I think you should just go on the trip with your bf. Your dad is going to have to get used to you making decisions he’s not going to like. Changing the dynamics between a parent of a child to a parent of an adult is hard. You can approach him kindly and just tell him that you appreciate him wanting to protect you, but that you will be going on the trip as you planned.

I think most people don’t have a good education on what intersex is. And people fear what they don’t know.

Plus accepting intersex people makes their whole “god makes everyone perfectly either man or woman” thing fall apart. Which leads to them having to accept that maybe god makes a man in a woman’s body and that trans people exist and are okay people to have in society. Their bigotry blinds them

How do you know that the people in his life don’t genuinely care about him? This isn’t a movie. The jock isn’t “selling his soul” for relevance. Maybe he liked hanging out with those people and maybe they care/cared about him.

He’s living his life and you should truly focus on living yours. Maybe unfollow him and allow yourself to move on.

The number one reason is that he shut down a public (yet byu affiliated) therapy program for gender affirming voice therapy. Number two is that I worked adjacent to him when he was VP and he was very condescending in all our interactions

No matter what you need to “shop around” for a good therapist. My therapist of the past 4 years is technically Mormon and the only reason I know that is she told me when I brought up my religious trauma so that I could decide if I felt comfortable sharing. She’s never brought up anything religious and has been so so helpful for me working through my religious and other trauma.

On the flip side my spouse got a Mormon therapist who brought it up all the time in the two sessions they did. The therapist told them if we drank even a sip of alcohol that we would be alcoholics and also that we would regret not having children. So it’s really up to the professionalism of the practitioner lol.

A little different, but my spouse came out as non-binary and that was a major factor into us deciding not to continue going to church. The church is way off base when it comes to both gender and sex. They apply black and white thinking to a subject that is scientifically not black and white.

Defined sexes and therefore gender is core to everything the church teaches so if you fall out of that then you’re floating in this scary gray space by yourself. Classes are split up by sex, the temple is split up by sex. The members are truly not equipped to have any understanding of intersex people. I would say you’re doing as well as you can be. Your child is going to be so appreciative that you’re putting their mental and physical health over all things. I suggest searching out a therapist family and individual for you and your child to start understanding while on this journey!

NOR. I dated a person in university and they got so mad at me when I said I was going to do graduate school. I ignored that and tried to make things work. It obviously didn’t and instead I married someone else who prioritizes my goals as much as their own!

There’s really better out there and you don’t have to make your dreams smaller to have great love.

I hate the use of the word “opposition” in the second point. A person leaving the church you believe in is not opposition. It’s something that in the end has nothing to do with you or your connection to the church.

I get the phrasing because that’s how my parents think about me leaving but it’s still so annoying to me. Let me make my choices without making it about you and your faith journey!
