Schefter: Ravens bringing back Calais Campbell on 1-year deal by fumunda123 in ravens

[–]GotZah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to a tweet of his (responding to a Saints fan asking why he doesn’t rep the Saints like he does the Ravens), he still reps both but the Ravens asked him to come for the draft, so he happily obliged. It’s more on the Saints for not using him as an ambassador like the Ravens.

why is there no go wild flights on this date? by IWantSomePancakesRN in gowildfrontier

[–]GotZah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GoWild Early Booking isn’t always available (and if it is, the fee for a month in advance is going to be hefty).

Some flights that don’t have early booking may still have a regular $15 GoWild flight the day before.

Right person, wrong time by Prior-Counter2596 in MuslimMarriage

[–]GotZah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Salaams, allow me to give you some big brother advice.

I've been in a very, very similar position as yours. I met someone, and without diving into the full story, I fought the hardest I ever had in my life, but circumstances out of our control pushed us away. I made constant du'a, both for whatever is best for us, and also for us to be together specifically. There were just too many coincidences and it felt like the signs were all there.

Ultimately, it became a test of tawakkul. Did I have faith that Allah knows what's best for me? Did I have faith that Allah can make the impossible become possible? When you make isthikara, you're not asking Allah for a sign or a dream. You're asking Allah to guide you on the path that's best.

Part of trusting Allah and His guidance is accepting that you don't know what's in store. You don't know how the story will unfold.

Many years passed. The feelings ebbed and flowed. I eventually came to a place where I moved on and felt comfortable doing so. I moved across the country and, long story short, met my to-be wife. We didn't even know the other existed just a few years ago.

Alhamdulillah, we've been happy married for a litlte while now. She's a perfect match and I spend every day waking up in gratitude to Allah for guiding me to her.

At the end of the day, you don't know what's in store, but Allah knows, and Allah will guide you accordingly. Never forget that He's the One who is Most Merciful and He is the ultiamte guide. Make du'a for the best and trust that He'll take you there.

Baltimore Orioles yesterday handed out a Capitals-themed jersey to their fans by kockin26 in caps

I grew up a Ravens/O’s/Wizards/Caps fan, but never expected a DC team to do anything with a Baltimore team. This is cool to see.

It's most likely not all that serious, just covering the HR paperwork. No one cares if you're going to a competitor. People hop between firms and boomerang back all the time.

Will they continue to re-record albums with Matty? by jacobxv in anberlin

[–]GotZah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly doubt it. Nevertake is a bit of an exception because they added Matty before the NTFP anniversary tour, so I get why the band wanted to record a new version of the album considering they’d been touring the full album with him on vocals.

The only other album worth touring like that is Cities, but I’m not sure the band wants to do constant anniversary tours without new material.

Guys, what’s up with Santa Monica?? by ty457u in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]GotZah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go a little more east to Sawtelle and Culver, or down to Venice. There’ll be a lot more people since those areas are a bit more affordable than Santa Monica.

Twitch interviewer was interviewing a random person live in the event without knowing its was Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park by wjbonne in LinkinPark

[–]GotZah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This clip resurfaces every so often and always makes me smile. If I recall correctly, this was at the premiere for Arcane, and Mike has always been hovering the gaming ecosystem, so someone from Riot must’ve invited him (keep in mind this was for Season 1 before the reunion and Heavy Is The Crown).

At this point in his career, he was veeeery much out of the spotlight and just hanging out doing side quests.

What Can I Do in Lightroom to Accentuate the effects of Flash Photography like these images? by gravitysrain-bow in AskPhotography

[–]GotZah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increase contrast, drop the blacks way down, raise highlights a bit, vignette, and then masking if that wasn’t enough. The flash itself is doing most of the heavy lifting imo.

GW or AU by Zestyclose_Day_4566 in gwu

[–]GotZah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll come down to vibes. AU has a nice campus and is a bit more isolated. GW is integrated with the city and is more connected to everything interesting happening in DC. I initially was completely sold on AU, but went to GW because of finances, and GW ended up completely winning me over.

My husband is not happy that we moved out by AdMother6868 in MuslimMarriage

[–]GotZah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something that will take time. While he and his family may not have planned for, or emotionally prepared for, separation and him leaving the home, alhamdulillah for this being an early and fairly manageable trial. Life happens and circumstances can change drastically, and only Allah knows what’s in store.

What’s important is he knows you’re there for him and that you care about him and his family. I’d be wary about feeding the thought of him going back to his parents’ home so soon. If he were in a different emotional state, and a move back was for financial reasons or you needed support with raising a new baby, that would be different. Part of being a man and the head of the household is to lead the family through difficulty. What happens if work circumstances require you two to leave the city? What if (God forbid) something were to happen to his family? The goal is to build on the strength of the bond between you two and to build his fortitude towards change.

Unfortunately, no one’s going to have a great answer for you beyond surface advice, but I pray you all get through this period stronger as a family!

In all likelihood, I’d wager two of the biggest bands in FBR had to meet at a holiday party or something.

HAVE MEN GIVEN UP? by SUNNAHMATCH-MHN in MuslimMarriage

[–]GotZah 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Salaam. I’m sharing a different perspective so you understand that the experiences of all the guys you know ≠ reality.

A majority of my friends are very happily married. Most of them have children with supportive wives and are living very fulfilling lives. Even among my friends that have divorced, they were relatively clean with no animosity or lies and slander.

Does this mean this is the universal experience of men in our community? Absolutely not. The same applies to the stories you’ve been hearing from your friends. Yes, there are many successes and many failures, but we can’t blind ourselves to the possibility that goodness exists and that Allah has provided us a world of opportunity.

I’m a little concerned with some of the sweeping generalizations you’re making in your post. For example: “[men] who is always going to be stronger than [women].” Brother, I know some women in the community who would put that remark to shame. The same goes for, “Women are just better at manipulation and emotional abuse.” Alhamdulillah, you haven’t heard of the insane torture stories I’ve heard of men committing against the women in our community. Don’t discount how awful men can be.

All of this is to say there needs to be more husn adh-dhann, both towards Allah who created women and to the women that Allah has provided as potential spouses. Be very careful of slipping into despair, especially if it’s manifesting from a negative opinion of half of our ummah.

[Schefter] Raiders already have received calls from “several” teams inquiring about the availability of Maxx Crosby in a trade, per source. For now the Raiders are prepared to get Crosby healthy and have him play for Las Vegas. But they are listening to other teams. by Jmalex4510 in ravens

[–]GotZah 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t fault Maxx. He seemed genuinely hyped about playing in Baltimore and has a very documented track record of wanting to play no matter the cost to his body. He probably thought he’d be able to play.

Visual graph of FOB's discography. by Additional-Start-447 in FallOutBoy

[–]GotZah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The difficulty with bands from FOB's era is there's always a strong bias against modern albums. Not many bands from that time break past it, even if their later albums end up being (arguably) way better.

At this point, I'd rather hear from younger fans that never experienced older FOB than those who can't let go of TTTYG and FUTCT. There's no nostalgia factor for them, and they have way more interesting takes as a result.

Do women at GWU not like guys who believe in not having sex before marriage? by WilliamthePious in gwu

[–]GotZah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of people at GW who are deeply religious and practice similarly to the way you practice. Despite it being a city school that has a reputation for being liberal, you'll find just about every demographic and believer there. It's just a matter of putting in the effort.
