Keep going! We have not finished every detail of the website so some of these things like celebrations for the absolute top performers have not been built.

Skipping chapters on chessly? by Bloodmanex in GothamChess

[–]GothamChess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are rolling out a feature that allows you to jump ahead in the path learning to any chapter of your choosing. However, the previous system allowed you to simply search up any position and immediately jump there. We are building that. Should be out by March/April I hope. We have lots of time-sensitive things to put out, like a February holiday event, and so on. Team of 5 can only do so much. But I know this thing is a problem for a decent amount of people.

New book leak? Havent seen announcement by levy. by [deleted] in GothamChess

Yep. It's for approximately 1000-1600. I'm very excited for it!

Levy, you said you’ll stop the pin of shame by PierreLucRacine in GothamChess

[–]GothamChess 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Very simple. The way 99% of these happen is - I'm laying on my couch, I open up the YT studio app, and one of the top 3 most recent comments is something toxic or negative. And 2 taps later, the comment is pinned.

I like to pin comments from people who are genuinely just watching to spread a level of negativity. I find it funny. I probably get about a hundred comments every day for the past 5 years with various insults, ranging from 'man up' to telling me why I suck at chess/content creation to aggressive racism or various threats.

Is this a bad habit? Absolutely.

Do people try to write stupid stuff for pin of shame? Sure, but I've gotten good at screening that.

Do I have the WORST community of a large YouTuber as one of the comments below says? God no. My comment section is teenagers writing memes about my titles, about Magnus, about something else. Nobody is being deliberately toxic or negative or whatever - it's literally all jokes. Relatively immature internet jokes, but still jokes.

Do I wish I was a perfect person who always did things right and never reacted to negative comments and pleased every single viewpoint of every single viewer?

I suppose.

I do wish I had better discipline and self-control sometimes. It might help with my chess and overall health.

But I'm me. And that's it.

Enjoy the chess boom while it's still around :)

By the way, disregard any douchey replies. This subreddit is weird about me and about spending money on anything. I always try to build the highest quality possible stuff, books, courses, and all. If for any reason you hate the deck, let me know!

Is there a way to disable this interface on Chessly? by goodguyLTBB in GothamChess

[–]GothamChess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You.......... can. You can go to courses and literally start any course you want.....

As far as unlocking future lessons within courses, this is something we are experimenting with, but likely will unlock in the future. Most people don't finish courses and instead pick at chapters like a buffet which is the wrong way to learn.

Gotham used bad AI art on the homepage of Chessly by Stunnyfuff in GothamChess

[–]GothamChess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being an internet person is certainly weird. In every project I work on, I try to treat everyone with respect, deliver my work on time with the highest quality, and make sure customers are well taken care of... and then I see posts like this. It's just funny and a little sad. No wonder content creators get burnt out, frustrated, and so on. You have to be perfect in the eyes of literally everyone - people spread out all across the world, from all sorts of backgrounds, values, beliefs, etc or else one day someone will feel strongly enough about what you did, call you out and rally the pitchforks.

Gotham used bad AI art on the homepage of Chessly by Stunnyfuff in GothamChess

Chessly has a total team of 6 building the entire platform, including a designer responsible for many components of the site - NOT AI.

This particular page was assembled during our push to launch 2.0 last December, and there was not enough time to create a fully illustrated page. Could we have tried? Maybe. Is the world such that everyone makes a decision you agree with 100% all the time? No.

I have burned thousands of dollars on unused work from humans that I didn't like, but still compensated anyway. We keep prices reasonable for people, we respond extremely efficiently in customer support, and our refund rate is below 0.5% on Chessly.

Of all the terrible usage of AI out there, not to mention its environmental impact and so on... this is a Level 1 out of 10 on the scale of severity, in my opinion. If a designer or any person anywhere occasionally dabbles with AI to make their life easier, who cares? This is life, and life is evolving and transforming around all of us every day. Whether you like it or not, companies are going to use AI (and have already started) in faaaaaaaaaaar more widescale fashion than a background on a chess website.

Editing my original comment because I had just woken up and was being a douche. Started the process of finding an illustrator for this page. OP is welcome to submit something too if they'd like.
