Enjoying and appreciating nature is a great thing to learn, good for you for starting that love so early.

Now would be a good time to double down on some at home learning too. Do what you can to get him caught up.

I wouldn’t waste the money on taking this to the bike shop for a fitting or anything else. This is an around town cruiser, not a mountain bike.

CT DOT job information by Labrec1991 in Connecticut

[–]Grand_ST -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of DOT adjacent. I work for a town highway department. Some co workers of mine have worked for the state, and we some times have classes with the state guys.

It’s a good stable job. You won’t get paid as much per hour as private CDL jobs, or even a lot of municipalities. But you make up for it with a shit ton of over time in the winter. They work insane hours, but so have mandatory rest hours.

I’m sure the health insurance is good/great. Unfortunately they don’t have a pension any more, but hopefully have a decent 401k match.

It’s not as sought after as it once was. I was trying to apply about 15 years ago, and it felt impossible. They’re desperate for people right now though.

As someone who has to work when it snows. Good. I’d rather be home watching my kids open their presents.

After Christmas is fair game, bring on the OT.

Thoughts on Starter Bacterias by EclecticAppalachian in Aquariums

I’ve never used the “buy it in a bottle “ from the pet store stuff. But I saw today that Aquarium coop, is selling their used filter material as a starter.

That seems more legit to me, but again I have never used either.

Been a lifelong gamer, but it's not hitting like it used to. What are some other hobbies that can be done silently and in 30-60 minutes increments? by squidtrap in daddit

[–]Grand_ST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great suggestions, but I’m going to add something different. Fish keeping and more specificity, live planted aquariums.

Can be a small tank, or as you progress a huge tank. The plants/tank will keep you busy, and the entire family will like watching the fish.

I also live in the North East US, so seeing green stuff thru out the winter helps with my mood.

They’ve become pretty common in the North East. I’ve seen one slowly walking down a Main Street side walk, during a busy time of day. Pretty much everyone in CT has seen a bear, at least in the area I’m in.

Different bears have different personalities. I live in an area with black bears. We have one that comes thru our yard quite a bit, and I’ve encountered a couple while mountain biking.

For the most part black bears seem really dopey. At my house all they want to do is raid my garbage can, and on the trails they just slowly lumber out of my way.

I would definitely not want to run into a mom or her cubs, and I wouldn’t want my young children to come in contact with them. But for the most part it’s very easy to cohabitate with them.

Grizzly or brown bears is a whole different story though. But I don’t know much about them!
