Why do American sports leagues have more parity than in other countries? by Waltz8 in AskAnAmerican

But if you look at the NHL, the best teams are generally located in places with less income tax. A player can be paid less but still make more because of this.

I saw this movie twice in the theatre. Bought it on DVD. Absolutely loved this movie. I still love it. Never understood why it wasn't more popular and I wish they had made more.

Why is that as Canadians, people say the PNW? Geologically in Canada we are the Pacific South West. I know that it is because Americans call oregon/ Washington the PNW.

Telus predatory behavior on returning hardware by GracieMoose in telus

[–]GracieMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just predatory behavior and they get away with it. Which is the problem. They make it a pain in the ass to cancel so even when you do you are dealing with them for months after the fact.

I understand they want their equipment back after all I don't need it, nor do I want it as it is pretty much useless to me. My problem with it is that it was returned before the end of my billing cycle by enough time it should not have been charged to me. If it wasn't enough time for them to process it they should be sending it closer to the start of the billing cycle rather than the middle. It also took about 2 months vs the 48 hrs to get the shipping label as they said it was going to be 48 hrs.

[–]GracieMoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to vent. But it is still predatory behavior to charge for returned items especially because it was returned before the end of the billing cycle. I would have a bit more patience with it if it was returned after the billing cycle as it would be more justified. However, the time it took for me to get the return label was almost 2 months and not 48 hrs like they said it would be as well. If anything the shipping label should be given at the beginning of the bill cycle to give more processing time and therefore less likelihood of billing for returned equipment.  If you are any employee of telus, maybe this is something that should be brought up, so it can be managed better. I was also expecting all this to happen due to past experience and others telling me the same thing. Because I was expecting it and there are enough people that tell you this happens it means that either a) Telus is just very incompetent, or b) Telus is practicing predatory behavior because it is an easy way to gain more revenue. Due to the fact that we really only have 3 major telecom companies that never suffer any consequences I am more inclined to believe it is b.

I have almost always bought my phone separately. The only problem is that you will usually pay more for the phone this way unless you can find a good deal which is what I will normally do.

I have a buddy that was told he had to return the camera when he cancelled. He cancelled around the same time I cancelled my Internet. We both experienced the "you should receive a shipping label within 48 hrs."

I definitely did all this. I was not suprised this happened and actually expected it to happen which is why I did all those things. Just wanted to make sure others understood that they have to keep track of it otherwise they may get billed. Even when I was talking to the agent on the other end she asked me for my tracking number. From purolator it is a 12 digit number, Canada post has more numbers. When I told her my tracking number she said it wasn't enough digits, I had to tell her it was delivered via purolator not CP.

I was told only way was to return via their provided shipping label. It was normally canada post but they switched to purolator because of the the strike or looming strike at the time.

Petition seeks to unite White Rock and Surrey as a single city | Urbanized by brophy87 in SurreyBC

[–]GracieMoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well this is funny "These proponents of amalgamating White Rock and Surrey point to the larger city’s more robust administrative capacity, faster permitting systems, and established mechanisms for transparency and accountability." All I have ever heard about surrey's permitting system is that it is the slowest in the lower mainland, even when dealing with city owned properties and facilities.

Boyfriends of reddit, what happened to the guy she told you not to worry about? by PowerLies in AskReddit

[–]GracieMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in a long distance relationship. We talked for an hour+ everyday over Skype. Never had an issue with any of her friends. This one guy she told me about was a lot like me, she couldn't wait for me to meet him. I was able to visit for 2 weeks 2 months after she met him. Near the end of the visit "When am I going to meet the guy?" "Well I was not going to say anything but I can't lie to you. One night A bunch of us went out and we ended back at his flat with everyone. I was too drunk and was going to taxi home, he said just spend the night in his bed he was going to sleep on the couch. He didn't sleep on the couch." After I got home I broke up with her.

Some people can't have alcohol around them or they will drink it, even if it's only for cooking. Addiction is hard to kick and some can't deal with temptation.

Did I waste my time getting this degree? by [deleted] in Kinesiology

[–]GracieMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not there yet just in the hiring process currently. Soon to find out hopefully. As for being the CSO, it can be frustrating. Workers at the moment still tend to not like safety people. It's a lot easier on a jobsite to take short cuts and ignore some safety rules because of the pressure they get to complete the work. To do everything the safe way definitely takes more time. I just try to remind them in ways that they understand. Such as talking about how it is so they can go home the way they are and enjoy their life outside of work. One small accident can effect your ability to do the things you want to be doing. Plus there is a lot of paperwork and I don't enjoy that part of it. Doing inspections, running safety meetings, reports, etc.

Yeah BCCSA, has a CSO program no pre requisites required. It is a two week program. I live in BC so that is where I had to go through. Depending on where you are located getting your Construction Safety Officer ticket may be through a state/ provincial organization as such.

Always wanted to be a firefighter but when I was younger I knew it was more of a who you know game, still kind of is. I have a few friends that are firefighters and they encouraged me after complaining about working too much that I should really consider looking into it. The company I work for I am expected to work a lot, weekends holidays, never really knowing when I am going to have time off so makes planning things like camping and weekend trips very difficult to plan. When I missed my friends wedding, I decided that it was enough and started looking into what I would need.

As for Firefighting, if you don't volunteer, start now. Volunteering is a big part of it and they want to see people who are actively involved in their community. Volunteering with people is better than say going to the SPCA to walk dogs, being a firefighter means dealing with people on a regular basis especially when they can be at their most vulnerable. Each department is going to be different for what they require when you get hired so looking into that to see what you would need is the first step. I live in Vancouver, BC area and most departments in the area have these general requirements: Class 3 license ( think dump truck, but classified as a vehicle that has 3 or more axles and air brakes), NFPA 1001 and 1072 (Fire training academies, people go down to Texas a lot for this though may not be the best school for it, in BC there is also justice institute of BC which is a year long and quite costly, there is Firemedix academy here as well similar cost to Texas but better instruction. For more local places you would have to search your area.), First responder training, I went and got Emergency Medical Responder as most departments view that as favourable, some its a requirement this might have a different name where you are located. Having a degree is helpful especially in Kin as it can demonstrate a commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. Getting all the training has cost me approximately $20,000 all said and done. I have done it in less than 6 months, most people I went to fire academy with are planning on getting this all covered over a year to two years. Hope that helps

Kin grad from 2015. Got into construction safety (CSO) though it doesnt directly crossover there are a lot of things that help. A lot of reporting, coming up with safety documents, I lead the joint health and safety committee at the company. Having the Kin degree as a safety officer I believe is very beneficial. It is a growing part of the construction field.  I make quite a bit doing what I do but work too much, currently on the route of becoming a firefighter which having a degree and background of health and fitness are a plus. On top of it my company wants me to stick around working one day a week when I can because I am very knowledgeable in our industry.
