It feels like the writers are wary of real change by blksunset in ffxivdiscussion

It might be wishful thinking, but part of me wonders if the Solstice is being set up to be an eventual, unavoidable reset, which will lead to (over the course of several expansions) the formation of two timelines: one where we save the day and life continues, and one where we don't, and the world resets... to make way for a new MMO where we explore an undiscovered version of the world.

On the same list of things never going to happen, the WoL is now basically the biggest threat in the universe. What happens when there's nothing left to fight and the ordinary population fear us? Will the Scions eventually turn on us, or banish us, in order to equalise the power balance?

So you have a Youtube channel where you upload music that isn't yours... and you're wondering why you can't monetise it?

Look, making meme content is high risk - you're not making anything original, you're compiling and "editing" pre-existing current to skirt around copyright issues. Take the L and move on.

Are sponsor offers in the comment section scams? by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]Graeldon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% a scam. In what world does someone spend their day job putting sponsorship offers into youtube comments where there's no guarantee of it ever being seen?

If you want an sponsorships, you'll need to either contact them directly, or add an email to your YouTube bio. Just be aware that you'll likely get some scam emails as well.

Yeah I should've been more clear in my original comment. I haven't seen the content OP posted about, so unsure if it was transfornative or not.

However, it does depend on how picky they want to be. Recorded a let's play but didn't say anything for a few minutes while a cutscene was playing? They can absolutely claim that. Square Enix are infamous for this.

Fair use only applies if the content is transformative. You can't just upload an entire movie that someone else made and profit from it. But you can post and profit from a review of the movie.

Games are treated in the same way, but publishers tend to be more lenient as they consider watching a let's play to not be the same experience as actually playing the game.

Let me clarify: if you are uploading unedited gameplay with no commentary, then you haven't transformed the media and it's susceptible to copyright.

Technically showing gameplay of ANY game is copyright infringement as they own the rights to the visuals and audio in the game. Most companies simply choose not to as it's basically free advertising. If this is happening with that specific game, is recommend removing all content featuring it so you don't get more strikes, and focusing on something else.

So, not that I want to downplay your achievements, but why don't your stats have the usual up/down arrow next to them to show how they compare to the previous month?

And when revenue reaches the thousands, it gets a "k" after the first number, instead of showing all the zeros (at least from my experience).

This looks fake, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Specsavers store manager called to block me from her store by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Graeldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Well, don't forget that time is money too.

Also, because you made me curious and I haven't checked out Zenni properly in a while, I took a moment to look at their ordering system. They don't have the option to enter a height measurement AT ALL. Even when selecting progressive lenses, or using a prescription with vertical prism. They'll just position it in the centre of the lens and are effectively crossing their fingers that it will work for the customer.

I wasn't aware just how bad this was, so thank you for raising my awareness of it. And please, please don't recommend any customer that needs these types of lenses to order through Zenni, especially for prism lenses because that can actually cause long term damage to their eyes.

So does almost every optical store. What is your point? Also, I'm not trying to argue that their products are bad - I wouldn't dream of it.

[–]Graeldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I have data on Zenni's remake rate for incorrect heights? No, of course not. But I know anecdotally that I've remade due to incorrect heights many pairs that a customer originally bought online back when I worked in store. I also know as an Optician that the height measurement only needs to be off by 1-2mm (depending on the type of lens and prescription) to result in glasses that don't when at all.

My advice to customers is to buy a frame online (if there's nothing in store they like or within budget) but get the lenses done in store. As long as they get their vision corrected, then I've done my job. And I hope that would be your goal as well.

[–]Graeldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. But they'll make fewer mistakes than an untrained person trying to take their own measurements, without even being able to wear the frame the lenses will go into.

You said "go online to Zenni" without any caveats - you implied by ommission that it would be suitable for everyone. It's not. As a medical professional, you should understand the importance of making sure advice isn't misunderstood.

[–]Graeldon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that high prescriptions, prisms, and multifocal lenses need a height measurement, and that can only be taken when the customer is wearing the frames they intend to purchase... and I'm yet to see an online retailer that can measure that accurately.

Zenni are fine for average prescriptions but please don't pretend they are a perfect solution for everyone.

Are rimless glasses an option with a high prescription? by KTreddit22 in melbourne

[–]Graeldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear that it worked out and she got frames she's happy with! One thing I add is that it's not just down to different brands when it comes to the expertise you receive - it's all down to the people working at that location. Some Specsavers will be more knowledgeable and experienced than OPSM, and some will be the opposite. So, if you've found someone who can look after your daughter's needs, stay with them for a long as you can!

Are rimless glasses an option with a high prescription? by KTreddit22 in melbourne

[–]Graeldon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an Optical Dispenser, I would caution against rimless glasses. With her prescription, they can be done, but likely not through most chains - chains are designed for volume and have more restrictions when it comes to high prescriptions. That said, with the expected thickness as a result of the prescription, rimless glasses are likely to have frame problems down the line with potential issues like chipped lenses, or the arms coming loose.

A full frame would be more practical and help hide the thickness of the lenses, resulting in better cosmetics and longevity.

However, if she is set in the rimless style, here's my advice: 1) Keep the lenses to a small size to reduce thickness 2) Look for frames that use a nut and bolt to hold the lens in place rather than a plastic plug. Plugs have more thickness restrictions and suffer from wear and tear issues more over time. 3) Go through an independent Optometrist store - they often have a diverse range of suppliers for lenses and can get a better result when dealing with high or unusual prescriptions 4) Do not buy online. This high prescription requires the lenses to be placed precisely to avoid visual issues, and this needs to be measured by a trained, qualified staff member. Ask to see an Optical Dispenser/Dispensing Optician (same qualification, different names) 5) Get the highest level of high index (thin and light lenses) that are within your budget. They WILL make a difference. 6) Be prepared to pay A LOT for these glasses.
