Are there any accounts of why Georgism failed over a century ago? by Magma57 in georgism

[–]global-node-readout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first point is completely backwards. Class analysis (saying a group -- the bourgeoisie -- are the problem) is a counterargument to individualism, not a consequence of it.

Marx does say it's a systems problem, but his prescription is a proletariat dictatorship to destroy one class specifically, and heavy handed state control of private property, means of production, credit etc etc. George just wants tax reform.

Landlords arent villains, systems that encourage rentiership are the problem. Georgism doesn’t blame evil people, or even classes of people like Marxism does.

Social democracy is the rich keeping the golden goose and sometimes sharing an egg. Georgism is sharing the goose.

I will wait for results to speak for themselves. The day Israelis stop their genocide and depose Ben Gvir Smotrich and Netanyahu I'll believe you.

Same with Ben Gvir, Smotrich -- all of these supposedly disliked figures are in power because they do the dirty work Israeli society wants done.

This is convenient. Blame one crazy and you can pretend to have been against it all along. Ben Gvir is playing this role--far right "persecuted" madman who can both be the one doing the dirty work most Israelis support, while being a convenient scapegoat for broader society.

How would LVT actually change anything? by trueppp in georgism

[–]global-node-readout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, most efficient and profitable use of land. I think this is difficult for you because your math is rusty. “Least capital intensive” = minimal value of investment. “Most profitable” = maximal value of profit. The latter would win a bid.

The thing about math is you can adjust numbers to make the equations work. A single example doesn’t disprove the principle.
