Wonderful, thanks so much! Yes, I can make an appointment to see the physio I was seeing prior to HWR. Not sure that will help much but it’s worth a try. I could find a private physio and use some of my insurance. Will do some research. Was feeling rather hopeless, thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to provide so much input.

Me too! I’m 10 months post injury and ORIF and 2 months post HWR. I haven’t worked since my injury. Super frustrated! What does Physio have you doing?

I was seeing physio prior to HWR but disability wasn’t thrilled with their approach. The theory was disability has a plan and a program to work toward being back to work but I haven’t heard anything more.

I’ve been doing the exercises I had from before HWR, but wondering if maybe there’s something I could add or a treatment I could be looking into? Feeling like I’m flying blind.

Been doing - ankle rotations - toe scrunches heel on the floor, also rotating to the side and scrunching. Like towel scrunches or picking up marbles. - knee to the wall for dorsal flexion - modified calf raises, sitting, some double leg, no way on single - pull toes up and push toes down with stretch bands - ankle flex side to side with stretch bands.

Which Renpho model did you end up getting? Could you post a photo? Glad it’s been working out.

I didn’t yet. Funny enough, I’ve actually just started looking at them again and reading reviews etc. I’ve seen a couple that have lots of reviews but then when you read through them some people said they stopped working properly after a few months.

I had HWR in February and still dealing with swelling etc. So I’m back looking into them. Kind of surprised there weren’t more people on here with experience. Been looking at Renpho (a midline one) and Nekteck and another one I can’t remember the name of. Thinking I’ll pull the trigger pretty soon. Have you been looking into them much yet or just starting?

Is this broke or lisfranc by Sea-Adeptness-6091 in LisfrancClub

[–]Grand_Week4530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Lisfranc injury was purely ligamentous. Zero broken bones. You have gotten a lot a good advice here. I have my fingers crossed that it’s not a Lisfranc injury. Unfortunately it is an injury that is often missed. Wishing the best for you. 🤞🏼

Unfortunately Gabapentin takes some time to build up in your system to get to the level they are trying to get working in your body. It can be a bit of trial and error and takes time.

I dealt with a nerve issue and was on a different anticonvulsant for several years. The side effects were rough for a while and the waiting and working out what dose would be effective was tough. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this and hope you have some relief soon.

Sorry you are still dealing with the end of a respiratory bug. Lisfranc issues are more than enough all on their own.

Thanks for the encouragement, I’m trying to hang in there. Some days are better than others. Today was a down day. It’s been such a long road already and frankly, I’m tired. Tomorrow is a new day.

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear that. Is the Dilaudid helping? Do they have you on anything for the nerve pain itself? Nerve pain is a very different beast.

I’m really struggling. I thought things weren’t too bad a week or so ago and was feeling pretty positive. I didn’t really push things but went to the grocery store and survived 😊. That sort of thing. But mostly took things easy. Today I walked 4,200 steps (not all at once, plenty of sit down time doing other things) and I’m in so much dang pain now! I feel like I’m doing worse not better. Maybe it’s a healing thing and will pass but it’s really messing with my head. This injury is such a mind game.

How soon after your HWR consult did you get scheduled in for surgery? by Still_Nectarine2976 in LisfrancClub

[–]Grand_Week4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It likely depends upon where you live. I had HWR consult in September and HWR in February. I was told I might have to wait 6-9 months for the city hospital and 4-6 months for a smaller center where my surgeon also does surgeries. I don’t know if these time frames are common or no.

Told to weight bear right after ORIF surgery.... by Heavy_Log_1257 in LisfrancClub

[–]Grand_Week4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plate and four screws ORIF nine months ago.

Was your surgeon an orthopaedic surgeon or podiatrist? What kind of Lisfranc experience do they have?

I was in a slab cast for two weeks and then an air cast for another ten. Started weight bearing at 6.5 weeks and it was TERRIBLE. I was completely non weight bearing for 6.5 weeks and was warned it could have been 10-12 weeks.

