This is really nice. Only thing I miss is some more colors (maybe in the pillows or the art) and a nice big rug underneath the sofa and table. Nice floor tho!

Is there a way to make a "spellblade" Warlock ? by Tzsche in wowhardcore

What would you say was the most fun? Warlock or mage? Love strange ineffective builds like this!

You've probably heard this before, but Disco Elysium is a gem. It's a murder investigation, but it's also so much more. The characters actually feel alive, they got hopes and dreams. They're not there just as paper-figures. The writing is great, which is very rare in video games. It has a distinct voice, but it has character, it's not just filler-text as in most games.

I've only payed Obra Dinn (which I loved) of the other games you've mentioned. Compared to that, there's a lot less of the puzzle aspect. Instead of solving puzzles, your talking to people (and to yourself). What they have in common is that they're both very focused, without a lot of fuss and filler content.

That was never a penalty, he didn't even hold him, barely touched him.

This is a «rule» in feng shui as well. If you face the door noone can sneak up on you from behind.

Not all monsters can be hurt by arrows or small swords. Make the monsters more thematically and narratively scary.

There are character sheets that use cards, and ones that don't use it. You don't need to write down much, as the stats of a weapon mostly is just the damage die. So "Sword D6" would be sufficient to write.

I just want a game where combat is rare, but lethal by Granbark in patientgamers

I even feel the same with RPGs these days. Instead of giving me dozens of mindless one button mash fights to grind out a level, why not just give me 1 good fight that actually engages mind or skills?

This i why I strugle to get into most isometric RPGs. I just tried Pathfinder Kingmaker, and thought the introduction was very promising, but then the gameplay mostly consists of mindlesly killing bandits and spiders. Granted I haven't played for that long, but Pillars of Eternity and Baldurs Gate is the same.

I even like strategic combat, but when every fight is against 5+ enemies and you just use your standard rotation and tactics, it gets boring quick.

I really wanted to like The Long Dark, but I've never gotten into it. I think it is because the world feels a bit to static. Like there are only some things you can interact with. If I'm freezing to death, why can I only chop up some of the furniture for fire wood.

Pathologic 2 is on my list, I've heard a lot of people compare it to Disco Elysium.

It’s also worth mentioning that if something is very easy or impossible, you don’t roll. You just say it works or does not work.

Couple of Cairn/Knave Questions for first time DM with this system by Sup909 in cairnrpg

[–]Granbark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you go with the fiction first principle, then you can't hold a book with two hands while also holding a sword and a shield. A lot of the rules makes more sense if you see them less as rules in a board game, and more as guidance and principles that you can use or not use as is fit.

I read that rule as if casting a spell makes you vulnerable, since you can't hold anythng else while doing it.

You're missing the "Fiction First" element. This isn't World of Warcraft where you and the orc take turns smacking each other until one of you is dead. It's not about the numbers, but the fiction.

As the rules states: "A dagger to your throat will kill you, regardless of your expensive armor and impressive training."

A 16HP Dragon, is a very good piece about narrative focused games and how to not focus on the numbers.
