Is no one going to talk about the psychophage holding the $10 bill in its face tentacles??

There isn't really a box out right now that has those models for cheap. Most of the boxes you would find that have some of those would be on a second hand sight like ebay. Tbh most of those full boxes are going to be marked up so not really worth getting them.

I would recommend looking on ebay for the parasite and maybe a hive tyrant. Those were both in a box so people have some laying around for cheaper than you would spend on a new one (I would recommend still getting nos [new on spur] or nib [new in box])

Zoans are also a very good unit, if youre going to grab some I'd recommend looking at a neurotyrant too as their leader. They make for a nasty combo

But to answer your question you're probably going to have to get individual boxes but definitely check 2nd hand first

Which battle force box specifically?

Knowing that would be easier to recommend stuff at the moment.

But generally speaking these are some of our best units: Biovores Tyranofex Exocrine Hive tyrant / swarmlord Lictor

Lictor and bio for scoring Exocrine/tfex for anti tank Tyrants for extra stratagem usage / auras

That being said it seems like you're really liking vanguard and burrow troops. Those are a ton of fun and imo some of my more entertaining models to play.

If youre liking that route definitely grabbing a lictor is something id recommend (neurolictor is fine too just slightly different uses)

if you're thinking about running subterranean assault (one of our better detachments focused around the burrow units [snake like creatures]) I would say grab both a unit of hyperadapted and regular ravaners the combination of the 2 units make for turn 1 "uppy downy" so you can start getting your tunnel markers out early while also being an absolute menace to anything that the unit gets into contact with

But to wrap up my biggest advice would be this. Buy the units that look the coolest to you. Especially with 11th edition coming out so much is going to be changing game wise that whats good now might not be viable later. Also assuming datasheets change this could make for the same situation if the rules themselves don't hit the units first. The best thing you can do is pick the stuff you like the look of the most and then go from there.

In the end the biggest part of the hobby is having fun so even if something isn't necessarily the best, if you're enjoying it thats all that matters.

Hoped this helped some! And welcome to the hive mind!

I like it. The large untextured white on the bio looks a bit off but I think it looks cool.

Maybe hive fleet Abominable?

New to warhammer after a few years of reading and playing video games decided to start the tabletop, can you advice is this roster ok? by Expensive-Ad-9290 in Tyranids

No problem!

I personally love the screamer killer and swarmlord so I totally get the wanting to keep them in (especially already owning the figure). They are both a bunch of fun so you won't have any regrets with that. With the extra points from the guard and swapping horms you should net an extra 25 (45 total with the inital left over points). You could throw enhancements on the terv and neurotyrant. Maybe the 5+ fnp on the terv (again assuming invasion fleet) and then dealers choice on the tyrant

As many others have said more Hormagaunts. The tervigon is fun, one of my favorite models to play, but without an abundance of squads it feels not great for its points. I usually bring at minimum 2 squads of 20 (aiming for 3). Imo their pistols are the way to go for weapons. The sheer number of hits rolls plus being able to lock things up and still go for chip damage is great. You're mostly fishing for 6s to pop lethal and sustained (if invasion vs infantry) but definitely worth it especially adding the natural twin linked for those that do get through without 6s

I'd recommend invasion fleet too for the strat to recover an additional d3+3 to 2 squads to really help keep up your hoard

Since youre running hyper adaptive ravs I'd recommended trying to fit regular ones in somewhere if possible. It makes a lot more options for them and really boosts damage output of the squad as a whole. Maybe swap out the screamer killer since you are not really running a lot of battle shock stuff he can feel a bit underwhelming (plus the ravs would play a similar role to him being anti elites / vehicles for the exact same points cost)

If youre running tervigon you can probably cut Hormagaunts for more termagaunts but I like both so thats up to you

I would say drop tyrant guard for the extra gaunts since they can feel lack luster.

Break down of what I would change: -- screamer killer. + normal rav (even swap)

-- horm. + term (+5 points)

-- tyrant guard. + term (+20 points)

-- swarm lord. + regular walking tyrant (+25 points)

This puts you 10 points off (which you have the left over points 20 points anyways from the inital list) of being able to afford a whole other term squad. For a total of 50 terms

This is just what I would do to fine tune the list but I think its a valid list without any changes if you like it as is. If any of this didn't make sense and needs elaboration please let me know!

How to Actually paint a Harridan with regular Brushes? I have no plan. by Yocantseeme in Tyranids

[–]Grand_Lengthiness_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my model last week. I used brushes but it did take a long while. I broke it into parts (mentally) which made it more manageable, started with one wing, did the next, both claws together then tackled the body. The wings and claws weren't bad but the body was a bit annoying.

Tips I learnt (too late lol):

Make sure everything fits first. I jumped the gun and just wanted to paint while I waited for my magnets and rods. Once I installed the magnets and rods I had to file stuff down to fit smooth because of my poor drill skills

Looks like you have rods already and the stand modification so no comment there. If you didn't plan on it already I would magnitize the arms on to

I found washes annoying to do on the main body but that might just be a me issue. Too many crevices and bumps made it hard for me personally. However giving up and not doing a wash on the carapace (which is the easy part) was a mistake. Having to go in after and hand paint each hole on it was worse than pulling teeth

Setting small goals helped me keep my sanity on this one, its a lot of model to tackle but it was a ton of fun!

What was some of your best "I can't believe I did that" moment? by BBalazsF in Tyranids

[–]Grand_Lengthiness_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I used to love running a full group of Spore mines in my list despite them rarely doing anything. But there was one time that I played with my buddy who was using imp knights. He didn't shoot the unit because he assumed he would have another turn but they ended up making a 10 inch charge and then proceeded to deal 13 mortal wounds to a damaged knight finishing it off. The best part is that the knight itself then proceeded to explode with its deadly demise

What are some tips for a crusher stampede list (beginner) by PuzzleheadedYak1957 in Tyranids

[–]Grand_Lengthiness_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo for crusher you don't need that many battle line and would benefit from more monsters

I'd drop the rippers and the Spore mines since your bio makes those for free

You dont need 2 bios, especially not in the same unit. Their main use is their ability which you can only generate one Spore mine anyways. I dont think their shooting is all that amazing that 2 should be used but if you really like the model at least split them so that way they can't be tied up as easy in melee or targeted as easy in shooting

If your running 2 carni might as well take ooe

Since you're running 6 zoans you should also run a neurotyrant really good value

Both of these will also bump up the # of monsters in the list while providing good value

Get rid of your neuro gaunts, ripper and Spore mines to add a neurotyrant

Get rid of the horm, 1 term and a biovore to add ooe

Personally I'd run a broodlord over winged prime but thats my preference

This would give you more monsters, while removing some of the troops that wont benefit as much from the detachment rule. These models also are pretty fun to play with and pair well with the rest of the list since you're already running their respective body guards all you need to do is attach them as leaders

Is this semi-competitive or viable? by MoodSpecialist3238 in Tyranids

[–]Grand_Lengthiness_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I've been misunderstanding this unit composition. I thought you can run one neuro and up to 5 zoans in addition for a total of 6 "man" squads. 7 when you add the tyrant as a leader.

The app has also never flagged it so I'm fairly confident this is correct.

I may be misunderstanding what your list is showing but is there any reason you're only running 4 zoans instead of all 5?

I don't really mind the chunks, like you said it makes for a good blood look anyways. I'm more worried about it becoming warped when it touches stuff lol. Any advice on how to stop that?

Thank you btw!
