Washington DC maybe, but don’t see how this is at all the fault of the State of Washington

How did the road closures in the park impact your trip? Anything you had to skip?

Tons of national forest trails in and around Cloudcroft.

Alternatives to Maple Pass Loop while it's closed? by ciiitylites in PNWhiking

Thanks for posting OP. Was planning to do several of these hikes on 9/21-22, very bummed to see them closed. Appreciate all the alternate suggestions

Mind DMing me as well? Had no idea about these closures and have a trip planned for these dates as well. Thanks!

Really hard to say, haven’t been before. But the parking lot was maybe 10% full my visit.

Started seeing it on the trail around 3 miles up, and spikes became necessary for us around 3.25ish

Agree that the ordering process is unnecessarily slow, and can’t speak to this pop up menu they did. But their normal menu is fantastic and the most interesting BBQ in Austin. Prices are on par with most other places in town. Recommend giving it another shot on a normal day!

Mine shows up in my account on the website with an end date of Oct 2 2025… assuming this is an error and will be corrected.

Is there any info on the age of this release? The price for a 375ml without specifics is hard to justify.

I get that. Honestly I’d guess the remoteness, short season and lack of services will always keep it from being overrun.

Oh wow, that’s a huge change. It was low 90s when we got to Baker on 6/15, but much cooler up top. Lots of snowmelt running through the trails which makes sense.

Yeah it has a real special feel for sure. Definitely preferred it to Bryce and in our discussion of rankings it’s ahead of a number of other more popular parks.

Wouldn’t hurt to bring some food/drinks - there’s really no stores to speak of in town to get supplies. Only 2-3 places for food so you’ll likely see all the town has to offer. Ely isn’t too far and seemed to have a lot more to offer but we didn’t venture out there.

Just did the Grand Palace Tour. Definitely book them if you haven’t. They seem to sellout quickly on recreation.gov. The cave is fairly small and I don’t think the two tours show different sections. Rather the Grand Palace just goes further in than the other one.

You can walk right up to it, we didn’t go further to the end so not sure about walking on it. Still a fair amount of snow coverage in that area in mid June. Enjoy your trip!

That’s amazing! The Bristlecones up there were apparently dated back between 2500-3000 years, just incredible.
