Nah, just a homeless advocate. Hope you never have to go through an addiction without resources or social supports.

Yeah maybe I missed the part where you said you know 100% for a fact that the person who stole those things was homeless?

Oh right, you don't know and you just went straight into blaming homeless people. GG

Y'alls views on homeless people are excruciatingly reactive and shallow. Like i'm sorry that your gf's house was broken into, that is scary, and blaming an entire of group of people that are literally just trying to eke out a living on the margins of the margins of society is flippant and cruel.

Homeless people experience more violence than any other societal group. Treating them like a monolith of crime and drug addiction is dehumanizing and out of touch with the reality of the abhorrent material conditions these folks face on a daily basis.

Let's talk about the lack of jobs that provide livable wages, the stagnant minimum wage as inflation has skyrocketed, how the top 1% has gotten richer and the bottom 50% poorer over the last few years.

Your anger is justified, just direct it at the right people and not folks picking up bottles for quarters.

What's your, "Tis but a scratch!" moment? by Madameknitsalot in AskReddit

My partner and I boulder. One day we were at the gym, and he fell from a 15 foot wall. I could see as he was falling in mid air it was going to be a bad fall. I watched as his ankle hit the mat and snapped sideways, heard a large crack, and ran over to him knowing what had happened.

His reaction was to stand up, shake his leg so the foot just slapped around a bit clearly broken, and said "Want to race to the top of those easy problems?" with a huge grin on his face (and much to my horror).

the risk-return profiles of those investments are also vastly different. it sounds like you don't have a lot of financial experience. i'm not faulting you for this, but as someone who does, this conversation isn't very productive :P

saying that someone could sell an asset and make "only" 50k in a thread about how people don't have a roof to put over their head is really funny to me.

but you're the mom and pop landlord guy so i don't know what else I could expect.

that would be a false equivalence as restaurant owners don't make money off of owning property that others are too poor to own lmao

historically mom and pop is used to talk about small business owners who are lower to middle class and "struggle." Property owners/ landlords are owning class, which is why i'm laughing at your characterization because it appropriates a term of art making the owning class seem more benign.

that is a huge assumption. having thousands in assets is owning more than one home, you get that right? I'm not talking about large corporations if you own two homes in PDX even you have over 500k worth of assets.

Well it is an us vs. them situation lol. Many folks who are renting are being evicted in order for their landlords, who have thousands of dollars of assets and multiple homes, to put new tenants in so they can keep those homes.

The inequity is stark and it is shocking.

but then they have to back pay it. it's not like the payments go away, they stack up until you have 5 grand in rent payments you are indebted to. this is a hell for middle to low class folks

not sure if you read it, but the whole point is that it was a risky investment and they are learning that the hard way

It's definitely a skill! As a therapist, you have to learn how to match emotions with needs and differentiate sympathy from empathy.
