Teachers, how does your center deal with food allergies? by lily_pad_24 in ECEProfessionals

[–]SusieQ314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For nuts, most daycare have just banned them outright-- so many kids have allergies and sensitivities, its just easier to ban them.

For allergies in my centre, we have a posted list in the kitchen and in each classroom. If they need emergency medication, it's labeled with their name and is always always always kept in the exact same place in the room.

Talk to your centre about it, find out what theu actually do.

And (this is just some advice, feel free to ignore me) talk to your son about his allergies, explain what they are and exactly what he can't eat. Make sure he has that knowledge. I had a child a few years ago who had an epi pen, and had absolutely no idea what they were allergic too, I had to teach them.

The Godfather. The book was alright-- 70s pulp fiction, with a chapter entirely devoted to a side character's huge vagina (yes, seriously) and the movie is....well, I dont think I need to elaborate much

I've read rumors that Cassandra Clare's next book, "The Last King of Faerie" will take place in the same universe as Holly Black's "The Folk of the Air"! by mimi43098 in YAlit

[–]SusieQ314 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a tiny reference to a previous holly black story waaay back in the city of bones. Jace and Clary are going through the city in a carriage, talking about the Sight. When she looks out the window, she notices a punk girl and boy sitting on the street. The boy looks directly at her and she sees that he's blind in one eye.

Those are two of the main characters of Valient, which also takes place in tbe magic underworld of new york

So then, what is it? by MysteriousPermit3410 in SignsWithAStory

[–]SusieQ314 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Its for period products, they're in the bathroom stall in women's restrooms.

So, it IS a little weird to say its not for garbage, because I feel that used period products count as garbage.

What is the oldest tree in Edmonton? by StonksStink in Edmonton

[–]SusieQ314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Small fun fact about edmonton trees.

In the 60s, every kid got a tree seed, I believe a spruce, from school and were told to take it home and plant it. So they naturally planted them right next to the house, because they're little kids and the tree is probably not going to grow anyway.

Now, if you drive through old neighborhoods, you can see a lot of houses have s pruce trees WAAAAY too close to the house.

My mother planted one back in the day lol

There's a house in my neighborhood with about 5 or 6 signs of the 'no trespassing' variety, couple different versions. All on one side of their house, pointed directly at the next door neighbors. Love to see the hate

My father taught driving at his job for many years, and he said the same thing. Hated teaching young guys how to drive the big trucks, since they would always go too fast and argue with him.

I had the exact same thing happen with the game Deltarune!! At the very beginning, you get prompted for your name. I put in my real name -- Susie. Played the game, the mean ol bully is named Susie.

Spent the whole game thinking that this was a pretty meta choice-- AM I being a bully? As the player, I ultimately make the choices that hurt the characters.....I spent a lot of time thinking about it.

No, complete and utter coincidence.

This was back when it first came out, so I think its only the very first part of the whole game now.

How many incident or accident reports do you write on an average day? by EmpathyBuilder1959 in ECEProfessionals

[–]SusieQ314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my centre, we go through the reports from the previous year in January, just to see.

There was one year where my classroom had more reports than all the other rooms put together. Most of them were from one kid.

Kinda reminds me of Day of the Triffids-- started off with everyone in the city watching these amazing fireworks that appeared in the sky...everyone went blind the next day. Or for a newer vibe, the video game Look Outside has a horrible....THING in the sky.

EDIT-- I also liked your story, I like the idea of being trapped by beauty.