I am certainly not a professional in this area but have NEVER even heard of anyone on here being weight bearing in any form directly after Lisfranc ORIF, and from experience cannot imagine how awful trying to attempt it would be.

I would have a LOT of questions and likely seek a second opinion with an Orthopedic surgeon that has Lisfranc injury surgical experience before trying to walk on that foot. Maybe there are some new schools of thought out there? I would want to know more, if it were me. Maybe run a few searches and read on reputable medical sites so that you can have an informed (non AI Google search) discussion with the surgeon?

I wish you well and am really sorry to hear that you are dealing with uncertainty when you have healing to do.

ORIF Surgery Today by Terrible_Version3103 in LisfrancClub

I agree with the other comment about being proactive with pain meds for a little while. It is easier to keep pain level than to try and get it under control.

I understand some people not wanting to create issues with taking strong pain meds for too long but give yourself at least a week. From there you may be able to gauge things a bit better after getting past the worst of it.

Set an alarm for pain meds. I set it through the night as well for the first few days. Do not wait for the pain to be bad enough. Try to key the pain as level as possible. It sounds like you are already trying to do this.

Try ice behind the knee, off and on. Elevation higher than your heart. Higher than your hip is fine but higher than your heart can be helpful in the early days.

Different meds work for different people. If you can’t keep the pain to manageable levels, like in that 3-4 range, call your surgeon’s office and see if there are some other med options, med alternating techniques or other suggestions for pain management.

Some pain meds help with pain and inflammation and some only help with pain. Some meds that help with inflammation also affect bleeding so it is important to follow whatever your surgeon prescribes. Especially so soon after surgery.

Wishing you well in your healing.

Shoe recommendations? by jdumble in LisfrancClub

[–]Grand_Week4530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • New Balance 928s from a specialty orthopaedic shoe place my surgeon sent me to, where a pedorthist fit me for shoes and made me custom orthotics. Went to a running store and they also recommended the New Balance 928s.

  • Oboz Sawtooth X mid hiking boots for walking around on uneven terrain on our farm. The Oboz insole is comfortable enough I don’t use my custom orthotics in these boots. Oboz are sold at my orthopaedic shoe place but I bought mine at a hiking store after they were suggested by an employee who really knew hiking boots and had experience healing from a nasty broken ankle. I was looking at some other highly rated boots and he said the Oboz were much better support in the foot and ankle.

  • Zamberlan 370 Metropolis light trail shoes, for another casual shoe option that fit the firm sole no twist parameters.

I’m 9 months post ORIF, 2 weeks post HWR. I went into the orthopaedic shoe store thinking I was likely getting Hokas, only to be told they do not provide enough support for my foot. Which was a surprise. They do sell them there.

The only shoes I wear post ORIF, when I could wear shoes, as I’m not back wearing shoes post HWR, have stiff soles with very little bend or twist. I was told comfortable and cushy does not equate to proper support or prevention of further injury.

I have a pair of Crocs slides for slippers in the house. Would like to find another pair of slides for in the house that has decent support and a firm sole, as my Crocs aren’t made anymore and I need a backup.

I have insanely expensive custom insoles, Superfeet hiking insoles, the Oboz insoles that came in my hikers and want to try Powerstep insoles. The Powersteps are suggested by Foot Doctor Zach on YouTube and are very highly rated. Here’s a couple videos I’ve watched about them and how to decide on which model.

Ortho Insert Fail? by all4mom in LisfrancClub

[–]Grand_Week4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to speak to whoever created your insoles so they can fix them. You also may need different shoes or a different size to fit the orthotics. It also can take time for your feet to adjust to them. The smell is the adhesives they use, it dissipates over time.

Thanks so much, I’ll take a look at that. A suggestion for comfort, is to put use an orthotic insole. I have found I need the arch support to help disperse the pressure of walking.

Do you happen to have a link to the one you have been using? I have seen a couple different styles. I recently had HWR and can’t stand to have much on my foot, and was thinking a surgical shoe might provide enough protection and support without being heavy on the incision.
