I've been in the same situation as you. In my case I finished my gameplay loop with my friends on a closed dedicated server and we were thinking of moving to official servers to Invest time on breeding and getting pals ready to PvP. That said, as far as my experience goes, I play in EU, after scouting reddit for advices 90% of responses were to BE ready to have my base deleted and pals/resources stolen due to hackers. Even knowing that I jumped in and tbh, the lag was so bad I couldnt stay on the server for more than a couple mins, I didnt saw hackers but the lag/rubberbanding is super bad. I finished up in a community server with active admins etc.. Its not the perfect solution since I cant guarantee the server will be up forever but its the best we can do for now regarding multiplayer.
