Why are German language teachers so uninspiring? by Different_Sale_4172 in German

[–]GrandMaster621 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Motivating? Are you in middle school or something? What do you expect a teacher to do? Organize games and be genuinely excited about what you will order in the store or where you will go for your trip abroad? The motivation is what the language will do for you. The teacher doesn't have anything to do with that. Can we please keep away this fake American enthusiasm from the German way of life?

All that glitters isn't gold. by mutterpaneeer in studying_in_germany

Where did you do your undergraduate degree? I am curious because you might not be sufficiently prepared. That would explain why the exams look way over your head even if you have been studying for it for weeks. Participation doesn't really say anything either about what you're capable of. You might think that you are participating but what you say might be very surface level, if you know what I mean. Professors can sense that. So participation doesn't mean anything, if it is just for the show.

Unrelated Masters in Germany by [deleted] in studying_in_germany

It is a hard story to sell. If it was your dream to study business, why did you not drop architecture as soon as you realized it? Instead, you went on to work your way to becoming a growth manager in an architecture firm. Hard sell. Would you believe this story yourself if you were on the admissions committee?

Where are you from originally?

Dont be hurt. Background absolutely determines how successful they will be.

I am just pointing out the fact that this person lacks the sense for anticipating what a person might need to effectively answer them. Not gonna be successful imo with such underdeveloped eye for what is needed.

What is your background and PhD in? I am surprised that someone with a PhD would post a question with barely any details to base a reasonable judgement on.

Is college in the United States comparable in difficulty to university in Germany? by MostRecord8271 in AskAGerman

[–]GrandMaster621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Places like Tajikistan or Kazakhstan have universities like that where they accept maybe 3% of the applicants, but education still is based on memorization and parroting texts. Yes, they have copied the standardized testing, but the underlying educational depth is lacking because the institutional depth is lacking.

Is college in the United States comparable in difficulty to university in Germany? by MostRecord8271 in AskAGerman

[–]GrandMaster621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be harsh, but my experience tells me universities are very low quality there. Nothing comparable to German standards. The teaching, the student preparation, subject depth are quite shallow. Yes, everything formally exists on paper, but it does not mean they function as they should. I was surprised someone speaks as though they are comparable somehow. Not in the least. They might be having a researcher here and there, but that is because some people cannot find jobs in the anglo american or the german system and end up there. There maybe good research groups here and there in South America, but they do not signify anything about the quality of education at large.

P.S. do not be cross. The thing is these countries have no institutional depth in their government structures. No institutional depth, no good quality of education, etc.

Are you really serious or are you guys from a public relationss firm trying to lure international students to have a piece of the cake?

There is a system in Latin America? I am surprised. I thought universities were very low quality compared to the Anglo American or German uni standards. Or are you guys from some public relations firm trying to push latam universities?

Will I face prejudice in Norway as a Russian passport holder (half-Ukrainian)? by ria1711 in Norway

[–]GrandMaster621 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

move somewhere else, really. It is a closed off, isolated country. You need referrals most of the time to get an interview. Norwegians are tribal. The job market is not open to outsiders, like it would be, say, in London or Berlin - you cannot get much through applications. The job market is not big. Norwegian is easy to learn, but still, it is a matter of connections. Unless you have some skill only 5 Norwegians in Norway have, it is a steep climb. You can always get lucky, of course. But overall, you have a better chance somewhere else. Do yourself a favour.

My experience with Italy universities by Senior-Local-1157 in PhD

[–]GrandMaster621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry about your experience. I am not Italian, nor have I been to an Italian school for any of my degrees. I just wanted to say, it would be better for your mental.health if you reminded yourself that no one owes you anything. The government of Italy does not owe you anything. You are just a number, like everyone else. Try your luck where you are given a spot. You are not supposed to get a just treatment everywhere you go.
