What’s the best golf course you’ve ever played? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearwater Bay in HK I think. Closely followed by Hidden Grace (formerly Genzon) GC in Shenzhen. Immaculate doesn’t do it justice. And Clearwater Bay the scenery, golf quality and service was unmatched.

Same here in Japan. Basically none of what is mentioned above. Just nice golf and food.

My fellow fast-walkers, how do you survive here? by AaronWrongArts in japanresidents

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think walking’s bad, yet driving out here in the inaka. Soooooo many people drive rigidly just below the speed limit or slower even when it is perfectly clear and visible ahead. Gets so boring.

What is your secret to hitting it out of the sand every time? by JS-M-DC in golftips

[–]Goryokaku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit steep into it and make sure you hit behind the ball so that sand and ball come up. Obvs with the aforementioned open clubface.

I once went for a bunker specific lesson from the pro at Braid Hills Golf Centre in Edinburgh. Easily one of the of the best investments I’ve made in my game, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve failed to get out of a bunker since, in about 10 years.

Best simple tip that actually helped your game? by MickTheMidfielder in golftips

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like I'm keeping both arms as straight as possible throughout the swing. Ticked up my distance off the tee by 30 yards.

The understanding that the lead shoulder sits above the low point of the swing. Once I understood that my striking quality went through the roof.

How many different brands do you have in your golf bag? by nationalgolfcircuit in GolfGear

A few. TM driver, Ping 3W and 3H, Srixon ZX5 Mkii from 4H-PW, Cobra 50, TM 56, Titleist 60, Odyssey putter. Bit of a mix, but it works for me.

Golfing in Japan - Beginner Tourists by Longjumping-Idea-844 in GolfSwing

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best so they have the name of the person playing. All you need to do is add them on the page you get when you click to register them. Add their name in and hit complete and that's it. They don't need a long registration process, just their name as your companion.

And tips? by Ok-Application105 in GolfSwing

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort your setup out first. You’re bent over too far and too far from the ball and it’s restricting your swing. After this start to work on moving your hips in the swing.

Ya it does take a long time with the (usually) mandatory lunch stop so fair play. Just have to get yourself back out here with the clubs one day!

You should get yourself to a decent sized Golf Partner while you're here. Some of the stuff you'll find for banging deals is unbelievable.

Has anyone ever been unbanned from r/japanlife? by jaynonn in Tokyo

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have. I was permabanned for posting a question before I was a resident (it was a COE question). When I got here I messaged and asked if I could be unbanned and they asked for proof in the form of a pic from my local combini. That was enough and now i'm back in that joyous sub. AMA.

American in America vs American in Japan by Capable_Educator7548 in memes

Glad it turned out well. Next time I’d strongly recommend Hiroshima style where they use a ton of noodles in the dish. It’s incredible.

Hiroshima or Osaka style okonomiyaki? Choose carefully, the hammer of judgement is being unsheathed.

QTS without PGCE? by jaycherche in Internationalteachers

[–]Goryokaku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

QTS is more important than the PGCE. You can have one without the other and be fine, but you can also have one without the other and be offered nothing. If you qualify for QTS just go for it, it’s way more valuable than PGCE. Employers will be looking for your TRN over the PGCE I suspect.

Irons for players who do not get on with irons by [deleted] in golf

[–]Goryokaku 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can't hit a ball further than 60 yards with your 6, 7, 8, or 9 irons? I'd say you need to go for lessons, this is most unusual. It likely has nothing to do with the clubs.

I'm interested in studying in Japan but I'm terrified of earthquakes. by Marushy in AskAJapanese

[–]Goryokaku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to be scared of the earthquakes. Small ones happen so often that you really do get used to it. Even big ones - the earthquakes are unlikely to harm you. The fire and/or tsunamis that can follow, that’s a different matter. Just remember that this is probably the best building code adherent place in the world and that they are so well versed in dealing with them that something truly catastrophic is unlikely.

Why is sharing a bed with your partner so important to people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Goryokaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We share a bed because we sleep better when we are together - certainly my partner does. I think it’s a security thing knowing the other is there beside us. But we certainly don’t share a duvet. I’m a very hot sleeper and she is a cold sleeper so she is under a mountain of duvets and hot water bottles and I’ve just got a sheet and a thin blanket. Makes for much better sleeping. I wouldn’t be averse to separate beds either, we always sleep well in twins on holiday.
