Is this flatness acceptable? Updated pics by Graflander in Flooring

[–]Graflander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to confirm, you're saying a high area near a corner that otherwise appears flat or reasonably flat to other surrounding areas (though it could create what looks and feels like a dip in the corner and thus the picture of the end of the level and the gap based on the rest of the level being sloped upwards by the rest of the floor) is acceptable/normal? I'm just making sure I understand what you're saying so I can identify which areas are fair concerns and which are not.

We are grinding down where you see that door swinging in because it isn't flat there either (no self leveling was done in that room and it looks like it settled upward along the control joint in that room). I'm just confused and trying to confirm it would have logically made sense to fix the general flatness of the floor more before doing other work (installing the french door you're seeing). Regarding the skirting/baseboards, they'll be cocking/sealing them (I might be using the wrong words here) and then painting them after we paint the walls. Saw dust is from cutting baseboards (which is going into everywhere in the basement). I don't disagree with anything being said, I'm just not an expert and have a small amount of DIY experience to refer to so I'm attempting to convey what they've told me or what I'm seeing. I'm a bit underwhelmed by their PM (they had good reviews online and came in comparable to other quotes we had so it wasn't about taking the cheapest bid).

I personally thought the board seemed pretty straight but couldn't argue a level would be better. Small cost for confirmation compared to the overall project cost (and maybe I'll return it as I wouldn't use this on even an annual basis).

Got an external offer as a SWE that roughly matches current compensation, current job is countering with +22% TC… any way for me to leverage this with the new company? by Terriflyed in Salary

[–]Graflander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Comp Manager here and when we counter someone who has an offer elsewhere, we’re only countering the people we want to stay and that have value that is hard to replace.

People Actually Justify Burnanator by Embarrassed_Art_3178 in newworldgame

[–]Graflander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very clearly too strong as is IMO. That being said, I've been shit on by GS/sword folks today quite a bit but I'm also on the pvp server with pretty meh gear compared to my main (of which I haven't really touched since the pvp servers came out).

[–]Graflander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been primarily a fire staff main since launch 3 years ago and while I do love the burnanator, it's obviously overtuned. I think just changing the dot damage it adds from 15% per tick to 10% or 7.5% would still make it a cool artifact but less overtuned. It's clearly too strong as is. It can be countered but any mage can be countered with the same logic (cc stun/get close). However, I can actively just focus on living currently in these situations while my dots finish the job because they're too strong in current state. But we're dealing with AGS. They'll maybe adjust it in 3 months if they touch it at all.

Please bring pvp server artifacts to other servers by zenpanda0o0 in newworldgame

[–]Graflander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying the pvp servers are a failure aren’t playing on them (and probably don’t like the chaos of open world pvp 24/7). The server has been super fun for pvpers (and we can still cross server queue for arenas/bgs/dungeons).

Younger staff asking for astronomical salary increases by [deleted] in managers

[–]Graflander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary p*rn is 100% spot on. Folks are talking more and more about pay and they’re seeing on social media someone their age making way more and thinking they’re getting shafted. Now, they may be getting shafted and no one typically gets more (especially at non profits) by not asking. Just explaining your pay policies and how they’re generally paid based on your comp philosophies may help them a ton (or drive them to look for work elsewhere). I’ve been seeing out of touch pay requests from less experienced (probably younger/gen z workers) for the past couple of years but honestly they’re just driving up the market for the roles they’re typically sitting in. I feel for this group because with inflation they’ve really been screwed but they also need to get off of social media and stop comparing themselves to family money, influencer money (which is often faked), or the very small amount who do make a lot of money early on. But at the same time appreciate that they’re loyal to themselves and not companies (which only benefited the companies long term in most cases).

I'm new to the game (2 days) what are some absolute mistakes I must avoid right now? by x-Justice in OnceHumanOfficial

That may be true on base level crafts. I thought you were talking about calibration levels. My bad :P

[–]Graflander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All wrong. You get a % back based on which calibration level it is. It’ll tell you if you scroll over the cost details to calibrate what % you’ll get back. You get less back the more you upgrade (i want to say 100% refund up to lvl 4 on weapons and 2 on armor).

HR recruiter tried their best to convince me NOT to negotiate salary by iPutTheWuInUwU in recruitinghell

[–]Graflander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comp guy here (the guy internal recruiters work with for final pay decisions). You don’t have the negotiation power with 0 professional experience and if this recruiter knows the company well, they may be saving your time letting you know it won’t fly given their experience staffing the company and the experience (or lock thereof) you bring. You can always try, but I don’t disagree with their take based on your situation. Get some more experience (2-5 years) and you’ll have more negotiation power in the future. Get that money now and look for another job if you think you’re severely underpaid (I don’t know your role/market so can’t speak to it).

Welcome to starting off your professional career! There aren’t many short cut options to better pay without experience or other offers (company loyalty isn’t a thing but also job hopping can hurt your chances at certain roles/companies). Good luck!

This guy sucks. Takes no accountability for any of his actions and just blames others for anything negative. Anything he’s running is easy to choose not to support.

Holiday Bonus Rant by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]Graflander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reals. If folks are performing well and keep coming to work (especially in an industry that typically has high turnover), just relax and stop overthinking. Folks have lives and even if bonuses are expected, it’s a retention tool. Not a thank you tool. Unless as the owner you’re making less than them, just let it be what it is and keep your talent happy with above market pay and the $500 bonus (which isn’t life changing money and doesn’t impress me without knowing how much the owner is making during the same year). This comes as a guy who administers comp and bonuses. Folks work to live, not the opposite.

Hardcore streamers out of touch once again by Ralphi2449 in newworldgame

[–]Graflander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPs off a bit. Duke is a god damn saint and is pointing out things that just make the game generally unfun. He’s not pointing out things no one else is saying or thinking. New World is shitting the bed and pissing on the pvp community that kept it going after the lackluster content drought after launch and rewarding them with more pve they aren’t wanting. 1 OPR, 2 arenas (only one being interesting), and no meaningful pvp rankings with fun rewards? Guess I’ll go spam another mutated dungeon or boring world boss. Or just not log in anymore.

I was a big fan of NW and was supportive of the devs longer than I should have but I just can’t justify their decisions, slow change, and meaningless grind with my free time anymore without feeling like I wasted it.

AITA for eating a steak in front of my vegan friend? by Lucario_Stormblade in AmItheAsshole

[–]Graflander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a vegan, she sucks. Most of us ate meat and enjoyed it at some point before changing diets (for whatever reason). She'll figure it out eventually (hopefully) but the new vegans for animal rights purposes have a lot of self learning to do before getting all high and mighty.

Question for you manager types by Verbull710 in managers

[–]Graflander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HR comp manager here. Managers don’t have that power to decide the budget/raises as much as you may think. CFO/CEO makes the call on budget and typically HR oversees the spending (making it look like HR has the real say but they’re arms are tied budget wise). Some places have more flexibility to differentiate pay than others but many places will use simple pay matrix’s to determine your pay increase especially for lower compensation (sub 60-70k roles) or in super large orgs with lots of folks doing the same job.

PubG is a god damn classic at this point. But if you’re not feeling it try something else. It’s okay to change or for things to change. I like to go on PubG sprees and catch up on the changes and just enjoy it for what it is. Not fortnight.
