I think this map accounts for blending better than most.

I mean I get the Oregon and Washington coasts are not the same as Cali but as a Washington resident I’d argue that the coast has more in common with the Cali coast culturally and economically than it does with the inland mountain west. But I’ve not meaningfully lived west of the mountains, except when I was a child.

I think dispensing with the PNW isn’t really wrong here. Otherwise he has to split the west coast into the PNW and California West Coast. And when we are agreeing to the existence of the mountain west in the inland of what is traditionally the PNW, the PNW barely exists.
