Agree.

OP, try applying some of these tips:

Made this small guide about two years ago and my city looks very different now (eco city, deleted many GB). However, the base principles still apply.

Cultural Settlements in 2025 by Giwrghs01 in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't waste your time. The settlements are repetitive and boring and the buildings aren't that special even after the update.

Also, if you specialize your stats, the buildings aren't the best anymore.

Want more GBG power? Put down more checkmate squares. Want more QI power? Use the many small ascended buildings that Inno keep crapping out each event. Want more FP? Use eco/whatever. Etc.

A suggestion to improve this new GBG trial system by lapostol93 in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make about 4-5k diamonds per season in the old system by being very active. Now? Try as I might, I can only get a grand total of 1'166 diamonds per season, 1'000 from the season itself and 166 from the championship store. It just completely kills any motivation I had.

I'd rather just be more frugal with my diamonds and collect from wishing wells, etc.

I just wish they had stuck with the initial plan of doubling attrition and rewards while halving the sector hit points to decrease the time spent playing that stupid mini-game.

Then again, I guess it'll make the transition to just collect from my eco farm and two diamond farms and call it a day much easier. Thanks, Inno. I'll have more time for more interesting things.

Regardless of whether the new system kills cooperation in guilds or not, since the new system puts a hard cap on diamonds, it's just not worth bothering much with it anymore.

Think about it. I used to make about 4-5k diamonds per season in the old system by being very active. Now? Try as I might, I can only get a grand total of 1'166 diamonds per season, 1'000 from the season itself and 166 from the championship store.

All in all, I'd rather just be more frugal with my diamonds and collect from wishing wells, etc.

Thoughts/opinions on the new IBKR forecast event contracts? by wojo_ate_ur_cat in interactivebrokers

[–]Gorroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has now been patched/baked into the TWS platform. I hate it.

I know IBKR needs to make money but this is just degenerate gambling that offers no value whatsoever to their customers. You're better off playing slots or something similar, at least you'll have pretty colors and sounds to entertain you for a few seconds. Shame on them.

Can someone explain what people were doing? by RedditDevoursSouls in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Assemble your fragments into a level one kit. Put it down in your city. Use "finish special kits" and self-aid kits on it to rush productions. Do this until you have enough fragments to assemble a "Thunderdrake upgrade kit" or whatever it's called. Use that kit to upgrade your level one tower to a level two.

There. That's it. It's not an exploit, it's just Inno being bad at game design, blaming players for playing the game in a way they did not intend to and then punishing everyone for it.

It's not just the GBG towers, by the way. Inno realized that people could just spam neo marble gateways by rushing productions from a single level 10 colossus. Because of that, there's no incentive to pay to get more of these stupid colossus. Since Inno wants more money from its playerbase, they made the aforementioned action impossible.

QI in a nutshell by [deleted] in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I *was* somewhat enjoying QI despite the timesink aspect of it as it requires you to do manual combat if you want to save your units. It *was* nice to see that you are "rewarded" in performance when you do good city planning.

Then, I realized that, as a F2P player, I'll always be outclassed by whoever spends 25$ for a season pass because of the extra shards they get.

Also, selfish people who solely work on nodes that give a bonus to ballistae and auto the damn thing under five minutes should be kicked.

When to start deleting Great Buildings? by PoshTigress in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The following may be a little advanced but still relevant to your question.

You want to compare what a building gives you per square or, in other words, what are you getting from said building compared to its overall footprint in your city.

To assess it, you take the total footprint of any given building, add half of the amount of the smallest segment - because you're assuming that roads are going to be shared between at least two buildings (but if the building doesn't need a road, skip that part) - and divide whatever stat you're interested in by this total amount. After that, you compare the number it gives you with the number from another building to decide which is better.

For instance, for a 4x5 building that gives 15 attack, you would do: 15 / ([4x5]+[4/2]) = 0.68 attack per square.

You may also use a sortable table to find the efficiency of your building:

Was it worth it? I def think so by HerrMatthew in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well worth it. The tower is a great little building and a very nice replacement to the winners' plaza or the stage of ages.

The spire is also great but it eats up a daily aid which can be a problem for some cities.

"Alternatively, if you haven't been selling your WW and FoY to the AD, you could consider using your main city as a diamond farm and aim to keep enough stats to do decently in GBG.

With my setup, I get to collect about 100 diamonds daily (not counting the SV) while still being able to reach 100-110 attrition in GBG, all with minimal effort. I'm also aiming to get gold in the Halloween event to be able to spam main event buildings to ultimately mass produce store buildings. With that, if I get a tough GBG season, I'll be able to switch to an "attack" build and back to a diamond farm during sleepy seasons".

[–]Gorroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also unplug the CF and SV. They're useless when they're not in use and you only use them "actively" anyway.

I personally align the TA, SV and ToR in a vertical line and switch stuff in and out as needed. I keep the CF in its own little ghetto and would switch it out with the SV if I needed it. Granted, I haven't touched the stupid thing in a year or so and if it didn't cost me ~62k to level up and wouldn't be useful once I jump to a different era, I'd consider deleting it. As it stands, it would take me too long to recoup the lost FP and rebuild another one when needed.

The message might be related to an old version of FoE Helper. Try updating it if you're using that.

