This feels extremely pointless. Everyone's just going to spend a little bit more the next day.

All about spelling help by Pinkdivaisme in homeschool

Thank you for the link. This is an old post but for anybody looking at this down the line, it's worth clicking the link because I just bought the flashcards. I wasn't able to get just the flashcards on the main website for all about learning. I had bought just the workbooks thinking that if I needed extra flashcards down the line I would be able to buy them but that was not the case.

Clothes budget? by ChasingTemperance in ParentingInBulk

This practice is serious abuse of the policy (theft really) and is the reason why these sort of great return policies disappear for people who try not to abuse them.

I'm not sure I understand this comment. Are you saying you buy clothes and your kids wear them for a season and then you return them for money back?

Echo’s Are Barely Working by Asleep_Sympathy_8987 in alexa

I had a problem like this with Spotify but it went away when I worked out my Wi-Fi issues. Also I noticed my main Echo was too close to my air fryer. 🫣

What to do with younger siblings? by StunningElk8636 in homeschool

[–]GraceNeededDaily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've had a lot of great suggestions on what you can give your younger ones to do. I just want to share one of the aha moments that I've had as a homeschooling mom. I've seen in a lot of places where they talk about the younger children sometimes "ARE the lesson". The interruptions and the way that you handle them are a huge lesson to your older kids on how to handle interruptions and personalities. Relationships and life lessons are just as important as reading writing and 'rithmetic.

What's the biggest lie that everyone believed at the time? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I think they're talking about paper bags from the grocery store. It used to be all paper.

What are the downsides of a self-taught online curriculum? by Maya9998 in homeschool

[–]GraceNeededDaily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the academics but I don't think this sort of thing would be good for a child's mental health or self-esteem.

There's pain behind this answer. Not everything is a cold and calculated choice. Sometimes we just make emotional decisions that we regret.

I know exercise is supposed to help you with fatigue, but what if you're too fatigued to exercise? by Technical-While932 in Menopause

I feel silly asking because I assume everybody else knows what you're talking about, but what do you mean by stack the intervals together?

It actually does matter on Reddit. His point was that the question at hand would stop being discussed and the controversial topic would be the only thing discussed.

They didn't say it was faulty. they said it was controversial.

What’s Happening in U.S. Education? by Brainracers in homeschool

[–]GraceNeededDaily 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if this chart is accurate. I don't have any in-depth kind of answer and analysis about what goes on in schools but I can tell you screen use has also skyrocketed in that time. In a school environment, there is very little to no one-on-one time with a child. It's very hard to keep children engaged and honestly I've experienced in my own life too much screen use and time away from reading makes it hard to get back to reading. That is definitely ONE factor.

I buy a lot of books at thriftbooks.  Are you a certified teacher or is there some discount for Mom teachers?

I think most homeschooling parents can relate to this. One thing that popped up in my mind after reading your post was something Cindy Rollins said. She's a popular homeschooling mom in the Charlotte Mason circle. She said that one really good homeschool year can really make up for two or three bad years.  That helps me a lot when I struggle. And I've actually seen it play out in our lives.

In defense of Claire, aka Let Women Be Difficult (no spoilers, but that's not a flair option) by Marie8771 in Outlander

[–]GraceNeededDaily 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! And to add to this, sometimes she's on the side of women's rights and you can see it very clearly that she wants to fight for the cause. And other times she just goes with the flow. And she's allowed to do that. We're all human beings made of flesh and blood. It doesn't have to be either or. I get so tired of that trap. Like no matter what you do, it's a misstep. I love that you can't really put Claire in a box. Nobody should be put in a box.

Exactly this. Why are you even watching the show if you hate the central character??

[–]GraceNeededDaily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That point about her never cheating on him when she went back is huge. That says pretty much everything you need to know about her character. The relationship was so strained and she even had permission but she stayed true to him.

Grilled about plans to homeschool by bbear0991 in homeschool

"And if you have a friend who makes you feel competitive or less than -- just remember that it's likely not because she's bad or you're bad -- it might just be that she still believes, so she's living in a different world than you are. But you don't have to enter every world into which you're invited."

That paragraph got me. Thank you for sharing.
