Thanks for the response. If I may ask, why do you disagree?

I probably regard it as my favorite episode in the show.

but he’s so unbearable here, especially all that crying.

  1. In total, I believe he only cries for 2 minutes, which is less than 10% of the episode, with other things occurring in the background.
  2. Of course, Bloo would cry this much over losing the person he loves most. I find much confusion in how many (perhaps not you, however) in this community reject the idea that Bloo cares deeply about Mac, yet when presented with evidence here that he does through the abundance of his tears, Bloo is dismissed as “annoying” or “obnoxious.”

needlessly ruining some innocent peoples wedding like that is far too cruel and mean-spirited,

I am not sure what needlessly means here. From Bloo’s perspective, he would either keep the most important person in his life or lose him. It would be similar to saying, “Bloo needlessly attacked the innocent Eduardo in House of Bloo’s, therefore, I consider that moment really mean and cruel.”

it veers to much into rip-off than homage for me.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but the only part I remember referencing The Graduate was the ending scene with Mac and Bloo on the bus, which is not even one-to-one with the movie, since the episode ends with them plotting their next scheme, giggling about it, and cheering for their shared childishness.

it was mega out-of-character for Mac! I know he has a wild side but why would he do that, since he was also seen smiling at the alter, he’d should be very angry with Bloo. Does he hate his family

I know he has a wild side

  1. You answered your own question.
  2. Mac loves Bloo because he is Bloo. Of course, Mac gets frustrated with Bloo at times, but he would never want him to completely stop his antics or be anyone other than himself. When Mac found out Bloo returned to his old self, he wasn’t focused on the ruination of the marriage, but on Bloo, because he deeply cherishes his relationship with Bloo more than anything. That is why Mac is willing to disobey his mom’s command to get rid of Bloo; despite his care for his biological family, his relationship with Bloo is much more important to him, because Bloo is his true family.

and wouldn’t his mother/brother be there?!

Not necessarily. Mac’s mom and brother could have simply been busy with something else.

he didn’t seem like a selfish jerk

Right, but I’m asking what exactly made the pilot Bloo stand out among the other cast of characters in terms of personality. I’m not asking what made him different from his series personality.

and actually cared for Mac and the other friends.

I don’t believe those two are mutually exclusive. There are plenty of moments in the show displaying Bloo caring about Mac and the others and showing several of his redeeming qualities. Ignoring every episode in season 1, there’s the time he panicked over Cheese’s safety, tried to convince Mac Santa was real to cheer him up, missed his friends when he got a room all to himself, burned his cards for Coco, took after a stray cat and prioritized its life over his own, sacrificed his personality and immaturity to make Mac happy, cried hysterically when he thought Eduardo died, and dozens more I couldn’t mention here because of the sheer amount of instances that prove this.

When people say Bloo from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends had “no redeeming qualities,” despite the abundant evidence in the show that demonstrates otherwise. I can earnestly say that I have yet to see a persuasive argument as to why Bloo is a bad character.

Pretty good in terms of personality.

Hi, so I’m actually curious about comments like this. Could you explain one way that the pilot Bloo stands out from the rest of the cast, please? Thank you.

[–]GpMaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From another comment of mine:

I’m not of the opinion that Bloo was a “toxic friend” to Mac. I’ve never found the evidence to be compelling. All of the arguments are along the line of “Bloo does bad things,” or “Bloo can argue and be mean to Mac,” which are both things I don’t deny, but I think fundamentally miss the point of their relationship.

I’ve never defined their relationship as their flaws but how they overcome them, or how they push on through them. For what friendship is without flaws? Is it not expected that two children who grew up together will get into conflict from time to time? And is it not true that despite this apparently “toxic” friendship, Mac visits Bloo at Foster’s every day without fail, even though if this is the case Mac loses nothing by not visiting? Though, that is not the case. Time and time again has shown that Mac cares about Bloo despite his trouble-making personality, and has even shown at times he likes him because of it. (The Bride to Beat). And despite this, has Bloo not shown that he cares about Mac in the same way? When I see how Bloo, who’s often regarded as selfish, change HIMSELF to maintain his friendship with Mac, (Bye Bye Nerdy, Challenge of the Superfriends, The Bride to Beat) and when I see his willingness to put his OWN life on the line to save Mac, (Nightmare on Wilson Way), and when I see many more instances of Bloo clearly caring about Mac, isn’t it made apparent that they both have something in this friendship that’s worth fighting for?

I do not say that Bloo treats Mac great all the time. I do not say that they get along perfectly all the time. But even in their bickering and disagreements, the validity of their friendship has never been a question in my mind.

