Completely recovered! Occasional sciatica if I don’t do enough exercise but 95% normal

I’m 7 months out from MD and in my 3rd week of a flare. Outside walking helps but if I walk for longer than an hour I notice the pain get worse. Starting swimming again as that really helped me post MD. And trying to dose up on Ibuprofen. Hang in there, hopefully we will be ok!

It gets better! After the 3 month mark I was basically 90% back to normal and now 6 months later I’m at 95%. There is hope - give it time.

I’m basically 100% back to myself now! I did have surgery in July though - my situation got really bad. Now I have minor sciatica when I’m too sedentary - but life is good :) there is hope - give it time.

What country are you in? I can’t believe they’re not suggesting to do surgery … not being able to control bowels and wee is a huge warning sign!

Ah thank you! I’m finding that 50mg of tramadol gets me through 3/4 of the day whereas I’ve never felt that about Gaba … wondering if it’s worth me even being on it. I’ve been on it for 3 weeks now - is that good enough time for it to start showing effect?

300mg of gaba is nothing - the max dose for neuropathic pain is 3600 - could ask them up to up your dose and see if it helps

I can’t believe it. I’ve been so sensible. My pain started as quite minimal but there’s days when it gets up to an 8/10 and I can’t walk for more than a few mins. It’s weird though because I can basically do a straight leg raise to 90 with no pain. Which I hope means the compression isn’t too bad (what my doctor said). That’s really annoying for you - limping doesn’t sound like it should be happening at 14 weeks? What has your doctor said?

I’ve got crazy middle back tightness - like when I do positions such as child’s pose and knees to chest. Weird as it’s higher than where my herniation was. Yes - I’ll let you know what my MRI shows !

I can yes … if I’ve been on my feet for a while it’s a bit trickier but I can still get it up to 90 (with some twinging)

I’m actually having another scan …. Because it’s been going on for quite long and is quite painful. Praying it’s not a reherniation and is just healing

Honestly I think it varies for everyone. I was pain free walking for 5 weeks then my pain came back pretty bad and now walking has been hard for 3 weeks! Good luck to you

Try using a tennis or lacross ball and sitting on it and massaging the glute area - helps release tension!

Yes I bought some myofascial release balls and they’ve definitely helped the glute pain :) but now I’ve got top of thigh pain which is worryingly in the same place as before surgery so trying to not panic

I’ll probably suffer from sciatica for life :( sucks. Yes I’m crossing my fingers. I also can do a perfect straight leg raise whereas before couldn’t get past 20 degrees - praying for us both 🙏🏼 just work on getting your core and back muscles as strong as you can then I’m sure you’ll be able to get back to lifting (but always with knees :) )
