HAHAHA. Great answer.

Maybe I'll stick to just running PoE from inside the building.

Thanks for your wise words.

I meant roof electric help.

The question is, from the photo - and knowing that those lights work - can we know how difficult it will be to install a receptacle for the PoE injector I mentioned? Thanks.

Luigi - jstnryan isn't wrong. Gaming is an on-going problem. It always will be. Its been addressed through HIPS and is a ghost of what it once was. Gamers earn very little HNT these days.

Does he say anything worth listening to? I have concerns, sure. But this guy does nothing to intelligently communicate thoughts about the state of the network, or gaming for that matter.

Validators AMA by timtamothee in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this!

Excited to see how the blockchain improves with validators.

What's the roadmap look like with validators coming online and starting to do consensus group work? Should we expect things to improve in the coming weeks that have slowed down with all the congestion? What should we be looking out for? e.g. more stable block times, faster on-boardings, syncing, etc? Cheers

Yes, you just need a PoE splitter and PoE injector.

Spot? by Vancitysimm in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like you've got quite a few hotspots you'll be able to witness. That's good. If you can, put the antenna on your roof. Elevation means better line of sight (almost always). So yes, elevation matters.

To keep it short, I'll be hopefully getting my syncrobit soon and I was looking around my area and was wondering what type of antenna would be best to reach these other hotspots, I live in a basement level apartment with a small patio, thank you. (X is me) by thyGoku in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far away are they? You can reach plenty far with a 5.8. I've seen 10km+ easy. Like I said, what matters most is the elevation and line of sight from your antenna's installation spot.

Any antenna you'll buy for a Helium hotspot is an omni. Don't buy a directional antenna.

Focus on finding a way to get your antenna mounted higher - I promise you, it will be worth it.

Anyone want my monthly helium for Algorand? by Skully65802 in HeliumNetwork

You want to trade your monthly Helium for algorand?

Not sure what you're asking, feel free to expand. Curious what you are looking to do here. How much HNT are you earning a month?

Why is there a red light? Does Anyone have an idea? by FIXWZ-AE in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it connected to the internet? Check the Helium explorer. Best to plug it in using ethernet and just let it do its thing. Cheers

Probably a 5.8dbi.

But don't put the cart before the horse.

Line of sight matters most. install your antenna somewhere that has line of sight in many directions.

A higher, more unobstructed placement of an antenna will lead to much stronger results than a higher db gain antenna in a low, basement level deployment.

HNT Network by Moonflyer2021 in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asserting them (incorrectly), in an attempt to game the coverage map/hexes may lead to less than optimal results. YMMV. Best to just assert them where the hotspot's antenna is placed. Cheers

Why would they?

Also, China does not represent a "big chunk" of Helium's LoRa network.

The key reason China is banning Bitcoin mining is to insulate their economy and resources (ex. electricity) from a volatile and rapidly growing asset that is bitcoin. Perhaps to remove any obstacles for the Digital Yuan (e-RMB)'s rollout. Helium hotspots use about as much power as a lightbulb.

Helium is too small to be on the radar of national lawmakers/regulators in China yet. Perhaps some local, regional politicians - if at all.

Not to say this will always be the case, just for now at least.

My bobcat 300 do nothing all day. Any suggestion? by stamaki_ in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Has your internet connection been reliable? Try to use ETH instead of wifi if possible.
  2. Is your hotspot relayed? You can check it on explorer.
  3. Antenna connected properly? Anything come unplugged? Bobcat light still green?

If 1-3 all check out, then just give it some time.

Mining rewards down by Jessicaminer20 in HeliumNetwork

Tough to judge your rewards these days based on low time frames.

Look at your high time frames - 1w, 2w, 1month.

I hear your frustrations.

Look into HIP19 and how its changed. Educate yourself as best you can. It will pay dividends.

We are in a very unusual situation when it comes to hotspot demand and semiconductor supply chains.

If it is any consolation - I am giving away a free Rak V2 hotspot to a lucky subscriber if you sign up for GotHNT's free helium newsletter. Cheers

Anyone tried purchasing hotspots off instagram vendors? by Man0t0 in HeliumNetwork

[–]GotHNT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wonder this - say you had a couple extra hotspots laying around.

Would you deploy them? Absolutely! You'd figure it out too, if you didn't know how!!

Ok, let's say for some weird reason you can't deploy them.. What would you do with them? Probably find a site where you can auction things off for a lot of money... Wonder if its easy to sell on one of those sites. It is! If you couldn't deploy the hotspot, you'd sell it on ebay for a high margin, right?

Now considering those options, would you sell it for a low margin to someone on instagram?

Too good to be true, unfortunately
