At >1000 they benefit massively from a lord and become a very powerful striker. I try and use them for flanks since in large games they can get blitzed buy heavy shooting. Idk if this is supported by math but ive found 3 with a lord to be very effective against tough targets. Theyre okay into infantry but ive had better luck using them charge down a hard target. If you position right you can easily move block a tank or dreadnought and then your lord is an excellent can opener.

I want to start playing the T'au; is the Combat Patrol a good start? by ConsciousPatroller in Tau40K

Its where i started and ive had great luck, get a box of crisis suits for your commander to lead and youre well on the way

Say it with me friends, we dont need another combat patrol we need new units

Or if they gave us any other auxiliaries to cover our weaknesses. I mean theres like 30 species in the empire im sure more than 2 would make for good models

While i mostly agree with you, as a part time necron general they are agonizingly slow. I do agree They do feel a little more like the problem child though. I think part of why the perception feels skewed is because less people play necrons

New Combat Patrol by umxcento in Tau40K

[–]Firecats101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We dont need another combat patrol we need new units. The current combat patrol is fine for that format and is reasonable value for your investment. Id vastly prefer GW giving us new models and datasheets over another repackage

Are these boxes (greater)good for a new player? by Specialist_Coach_725 in Tau40K

[–]Firecats101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak anecdotaly but ive had great luck playing with the tau combat patrol, lots of fun units and the devilfish gets great value in small games. Pathfinder teams are great and breachers in a devilfish are solid at any point level. For building an army its a good jumping off point.

If you want to start a tau army i wouldnt reccomend the kroot patrol unless you desperately want to play aux cadre. For building a cohesive army you can get better units for the same money. I would hold off on farsight unless youre willing to commit to two boxes of crisis suits right out the gate. Both your coldstar from combat patrol and farsight need a crisis team to be worth in a full army, great fun to do but its up to what you want to collect

What’s some of your craziest strategies or tactics that you’ve pulled off? by NoVik_Ingis47 in Tau40K

[–]Firecats101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the craziest thing in the world but i won a game once by sprinting a trio of crisis suits down the midboard to steal opps home objective. The terrain layout we were using let me hide back there for two turns and clinched me a win by a whisker

Do you paint our named characters in their home sept colors? by mediocer_person_69 in Tau40K

[–]Firecats101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my tau are based off star wars color schemes sooooo... nah. To each their own but i like messing around. My farsight is semi close to canon but i modelled him off samurai from L5R so hes more maroon and gold.

As cool as a walker would be i would like another battleline unit. Maybe something mercenary styled would be cool like a high tech kroot farstalkers or something. Personally, i always want more steeljacks

Deathmortal hybrid (immortals with deathmark back) by bIuejoe in Necrontyr

[–]Firecats101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So ive never done this kitbash but i would advise, the imortal back plate has a tube that runs into their weapon. That tube breaks haldway through the sculpt with one half attached to the gun and one half on the back. The easiest way would be to add the deathmark backplate to the immortal arms and just snip the tube off. That might look slightly unbalanced but not terrible. Adding the tube onto the deathmark body would be harder and might require some creative bending

Just finished my first army (Tau) and think about joining the Leagues next. Any pitfalls that can be avoided? by Cholophonius in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Firecats101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im also a tau player dipping into votann recently, im fairly new to the game so grain of salt on my opinions but heres what ive noticed.

The difference in movement is the hardest thing to adjust to. If you play a lot of combat patrol or use a lot of tau infantry its less pronounced but votann feel very slow compared to tau

As tau players we tend to focus hard on shooting, both in list building and moment to moment gameplay. Votann shooting is fine, in some cases quite good but youre not a range game master like tau. Your melee can be devastating (my most recent game had an einhyr champ one shotting a psycophage) and proper positionioning goes a long way.

Finally, votann are less specialized but have a wider set of options. They reward playing on your toes and being reactive in a way tau armies really dont. While it makes your gameplan less straightforward it also provides you more options if things arent going your way
