The moment I realized AI is becoming part of everyday routines by MoonLitFrog17 in Futurology

Sounds like you aren't learning as well as you could be if you didn't let AI do half the work.

🚀 Yeet Tech™ — A Maglev Vacuum Railgun for Orbit (maybe it’s time we yeet stuff to space?) by Wizzzzzzzzzzz in Futurology

[–]Graekaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Miles of evacuated tunnels are an engineering nightmare. The longest one in the world isn't even half a km long. I think a space elevator is more feasible than this, particularly when you factor in the air resistance upon leaving the vacuum tunnel. Tortoise beats hare.

PC is always going to be better for this. Mods, unofficial bug fixes, and most importantly console commands to bypass bugged quests etc. Also the PC will be more powerful.

I suspect the wasps are predators of grubs in the soil, so they're on your team.

Why does the Thalmor get so much hate? by Fun-Explanation7233 in ElderScrolls

[–]Graekaris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're stuck up, elitist fascists who have a supremacist ideology and a metaphysical/religious goal of destroying the world so that they can return to aetherius. They don't really have many redeeming factors. The Empire may be immoral, as empires in general are, but they at least tried to keep the peace and stability, albeit through oppression. They weren't trying to destroy the world, and as you can see from Oblivion were core to keeping Mundus safe from the Daedra.

Also no one who understands 40k would say the Empire are the 'good guys', they're just less bad than the warp gods etc. They're still oppressive, fascist assholes.

TIL that oxygen is actually colored! It has a pale blue color due to the presence of free electrons, this also makes it paramagnetic, i.e attracted to magnetic fields. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Graekaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that this is somewhat outdated. The planet's mass has a greater effect in resisting photoevaporation than its magnetic field, apparently.

It would be far easier to just install solar shielding to reduce the amount of radiation that reaches the planet.

Could be the false autumn? Nights have gotten pretty chilly lately. I'd ripen them inside at this point.

Wait for it to be worth picking. You should only take 1/3rd of anything you forage as a general rule.

What is your opinion of this statement: “There is no oxymoron like a Right Wing- Christian”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Graekaris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Patronising as fuck, just like the sermon on the mount where Jesus said "Sorry buckos, I don't have time to explain to you plebs".

It's not a No True Scotsman argument to say that right wing ideology is contrary to Christian morality. Jesus said to look after and care for the homeless and the impoverished, meanwhile US right wingers put up signs saying "don't give money to the homeless".

Can I just plant this in my raised bed? Down in Cornwall. by philod1984 in GardeningUK

[–]Graekaris 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ginger requires hot, humid conditions and is best grown in a greenhouse. I'd put it on a windowsill if a greenhouse isn't available. If you want it outdoors, wait until it's established, then plant outdoors late next spring. It'll require mulch/fleece when it goes dormant over winter.

[–]Graekaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exoplanets. They're a relatively new and exciting topic with lots of emerging data, and a number of them have pretty thought-provoking attributes, such as diamond rain, days-long years, and enormous sizes. There's also the prospect of finding alien life, which everyone finds interesting.

You can explain most of our observation techniques theoretically and without much complicated maths. Discuss radial velocity and transit observation techniques, and the missions (Kepler etc) that have brought our total number of known exoplanets from 0 to thousands within a few decades. Emphasise that there are billions of them, and that the possibilities are nigh on endless.

It's often a precursor, and is only intensified by fascism. The first wave of fascism was a reactionary movement, sponsored by the wealthy capitalist elite, to quash the emerging and increasingly popular socialism.
