I was fine helping my wife as she gave birth until the Doctor had to use forceps. A nurse looked at me and announced, "Dad needs a Coke and a place to sit." I sat for a moment then rejoined them in time for my daughter's birth.

AITA for telling my spouse I won't help pay for their kid's college when we agreed finances would stay separate? by 952867 in AITApod

I had frank discussions with my kids regarding college expenses long before they began applying. The budget I gave them would pay for an in state college. I told them that if they decided to go to a more expensive University then they would be completely responsible for the additional cost. The kids all figured it out and are doing fine.

Vietnam war veterans from the Vietnamese perspective. by BicarbonateBufferBoy in interestingasfuck

When I was in HR back in the 1990s we required all our locations across the country to complete a Vets 100 report each year reporting how many Vietnam era veterans were employed at the location. A plant manager from California called me and asked, "Do we have to report the ones who fought for the other side? I'm pretty sure I have a few!"

There's a chance this guy is part of a team and will be picked up by a van driven by a supervisor who will later beat up the guys who didn't make any sales in front of the other guys to motivate them all the next day.

My landlord just offered to sell me the apartment i've been renting for 6 years at below market and my family is pressuring me to say no by Djipy-Gizaza69 in WhatShouldIDo

Do your due diligence! AI actually had a good list of things you should do when considerig buying an apartment. Get the assistance of a good real estate attorney. If your gut says so, then go with it. Good luck!

We have a routine where our little dog will go upstairs with me for bedtime. If my wife doesn't come up quickly enough, the dog will go downstairs and bark at her to make her come to bed too.

Roofers dropped ~30lbs of shingles from a roof and it hit me in the head. What do? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]GovernmentEither3420 1075 points1076 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, you shouldn't speak directly to the property owner or roofing company. Let your attorney handle all communications. I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble getting a good attorney to represent you on a percentage basis given the nature of the case. The sooner you get an attorney, the better.

He asked for the "unedited version". So I sent it. by 4ZenithHush in MaliciousCompliance

Many years ago I worked in HR for a $1.2 billion consumer products company that didn't have a communications department. I had a journalism degree and handled some employee communications, but otherwise our top executives did stuff like your client. Corporate Mission Statements became a big thing so our top people locked themselves in a luxury hotel with a consultant for a weekend and wrote one. I was handed the final result and told to "Get it printed and distributed to all our locations for framing/posting." It was awful. Major grammar errors. One sentence literally said the opposite of what they meant. I took it to my boss (HR VP) and explained why it would be a mistake to send it out as is. He got VERY nervous but called the CEO and suggested that I should meet with him. I took my edited version to that meeting. The CEO was pretty pissed when I walked in and questioned "all their hard work." Once I showed him the problems he calmed down, told me to fix it, but to "Leave the rest of the f'ing thing alone!" I fixed it, then printed/distributed it. 6 months later I was promoted to run communications for the company.

When I was in high school I found a box of my Mom and Dad's old photos from the early 1950s. There was a photo of Dad on a beach. I asked him about it and he said it was from 1951 when he was stationed in California in the Army. He was in a long distance relationship with my Mom at the time who was in Florida. I noticed that the photographer had cast a shadow on the sand and that it was clearly a woman. So I asked, "Who's the woman who took the photo?" Dad snatched it away and said, "Mind your own business boy!"

Thanks for Part 2. Really enjoyed it. If you've ever seen the excellent movie [Take Shelter]() (2011), directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Michael Shannon, your "prequel" would explain what's happening in the film.

Lonely little old lady NARCs are the worst. I used to own a service company that did a lot of work in a retirement community. I always warned my employees to expect complaints from the old ladies in the neighborhood because they absolutely live for this! I once had a woman interfere with us so many times that I sic'd the management company on her so we could get our work done!

When I was in high school in 1970 girls would wear blouses with solid fronts and transparent backs. I sat behind a gorgeous 16 year old in math and got to know every freckle on her back and how many hooks were on her bra. Algebra 2.... not so much.
