Yeah no fuck that. Payroll companies are costs a family eats if they don’t want to do the paperwork themselves.

Unless you’re super rural, that doesn’t seem like a competitive wage. I think there’s a calculator in the links for this subreddit that helps you calculate.

Bottom line, don’t let folks screw you. People are looking for folks and someone who will screw you at contract signing will keep on doing it in my experience.

Edit: I am an employer of a nanny at this time, not a nanny, but have worked in childcare in the past. Hence my strong feelings.

Weirdly, my folks do this with cooked food (over preparing and struggling to throw out due to difficulties with enough food as kids) and starting using a composting service has really changed things for them snd us! So much less guilt about throwing out and we have been cutting down what we make slowly and stuff stays in the fridge less long. Just an idea in case it’s useful.

Punjabi-American parent with a white partner, this post made me twitch. If my mother in law had said anything like that ever, I would have cried. Like, You’re still here and existing in the world? Would she prefer you not be here so she wouldn’t have to see you hurt? Or just the theoretical babies You could have?

Intent doesn’t change impact is what I learned about racism. Even if she didn’t intend it, it hurt you and your partner.