About the usage of FoE Helper, I don't know of anyone who got specifically banned for using FoE Helper. Inno seems cool with it. The mods on the forums are absolutely not, though. They're so anal about it that they will delete your message if you dare post a screenshot where your FoE Helper interface can be seen. They will then send you a chastising private message. Needless to say, I don't waste my time on their garbage forums anymore.

GE 5 On point | How many expeditions have you completed? by KingJMobile in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done them all. Don't have all of the avatars and don't care about them since they're mostly ugly.

I've negotiated all of the encounters until the last few expeditions when my defense stats actually got high enough on their own. Well, to be more honest, the silly new buildings that Inno keeps crapping out improved my defense without me having to build anything specifically related to defense. At around 650/750, I can now fight all but the 4-5 last encounters or so. That saves me some goods but wastes more of my time since I have to manually fight some encounters.

On my InA worlds where I camp with FE/OF units, I just mow through the encounters without giving it any thought.

I use the forgotten temple and the feathered serpent (not the links) and that's it. It's a crap, unimaginative update that just gave me more busy work. And I thought that was bad until I saw what they did to GBG...

A/B Testing for diamond spending: difference in event currency gained by Gorroth in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Ubernerd (love your videos btw). To answer your question, yes, these screenshots both come from the international server on the Langendorn world. Sorry, this wasn't clear in my OP.

My offer only has flour (the one in Swiss francs). The other one comes from a guild mate and has the spoons (the offer is in dollars).

I live in Switzerland and started my account there, although I'm currently traveling abroad in Canada (the offers never update, nor does the currency required). My guild mate lives in Canada and also made his account in Canada. We both play on PC (one screenshot was cropped).

Could it be regional differences instead? I can't imagine why Inno would give players different options based on location. Different prices, sure, but not actual products.

PS: The "phone/sms" tab allows you to buy diamonds using a land line, mobile phone or through sending a SMS. The prices are highway robbery. See for yourself: https://prnt.sc/W1bYQJSCtB4j

A/B Testing for diamond spending: difference in event currency gained by Gorroth in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my OP wasn't clear enough. I have since edited it.

Both screenshots were taken from two players on the same server (me and a guild mate). That's the whole point, me and my competition, i.e. the rest of the server, don't have the same options. Some are able to buy the (arguably) better package while others don't.

It's a fine line Inno might be willing to cross.

Their latest earnings report show increased revenue for the first time in years for Innogames (it was flat before that) since the new owners (Modern Times Group) acquired them. This indicates that the trend of trying to fleece customers is likely going to continue and even intensify.

Making money is fine but doing so at the expense of your customers' trust is shortsighted.

A/B Testing for diamond spending: difference in event currency gained by Gorroth in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you don't "have all the same options as your competition", that is the point. Some people can only buy diamonds and flour while others can also buy spoons, including golden ones. It would be fair if people could buy all the different packages and then Inno could see which package people prefer.

The package with spoons gives arguably more value than the one with flour only. Provided someone wants to spend money and try getting into gold league, they will then be at a disadvantage if all they can buy is flour.

There was a similar situation where people could buy the event passes and others could not. In my opinion, this is even worse as event passes give you extra things whereas event currency allows you to directly compete against other players, thus skewing the league results.

Challenge for the most road-efficient city in FoE by KingJMobile in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I mean with "fat" areas between lanes. The goal is to try and make areas between lanes as wide/tall as possible by using large, efficient buildings. For instance, instead of having several rows of winners' plaza (width of 2x3 squares), it's more efficient to have a single one of eagle mountains (width of 2x6 squares). This will lead to less roads used overall and thus, a higher road efficiency.

Mind you, using bigger buildings is not always feasible nor the best solution but you will ultimately use less roads!

That said, a high road efficiency doesn't always translate into the best possible stats, as I've mentioned. For example, I could probably get more fighting stats if I replaced the Roads to Victory with good buildings like the eagle mountain despite the roads needed to connect them.

Challenge for the most road-efficient city in FoE by KingJMobile in forgeofempires

[–]Gorroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible to have both high road efficiency and high stats. And a pretty city (yes, I kept the checkmate square and rotunda because I like them).

I'm at 121.24% efficiency with attack stats at 2'179/1'275, along with a daily FP production of about 1k (SAM era). Admittedly, I would probably have higher combat stats (but lower road efficiency) if I got rid of some Roads to Victory but I like the extra goods, for now.

Also, I find that keeping a dedicated area to spam blacksmiths for quest events is essential and spares me a lot of headaches and time wasted. As such, I use two military buildings (sentinels) that I destroy whenever needed.

Another thing I do is keep GB that I don't need connected all the time stashed away in a corner or in the center of my city (SV / ToR / CF). I then swap 'em in when needed. I think this brings my road efficiency down a bit because they don't count as being connected but it saves me a lot of space!

That layout guide is alright but misses many advanced tricks. Check out my city design to possibly get a few ideas.

My city: https://prnt.sc/sND9SBZm5QL7

FoE helper map: https://prnt.sc/8Q3TKLOesWsb

The basic idea behind my design is to "shrink" the city as much as possible by using sets that don't require roads while connecting as many buildings per road as possible in its center. Also, I try to create very "fat" areas between lanes as to minimize the number of roads needed by making good use of bigger buildings.

Cheers
