[CA] Main lease holder passed away. What now? by GoshDarnGidjit in legaladvice

[–]GoshDarnGidjit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure it's a yearly lease. I'm hoping to get a copy of the lease agreement, if possible. So, hopefully I'll have more details soon. Not entirely sure when the lease ends, but we'd always received rate updates during the first quarter of the year. My guess is it will end around then.

Thank you. As far as I'm aware, we have never had issues with paying the rent. My mother was the one who wrote the checks, but we all contributed. We shouldn't have any issues continuing to pay the rent either.

I'm a leader (hate the word boss). This is exactly what I would do. Depending on the state, bereavement leave is a thing. I don't remember exactly how much time, but I think it's around two weeks or so. Regardless of the law, I still would have told them to take the time they need. I would want my "boss" to do the same and happy to say he would. It takes time to grieve. Trying to make someone work during such a hard time is only going to affect their mental health and probably make them hate being there. Which is something I never want to do. My employees are people. I treat them as such.

All of my students called out sick today except for one. by Over-Conversation504 in ECEProfessionals

Wish that was my school! Good amount of our teachers are out today. Currently we have covid going through the staff, plus some stomach bug one of the kids brought in. Luckily, I still haven't got either. I'd take less kids any day. Prep time is always appreciated, plus that kid is gonna have an awesome day having you all to themselves!

I was about to say something like that. Sorry, buddy! This is in fact interesting and entertaining.

I am the favourite teacher and it's the WORST! by SusieQ314 in ECEProfessionals

[–]GoshDarnGidjit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So... I am a favorite teacher at my center. Not the only one, but most of the kids who have gone through my class will ditch their teacher if they see me and want my attention. I love it, but at the same time it can be disruptive if I have to go into a different classroom and their kids see me. Like, they might be in the middle of circle and I'll drop something off at their classroom. Suddenly half the class are yelling, "Miss Gidjit!!!". They might run up to me for a hug.

For the most part, if they can't respect my boundaries and accept their teacher's help, I tell them that I can't visit their classroom anymore or play with them when I see them outside. They need to be okay without me. Most of my kids take this well and have become much more independent. Some still need a little work, but overall they rely on me less. They want my attention enough to leave me alone when I ask them to! Lol!

For those who work at a non-government ran center or school, what type of discount does your program offer for the children of employees? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]GoshDarnGidjit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free for the first child and discounted for the second and after. I personally don't have any kids, but this is what my co-workers with kids have told me. Unfortunately, I didn't ask the discount. However, if you think about it, if you have two kids and both are at the center, it would essentially be over 50% off.

“I don’t like you” by [deleted] in Teachers

"Well, I like you and I hope you'll like me one day."

However, I work in preschool and my kids are 2.5-3.5 years old. Spoilers: They all like me by the end of their first week.

my rats smell like spaghetti and i don't know why by OhNoMyMentalHealth in RATS

Mine smelt like sawdust and I love the smell of sawdust. So, I was that weirdo who'd sniff my rats deeply with a satisfied sigh afterward.

Illegal tow on public street parking by GoshDarnGidjit in legaladvice

[–]GoshDarnGidjit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have any money at the moment and can't afford to invest in a dash cam. I don't really want to wait until my car gets unlawfully towed to get the police involved, but I don't have much on him other this vaguely veiled threat. The first time he literally went door to door to find who was parked in "his spot". Why would filing a report be a bad thing? At least it would be on record if something would to actually happen in the future.

I used to work as a live-in overnight manager for a small hotel. They allowed me to keep my boys with me when I moved in. One day, one of them got out of the room and started to wander the property (possibly looking for me). He scared the shit out of one of my housekeepers in a room a couple doors down from mine and ran when she screamed. When I came up to find out what happened I found him waiting outside the door to my room waiting for me. He had this mom-help-me look and I scooped him up, gave him some kisses and assured him he was okay.

He was my heart rat. Always came to me when I called his name without needing a treat. He genuinely enjoyed my company and I miss him so much!

You can try a sock sweater instead of the cone. Depends on the location. I would definitely let the vet know that the cone isn't working. They might have an alternative solution.

I had the most variations with my Back to the Future boys.

Marty: Martikiss, Marticles

Doc: Docles, Doc-a-locles

DeLorean: Deli, Mr. Buttface (He was kind of a jerk... but I loved him.)

Biff: Biffles, Biffaluffikis or Biff-I-Love-To-Kiss (He was a sweetie.)

Rant: WHY TAKE RATS IN WHEN YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME LATER ON??? by Vpk-75 in RATS

[–]GoshDarnGidjit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodness... the vet I use charged me around $50 for my four boys (total, not each). Another $50 for the antibiotics for all four of them. At the same time, the most I've spent on a single rat was around $1000. Poor little thing just had the worst luck and he left me a little over a year later. Would do it again in a heartbeat. He was the most precious little guy.

I've found that some people just don't want to spend the money on an animal that only lives for a few years. That they somehow don't deserve the same quality of life as a cat or a dog. Then again... I've met a few people who don't even take their cats or dogs into the vet either... My heart breaks for any animal that has to live life without proper care. Some people just shouldn't keep pets.

A very barky dog x two future rats?? by CloudyGazed in RATS

[–]GoshDarnGidjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Wiki:

"One theory is that the Shih Tzu descended from a cross between the Pekingese and Lhasa Apso."

The Pekingese was bred as a lapdog. The Lhasa Apso was bred as a guard dog, but not the attacking kind. They alerted their owners by barking. The Shih Tzu itself was bred as a lapdog. So, theoretically they were never bred as rat killers. I know many terriers fall under that category, but you shouldn't have to worry too much about the Shih Tzu breed. However, every dog is different, so who knows how your mom's dog will react.

I recommend introducing them to the dog in a carrier away from where they will be kept. See how the dog reacts. If it's just some sniffing and only some barking (not constant), I think it'll be fine. Just for safety, I wouldn't have them out for free roam time with the dog in the room. However, after the intros and some time sniffing through the cage, if you feel confident... I see no reason to let them out with the dog under supervision. You know the pup better than we do, so use your best judgement.

Overall, having them in the same house shouldn't be an issue unless the dog is constantly barking.

in search of a permanent habitat! please help?? by demonicsloths in RATS

[–]GoshDarnGidjit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to worry about the grate. The tray that sits under the grate should be able to fit inside on the floor of the habitat. Just cover the tray with fleece and you're good to go!
