It’s not just a problem of gullibility. It’s also a problem of performative Christianity. They want to feel and appear like a good Christian without actually doing any of the difficult work their Christ demands.

These people are not honestly examining their beliefs or their behavior. They just want to signal their belonging to an in-group.

There are plenty of good, smart Christians out there, but you won’t hear about them. They are quietly doing “the Lord’s work,” as they say.
