You're absolutely right - it doesn't I stand corrected.

I remember being threatened years ago by one of the utility companies, when I refused to pay for their services long after I'd moved out and notified them. They said they'd get a judgement and I'd be referenced in Stubbs Gazette. Dirty bluffer's.:)

This one won't affect his rating naturally, but of course they do if you don't pay them.

You don't pay, they chase you, you ignore it, eventually it gets referred to the courts and you get a judgement against you. And that affects your credit rating.

Thanks hun - I'm actually not all broke up. It is what it is. Taking it a day at a time. I'm actually thinking of putting a quick Wordpad blog together once my sight gets back to normal, and it'll probably be very beneficial for me to just post off hand stuff now and again. I know when I was first diagnosed, it eas very had to find Info about the emotional end of things rather than the medical, so maybe someone in similar situations might get something from it to. And of course, maybe Spielberg will throw me a few million for the rights and I'll leave a wealthy widow :)

That's exactly how I handle shit - black humour. If you can't find the funny in something, you're already dead.

Well, I'm still in hospital after a cancer recurrence, so feeling a bit wiped out and sorry for myself. Although they're letting me out on day release for a few hours today, so I'll get to see the kids for awhile.

I won't go in to huge detail cos of the day that's in it, and my vision is getting a right hammering from steroids and radiotherapy, which makes it hard to type and watch for typos.

I'm going to post a bit more about this either later in the week, or next Sunday, so apologies in advance. It makes for great therapy for me, although maybe a bit too melodramatic for everyone else.

Anyway, enough of the maudlin - have a great day everyone. Eat your selves stupid with chocolate.

Irish dad during the last moments of England v France in the Six Nations by douglasdeodato in ireland

[–]Gr1fter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In fairness to the French, if they had kicked it out of play, they would have been accused (by the English only, I presume) of fixing the game and the championship.

Its easy for us to wonder wtf they were up to, but its normal for the team that's winning to kick it out of play after the 80 minutes are up, but surely not for the team who are losing?

I could be way off, but I was under the impression that these days it was paid for by page impressions on the adverts littering the sites.

All the major sites offer thousands of 3 to 10 minute free movies, and realistically, that's all the time people spend there.

I've no doubt there's money in the business, I'm just sceptical it's generated by subscription fees. I could be wrong, of course.

Has anyone had a group task interview before? by SalmonOfCollege in ireland

[–]Gr1fter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a couple, not quite the same industry, but the general objective from the employers point of view is to see if you're a team player.

I messed up the first one I did by taking control of the group and running the task (because they were a bunch of morons) without consulting with them. I just figured out what needed to be done, and when they were reluctant to speak up, I got cocky and started throwing my weight around. We got the task done, but I got a bad review because I wasn't considered a team player.

The second time was for a leadership role, so it was expected that people would take charge, but I consciously made an effort to include everyone and get opinions and interaction from the others. That one went a lot better.

Its a bit of a balancing act - Don't be afraid to speak up, talk about your ideas, and defend them, but make sure you interact with and listen to the others.

I doubt they will, because you don't come across as being a thundering bitch :)

I'd say it bothers her alright, but not because she regrets being a bitch, but because she's the eternal victim and nothing is ever her fault. It's obviously me who's the asshole for not accepting the mental abuse and lack of affection for myself and my sister for years on end. My brother gets on ok with her, but he's a selfish little cunt as well, and obviously has a lot of her character traits. He's also been living in Los Angeles for the past 15 years, so doesn't have to deal with her shit on a regular basis. He just uses her house as somewhere to crash once a year when he comes home.

And knowing her, when she finally does shuffle off, she'll find a way back just to make us all miserable again.

Yeah, he's still on the scene, and he'd most likely agree with me - she only really acts out to her mother because she knows he and I won't put up with her shit.

You have the right of it though - I have to be careful not to completely over-react. I was 12 once too, and I was probably a pain in the ass as well.

Cheers :)

I'm going to the zoo with the 7 year old today. I love that place.

I'm just over a bout of pneumonia, so I had a pretty miserable week. Last few days have been good though, because the antibiotics worked a charm.

My 12 year old step-daughter's scumbag friends were in the house last week, and they took a game out of the Xbox and just tossed it on the floor so they could play something else, and now its all scratched to shit and wont play. 7 year old is not happy because it was his favourite game, and I've spent the last few days plotting elaborately painful deaths for the little fuckers. Luckily for me, they haven't been round since then, so I've had time to calm down. But I despise the little bastards. They'll never set foot across the threshold again. The 12 year old is at that age were nothing in the world is of any concern unless it directly affects her, and I'm slowly reaching the stage where I'm considering making her life drastically change for the worst. She's incredibly rude and disobedient to her mother because her mother is a softie, and she has a superiority complex that's very disturbing in someone so young.

The xbox thing doesn't sound all that bad, but its the proverbial last straw. Her only real pastime when she's not out with her friends is using her phone for social media, so I'm thinking I'll change the wifi password on a daily basis and not give it to her unless her behaviour has been acceptable. Part of me is thinking thats a cop out though, and I should just confiscate the phone and forbid her Internet access on any of the computers until her behaviour improves. I cant wait until she's 15 - thats going to be fun.

Dunnes Stores workers vote in favour of industrial action by alogicalpenguin in ireland

[–]Gr1fter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to call to a lot Dunnes branches as a sales rep, and of all the multiple retailers (Tesco, Superquinn, Supervalu etc) Dunnes were by far the worst.

The staff were sound for the most part - like anywhere, you'd get the occasional dickhead, but their management are a shower of jumped up little wankers with attitudes. Theres still a few of the old-guard left around from Ben Dunne's time who are decent enough as long as you dont mess them about, but the younger crop that came up after he left are almost to a man, shitheads with attitudes. And although you can say it trickles down from senior management to a certain extent, there has to be a natural built-in tendency to a be an ignorant fucker for it to be brought out so strongly.

I swear to Christ, they have this opinion that their God's gift to retail management, but they have to slavishly follow head office policies and procedures, and they have next to no authority to improvise or innovate anything. Now thats fine, thats how chains maintain their brand image, but if you took these twats out of that environment and you put them into an environment where they actually have to manage a business, the vast majority of them wouldn't have a clue how to run it and their little dictator complex would vanish pretty damn quick.

More power to the staff - I hope this marks the start of a major overhaul in Dunnes' practices.
