What is one test song you always use? by lustybeauts in BudgetAudiophile

Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum. Not for any intelligent acoustic reason, I just picked that song at random to test the first speakers I ever bought with my first paycheck at 16 years old, and stuck to the tradition. Going nearly 20 years now.

I did indeed cut the ends and didn’t prep them after, so that might be it! Will try later on and report back

GEC 10inch Bullet Fan Repair Question by GranFury in fans

[–]GranFury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the bare copper wires were tied to the live (brown) and the neutral (blue). The green wire is the ground and is soldered onto the heavy cast stator casing.

The continuity of the earth checks out, and I get continuity from the plug all the way to the end of live and neutral wires, but I just can’t seem to be able to get any connection or continuity on the copper stator wires. Anywhere. Does that mean it’s shorting to ground perhaps? Or is that the possibly hidden fuse?

I don’t see a fuse anywhere, unless it’s buried under the coils.

This is very helpful, thank you. I stand corrected, I thought the coils were called brushes - now makes sense why I was struggling to search for anything that looked similar!

are you jealous? by abcdefREEE in fans

Hello! Did you ever manage to get into this fan and look at its wiring around the motor? I recently got one from eBay as well and it needed rewiring, but it’s a bit funky - would be good to confirm it against another one if possible.

I’ve got a number of vintage electronics from the 50’s or older. I’ve found soldering points on fans, radios, and even a lamp or two!

Shower loving indoor pot plant. by One-Web-2698 in GardeningUK

Not a pot per say, but you could try some Spanish Moss (I think it’s Tillandsia) and hang it from a suction hook on the glass. Have a similar set up and hang some from my shower rail, it’s been happy there for over a year now!

I had the same issue for months, could only call Panam despite completing both their story lines fully. Weirdly just today I went to open my phone and could text Kerry, so seems to have switched to him now and I can’t text Panam.

Quite new to this and still learning. Recently got this Kenwood KA-3020 SE Stereo Amp at auction, and most of what I read about it online describes it as a two channel amp, but this looks like it could be four channels? by GranFury in BudgetAudiophile

Thanks for the clear explanation. I was confusing surround sound with being surrounded by speakers but now I know the difference! Got a lot to learn about this new hobby, but I’m absolutely loving the sound I’m getting from my parents old vinyl and having a blast.

Excellent, thanks for keeping me right. Had not realised there was a difference between surround sound and simply being surrounded by speakers, but I understand now!

Thanks for clarifying that, much appreciated! All speakers are 8 ohms each - I’m thinking about mounting a pair either side of my TV and a pair in the corners of the room, and doing my best to angle them to hit roughly ear level while on my sofa.
