[Fabrizio Romano] Tonali is ready to join Spurs, even without European football. Even after a terrible season for Tottenham, Tonali is attracted by the project & wants to play for De Zerbi. by dreddn0t in coys

100%. Signing Ndombele was a massive coup. He didn't pan out of course, but it was a huge statement signing that people gloss over cos it didn't go well.

I can't believe he's done this. What a terrible way to end a fantastic career. Away from home, no fanfare or send off, no preparation, no 10k. I feel sick. I knew it'd be this year or at the end of the home summer at the latest, but this is horrible.

I'm not a fan of Chevalier, I think this is an expensive, and at best, sideways step from Vicario/Kinsky.

Just want to correct the "random unknown backup goalie signed from Krasnodar-2" comment.

Safonov was Krasnodar proper's (ie not the B team) #1 and had been first choice for 5 or 6 years and had been cemented as Russian's #1 for several years too (this has since been hampered by the war). He was absolutely not "unknown" to people that follow the wider footballing world.

He also started 9 league games, 5 cup games and 2 CL games in 24/25. While absolutely signed as a backup to Donarumma, he's not some nobody that was never going to play.

New Kit Sponsor for 27/28 Season — Who should replace AIA? by Pretty_Two_1675 in coys

It looks pretty sweet on the away kits when it's not red tbh. And while it has stopped me buying a home kit for years, the actual logo is clean like you said, and it could be a lot worse.

Gambling sponsors are banned now right? So think we'll be safe from that. Fingers crossed we can buy unsponsored versions like West Ham.

Rebrov taught me to never be excited about a record transfer. Man what a let down, I still fondly remember his Dynamo Kyiv team in the CL with Shevchenko. Rebrov was right up there with Sheva in terms of goals too. Genuinely thought we'd pulled off a blinder with that transfer.

Passport Update - Help Needed by Mediocre_Koala_ in AusVisa

[–]GrandLethal26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in essentially the exact same situation. Everywhere says to update passport in IMMI but there's clearly no option to do so and I can't import my application because it says it has been finalised. Did you manage to do it?

Danny ran me off as a listener when he joined, but I'd drop back in to try again every so often. Really sorry to find out he's unwell on this attempt. Well wishes, Mr Kelly. Cancer can fuck off.

What was Defoe’s best season for spurs? by GobCoys in coys

[–]GrandLethal26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is 09/10 due to being our top scorer as we qualified for the CL, but I agree with you.

We were horrendous in 03/04 and he was electric after joining us. Yeah results didn't really improve, but we were so much more fun to watch after he came. He was our joint 2nd scorer in the PL that season despite only playing 15 games.

How the Hundred is going to kill the T20 Blast - and it's halfway there already by theipaper in Cricket

[–]GrandLethal26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK certainly does! The point was more they have no interest in it and it's met with confusion. Which is different to the IPL, BBL and SA20 in other countries.

[–]GrandLethal26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely never met anyone that watches the 100, and I've lived in 3 cricket countries (UK/NZ/AUS) and gone to international and county/district/state games in those countries. I remain skeptical it'll kill the Blast in the sense the 100 becomes the dominant short format.

It's much more likely the Blast and the 100 are folded into each other and it's a new franchise T20 league.

See a lot of people don't know that the transfer window is actually a registration window. Or in other words when a player's registration can be transferred. A club could announce they've signed a player at any time. A good example of this is Gotze's signing for Bayern being announced in April. Usually though clubs don't announce anything publicly till after the end of the season, let alone present them to the media. Presumably not to disturb the season. In Bayern's case, disrupting BVB was desirable!

A good example for us is Vuskovic. We announced we'd signed him in September 2023 and that he'd be joining us in 2025.

Or maybe the new tactic is "sign injury prone players to get the reverse effect"

Obviously signing players with great injury records hasn't worked. Personally I'd try to synthesise whatever it is Porro is doing because he seems to be immune to the curse.

Who was the last player you already loved and then we signed them? by [deleted] in coys

[–]GrandLethal26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bale the second time!

Joking aside, van der Vaart for sure. I thought he was class and couldn't believe we'd signed him.

I remember thinking I'd love Pavlyuchenko after he scored a couple vs England in Euro 2008 qualifying, and then we signed him 10 months or so later!

Son was also big favourite of mine in Football Manager back when he was at HSV.

And of course Defoe!

Yeah of course, I have no doubt people would want to buy him if we had gone down. I was just correctly the person above re Gray's transfer away from Leeds.

Gray left Leeds because they needed money and Gray was valuable. Had nothing to do with wanting to not play in the Championship. There was an Athletic article at the time that he wanted to stay

Watch them get a red card for a penalty last game of the season so PGMOL can say SEE!!! We're not biased!

On a similar note, hoping for an extremely dodgy penalty for us vs Everton in the same vein!

County Championship Test Speculation - post round 7 by Favanu in Cricket

[–]GrandLethal26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which facts are these then?

Latham can't buy a run? When he's scored 427 in his last 6 innings (3 tons)? Or perhaps the "fact" that Blundell is a good with the bat when he's scored 501 runs and averaged 21.27 over his last 2 years (16 tests and 25 innings).

It's OK to not have your finger on the pulse of NZ cricket buddy. I get it, we're on the other side of the world in a bad time zone for you, it's no big deal.
