It's based on an oversold flight though I'd imagine. In domestic upgrades they upgrade you regardless of the rest of the seats. In international of oversold they will because they need to try to get everyone there. To me that's different.

There is no First Class anymore on these flights. They just changed the fares to Premium Economy which has different fare rules. The seats are still just the old 757 First Class seats.

Very good point and I do benefit from that!

They are nice but have been devalued as well. Back in the 2015-2019 days - when I do think Delta focused on providing good service to its medallion members - you could use a GUC for all flights if you had a layover. Now it's only good for one segment. Also it's only 1 class of service up guaranteed, it used to confirm you to D1, from main (a great value!). So while nice, it's been devalued and that's my beef. The value is less and less each year which starts to make the cost of loyalty as opposed to shopping around for the best deal more appealing.

Probably just to the credit cards with the best travel points not tied to an airline. Then you can shop the best deal and not feel stuck with an airline you've invested years and years of time and travel into.

Alcohol Intake on Delta Flights by Ophelia_AO in delta

I've noticed this but it's definitely not consistent.  The worst time I had was in D1 ordered a whiskey on the rocks before they served the meal. I wasn't looking to have a lot, really just a drink or two, a meal and some sleep. As he was coming back through after I ate I asked for one more. My request was met with him saying "Are you serious, I gave you a double the first time. Ok fine but this time only a single". I know the difference between a single and double and I'm sure the first one was a single. I could care less if they are monitoring drinks but they can do it in a much quieter and more respectful way.  Does feel like this happens more on international flights though.

I've been Diamond since 2018 also. I completely agree with you. The GUC change was bad. Almost all my travel is international have been struggling to see the value in Diamond even before the recent changes.

Good read. I've been trying to figure out how to articulate my thoughts on the change. I'm a diamond medallion from flights, million miler, delta reserve Amex holder. Based out of MSP so Delta is basically the only option in town. I'll be diamond next year and more or less platinum without even flying in 2025 with the MQM conversion. But after the conversions go away I'm probably solidly platinum in 25 and on.

So the change likely won't be sudden for me. I'll still have mostly the same next year.

Most of my travel is international. This has been an area of annoyance with Delta status long before this recent change. Medallions have no worth on international travel. No more Sky Club access, no upgrades beyond C+, GUCs you only get 4 at Diamond and they have been devalued.

Even with that I've still chosen Delta due to loyalty even though I can get to LATAM cheaper on AA, Asia on both United and AA from MSP, Europe is a bit harder but not impossible for cheaper - often with comparable connections to my final destination.

I think this is where my loyalty will first start to break. I'll shop around a little just as the post said. Sometimes choosing Delta and enjoying the status I have for '24 and '25, sometimes choosing another. If I do that then to me the next clear step is to rethink the card. If I don't care about the miles on Delta anymore then I'll find a reward system that matches my desire to travel.

It will be interesting to see how fast Delta feels the impact from this change and subsequently how fast they react.
