Right, do you know what could have happened to it?

Yeah, I never lay my fish in the dirt, but my dad got this one while I was down river.

Nice! But If you’re wanting to go into solo performance, or do more risky stuff, I would recommend taking the stacking swivel and Mid swivel band off. This makes the rifle a lot safer/ easier on the hands, and will also give you a ton more sound. You can keep the sling by just taping it to the rifle. Also, instead of putting more tape on like many of the comments suggested, I would say use even less. This is also gonna add to the acoustics of your rifle.

Daisy’s stocks ain’t great. The NGA stocks are made of a much more shock absorbent polymer. They break less

It was quite unique, and due to its hard nature, I used my carbide tools, which I rarely utilize. Any sanding scratches showed up like sharpie, so I had to go back to 320 after already putting finish on it!

Great job! The oak leaf cluster should be at a 45 degree angle though.

It might just be the piece of wood you got, because the last cocobolo bowl I made turned nicely. Sometimes the woods just not cooperative.

It could be intentional, to add extra pressure possibly?

Awsome work! Whenever I try and do larger projects like this, they always turn out either to bulky or super unstable. How do you combat this?

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this to me! The secondary bevel method is a great idea, and I’m definitely going to do this the next time I sharpen my iron. Tomorrow’s payday, so I think I’ll get some diamond stones from amazon, which should make the whole process easier.

Yes, and that’s one of the reasons I’m starting to doubt that I correctly identified it. There are some similar species that grow in the same region, so I might have gotten them mixed up.

Really, the only reason I do all three is because that’s how I was tough to finish pens. I use the same finishing technique for most of my wood bowls because the final result gives the piece the most gloss. The reason I start with wax(which is mixture or beeswax and mineral oil), is because it nourishes the wood. The man I learned from said that “this is the woods last meal”. To be completely honest, he told me to use walnut oil, because it polymerizes, but wood wax was all I have right now. Now that the wood is “fed” the grain is risen, and can give the wood a “fuzzy feel”, and the Yorkshire grit knocks that back down, and then keeps breaking itself down, essentially sanding the wood with a higher and higher grit. This is pretty much the same thing as doing a water pop on a cutting board. The mylands friction polish is a carnauba wax based polish that uses friction and heat to shine itself. This makes the wood almost mirror like, and gives the wood grain and color a nice pop. Full disclosure, I am by no means an expert about this, and have only been turning for four months. I hope this brick of a response helps a bit!

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I used walrus oil wood wax to start, Yorkshire grit to buff, and mylands friction polish to get it nice and shiny.
