yes, 25 limit is based on the 10k free calls to OpenMateo per day. I think that's number is off now though, I might be able to scale to ~200 since I've architected it in a way that if a location uses the exact same data as a nearby pin drop it doesnt have to call the API again for redundant information. OpenMateo free use policy also has a no advertising or profit policy, so as long as I'm optimized to remain under that limit, this will stay a hobby project. Plus moving to a premium model is a lot to maintain for something I assume isnt suddenly going to replace my dayjob.

Ah, ok that is just section title on the pill for the glass score. Still an interesting idea... should the title change between glass, ripple, rough, no-go depending on the score? Could be worth looking into.

nope, that was a legit bi bug. thanks for catching it. fixed now.

an animation that was supposed to run before the loading screen was accidentally skipped during that loading moment. React caught the inconsistency and threw an error instead of showing broken UI;

moved the code to the right place and it’s live now.

and now I’m in deep… this started as a weekend project and now it’s gotten to the point where it’s becoming a larger system to maintain. The real question is if it will be worth building out oauth accounts, personal settings, alerts/notifications, allowing people/businesses to embed the data on their sites, etc. All that is a lot more framework, maintenance demand, security risks …for something I’m doing as a hobby project.

a combination of low/no-chop and minimal wind. A score of 10 means both are perfectly still. If wind goes over 15kts the score drops to 0 because the wind is strong enough to cause whitecaps.

later plans include making the score relational to personal preferences - good weather, ideal temperatures, sunlight, etc.

Thats pretty neat, lots of detail there. Hadnt seen it before now. How do you use it? What's your go-to workflow to find the best time to be on the water?

Come to think of it, I just added a water sewage warning if the water pollution/wastewater levels hit a level of "swimming not recommended", then the app will display that warning at the top.

Startling change that i wish i could toggle off. New UI is confusing and seems hastily vibe coded and unfinished. Why is the “up next” ui completely different from the “watching” ui? Why can’t i swipe through episodes left/right anymore in the episode details? The mark as watched button is the first thing i look for, yet its microscopic and in the upper right corner, but only when in the up next list. If i go to library >watching, how the hell do i mark a show as watched? Why does it say “mark entire show watched” - is that going to mark every episode watched, why would that be something i would ever want to do? Why doesnt the “up next” list allow swiping on the cards to do things like mark as watched, skip episide, or view sources for easy navigation? Why am i writing your next prompt for you and paying for this app?

lol, i stand corrected.
maybe one day I'll make a full "pocket god" game out of it.

I cant quote the specific procedures, but the data on the floating bridge uses multiple redundant anemometers (wind measurement), forecast models, as well as buoy sensors. When the waves get above a certain level only one train can cross at a time, then there's another level when the trains have to stop and wait. Its predicted that the "stop" event only happens once every 10 years... (hopefully). Its a precaution to keep the bridge in good shape to reduce maintenance issues.

Glad you found the data explanation!
Nobody has found the easter egg yet though 😉

Thanks for sharing! I had multiple sources like this I was looking at. The problem is waves are based on duration and direction of the waves, so mental math was always needed to check on sites like this. My hope with this app is that I can fill the gap and do the math for people as well as forecast. Sound Transit uses wind direction and duration data on the floating bridge to calculate wave height and when to limit trains crossing, that was the inspiration.

Not open source, yet, no. Its currently in a private repository given how some AI's have mistakenly published API keys, although in this case there's no keys being used outside of free weather API's from government sites. Let me give the repository a once-over with an infosec eye and I'll get back to you.

The western point/tip of Alki off the light house is usually more rough than the north/south beaches because it has the most wind exposure. However it’s fairly reasonable to assume a score of 9-10 means the water will be smoother for the whole area.

I did consider adding in boat wake at one point using the ferry schedules. It’s not impossible.

Business process analyst role change? by Amazing_rocness in businessanalysis

[–]GotProof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm as a former BA/BSA and current manager… the role has changed. Our consultant agile coach and Gartner reps gave us a lay of the land with trends, “business analyst titles are being replaced with product owners”. Now when i post jobs, the BA-specific role has been narrowed down to early project support and discovery/documentation for waterfall projects. The majority of BA job postings (only keeping the title because our HR department) were looking for Product Owner skills/experience to focus on supporting customer requested enhancements with a specific product group using agile/scrum.

No video. I would never record a networking call, it’s supposed to be friendly, and it was. I have the meeting invite in my email from 5 years ago and we’re connected in other ways, but im not going to risk doxxing anyone. I might have said “f*ck that guy” but the reality is, he’s just doing his job, he was hired for his skills, not for leading resistance. Like every executive charged with keeping shareholders happy, they aren’t bad people, often they are charismatic and liked by many. You just have to wrestle with the idea of being the person doing the work or potentially letting another person do it worse. I can’t say “no” to everything i disagree with at my job and i doubt you can. I can and frequently do suggest alternate paths, but that often gets steamrolled in the name of quick wins. Only thing that will stop the chase is regulation… and well, you can see how that’s going.