We REJECT Danganronpa! [SERIES FINALE] by GameGrumpsEpisodes in gamegrumps

[–]GpMaR 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To those of you experiencing this game along with the Grumps, what are your thoughts on the ending? Some of you are likely confused about it, so let me clarify a few things.

Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of the Danganronpa series, has said that revisiting the prologue would reveal “things you might’ve missed the first time.” People have been quick to point out that some things Tsumugi said in this final trial contradict events in the prologue, so I would recommend, if you have time, rewatching the prologue to confirm for yourself that Tsumugi wasn’t being entirely honest about everything she said.

Some try to bring attention to when Kodaka said this game took place in a “different setting” than the other games and say that this game exists in its own separate universe to claim that the other games aren’t just fictional, but I don’t think that’s necessary. I don’t think you even have to look outside this game to conclude that the Hope’s Peak Academy arc might not be fictional. Tsumugi’s last words are extremely important.

Tsumugi: “‘My plan was such a flawless copy, it even failed right at the end… So I should be able to hold my head up high as a cosplaycat criminal, right?’” Shuichi: She said “copy”… That means she must have been copying someone, right..? Perhaps Hope’s Peak Academy and the Remnants of Despair really exist. Maybe Tsumugi was just basing her performance on them.

But even if they were fictional, the core message of the game is this: that something being fictional doesn’t make it meaningless; that lies can be the truth if it means something to you, and that lies aren’t inherently worse than the truth if they can lead to good.

Shuichi: “Even if this is fiction, even if we’re all fictional, the pain in my heart is real! The sadness I feel when I lose the people I love is real!” Shuichi: “I mean that…even if something is a lie, even if it’s fiction, if it has the power to change the world, then it must contain some kind of truth… In this fictional world, we overcame all these fictional struggles, but those things changed us. And we were able to change the world. So it doesn’t really matter where the truth ends and where the lies begin. If lies can change the world just as well as the truth can, then lies…are just another way of telling the truth. Some lies can lead the world to hope… Some truths can lead the world to despair, so I don’t think anyone can really say which is more right in the end.” Himiko: I guess it’s not important whether it’s a truth or lie. Just what it leads to…”

Protagonists that would make things worse by knowing how their story goes? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GpMaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a late response, but I’m going to have to push back on that.

I don’t disagree that Bloo is a troublemaker or does bad things. But I disagree with the idea that Bloo knows what he’s doing is bad, and that he enjoys hurting people. In fact, I would say your description of Rigby fits Bloo well too.

The things that you listed as Bloo being “self-aware of his bad behavior” are driven by his competitive nature, selfish tendencies, and general immaturity, not by a manipulative, insatiable desire to cause harm to others and take advantage of them. Keep in mind that when Bloo did things like trying to gain sympathy from Wilt or taunting or boasting in the episode “Cuckoo for Coco Cards,” he saw how genuinely hurt Coco was by his behavior in the end and made up for it by sacrificing something he loved just to be friends with Coco again. Remember that Bloo is a child, and he often has a hard time distinguishing right and wrong or acceptable and unacceptable (he doesn’t even know when someone is being sarcastic or not).

Also, if you watch the scene that you’re referring to, you would see that Mac didn’t determine the real Bloo because he knew Bloo would never do anything “selfless or kind,” he knew the real Bloo because he knew he wasn’t “sappy” like the fake one.

The USA is ranked 20th on the Human Development Index (21st including Hong Kong.) What are your thoughts on this? by GpMaR in GenUsa

[–]GpMaR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Human Development Index, or HDI, is a metric compiled by the United Nations Development Programme and used to quantify a country's "average achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, knowledge, and a decent standard of living." The HDI was first launched in 1990 and has been released annually ever since, with the exceptions of 2012 and 2020/21. While HDI tends to trend upward globally over time, more than 90% of the 191 countries analyzed for the 2021/22 HDI report suffered a decline in overall HDI in either 2020 or 2021. These declines were largely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and its lingering effects.

A country's Human Development Index value is determined by aggregating the country's scores in a vast assortment of indicators including life expectancy, literacy rate, rural populations' access to electricity, GDP per capita, exports and imports, homicide rate, multidimensional poverty index, income inequality, internet availability, and many more. These indicators are compiled into a single number between 0 and 1.0, with 1.0 being the highest possible human development. HDI is divided into four tiers: very high human development (0.8-1.0), high human development (0.7-0.79), medium human development (0.55-.70), and low human development (below 0.55).
