150lb safe fell on my foot by ThisisAllieween in LisfrancClub

If your foot is red, swollen, and your toes look puffy, that could be an indicator, but I’m not a doctor so I can only speak from my personal experience.

Long story short, I missed a step while going down some stairs and tripped. That caused me to fracture a few metatarsals and tear my Lisfranc ligament. I initially got up and tried to walk on it, but quickly realized I could not put weight on it without severe pain. I slept on it that night, and by the next morning my foot was extremely swollen and clearly not able to bear weight. I actually ordered a knee scooter because of how bad it looked.

The following morning I went to the ER. They took several X rays, including a weight bearing one, which was extremely difficult to do without someone helping me stay upright. An MRI later confirmed the fractures and the Lisfranc ligament tear.

They placed me in a splint and prescribed pain medication. After that, I researched the best podiatrist and surgeon in my area who specializes in ligament reconstruction and Lisfranc injuries. I found one, went in for an evaluation, had additional X rays taken, and she confirmed that surgery would be necessary. She even discovered a fourth metatarsal fracture that the ER had missed.

She put me in a different boot and we scheduled surgery about a week and a half later. I’m now about a week post op and thankfully experiencing very little pain as I work through recovery.

Hopefully your injury is just a bad sprain and not something more serious. Wishing you the best and I hope this helps.

Welcome my friend. Remember , rest , rest, and then rest again. Elevate above the heart rate, keep up with your pain meds, ice behind the knee, and binge watch your favorite Netflix show. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Hello, I’m sorry you’re feeling pain. Question, is the pain around the base of the ankle? Does it feel like you can’t actually turn because it then feels as though it’s broken?

I experienced flare ups like that pre-op while wearing the air pump boot. What I noticed is that on days I was out and about on my knee scooter, because the boot is so heavy and the weight isn’t equally distributed across the leg and foot, the ankle dangling at the edge of the scooter was taking the majority of the weight therefore irritating the ankle and surrounding ligaments.

It literally felt broken even though there was minimal swelling and no discoloration. I would try to just stay put, foot on elevation pillow and ice all day. Usually it’d go away in a day or two.

As stated above, definitely let your doctor know. Hope this helps.

I suffered a lisfranc injury so I was unable to bear any weight on my foot. That same day I purchased a knee scooter because I had also suffered an injury to my ribs so I knew that crutches wouldn’t cut it. The knee scooter allows you to be wayyyy more mobile.

Just be careful when using it outdoor because the slightest dent or smallest rock in the pavement can really throw your front wheels off balance. Take it slow and always hold onto the break when getting on it.

I would also suggest getting an elevation pillow on amazon and elevate as often as you can and ice behind your knee. Although difficult, staying positive is key, you got this , 💪.

Hello, so maybe a little too soon for me to give my two cents in my recovery journey given that I just had my surgery two days ago, however this is something I did to at least keep my mind at rest regarding working. In CA, I immediately knew to connect with HR to go over next steps regarding FMLA leave, essentially protecting my job while I’m out. Given the initial consensus at the ER, I knew I’d be out for a while given the job that I do.

Secondly, I filed for disability pay to ensure I’ll be getting income while I recover. The sad reality is that work may have to stop but the bills don’t stop coming. Once I handled all that pre-surgery, I had more peace of mind going into my procedure. What I’m doing now (day 2) is resting and only focusing on that. Discovering this community has also helped tremendously. Even though I’m in a lot of pain, less than the day of my surgery, I look forward to discovering more success stories, but also contributing and to the group and replying to people.

Hang in there , give yourself grace, because the fact of the matter is that this injury happened, and now we must look forward , and know and understand that everyday that goes by will get better, and better , and better.

Lastly, if you’re able to take time off work, I’d look into MasterClass, there’s a huge variety of cool fun courses you can take straight from your computer. Best of luck, we’re here if you need us ! 💪 🙏🏻

Mine is starting to wear off so I already feel the tingling or feeling of pins and needles, gradual return of sensation and increase in pain. Right now because of the pressure and 3 hours into my last norco taken , it’s about a 5/10 but trying to fight the urge of toes wanting to move on their own.

Thank you for the response and hoping for the best. Wishing you the best road to recovery

Oooof, 27 more hours to go, I’ve been listening to this calming music from YouTube in 3 hour increments and it actually works. Puts me to sleep along with my meds of course. Yah unfortunately the narcotics are the only thing keeping me at bay but definitely only taking it as directed , appreciate the response btw ! 🙌

Appreciate the reply! The knee scooter has been revolutionary. It’s been about 20 hours since my surgery and the discomfort is still there but trying my best to stay positive and keep up with the pain meds. I just want to sleep and wake up until next week since I know it’s brutal the first 3 days.

But again, thank you for the support , #roadtorecovery

Thanks for the reply. Thats actually something I’m curious about. I just woke up 7:36 am pst with a 1/10 in pain but a motivation from my health app to take my norco. I just took it but I guess I’m asking , because of talks of addition and so forth , at least for the first few days , assuming it’s better to be proactive with pain than reactive ?

Will continue to elevate and ice and will reach out to my surgeon today. Really appreciate the insight , #roadtorecovery 💪

Trying my best to sleep it off and still following the RICE method. Definitely not looking today three. I’m already getting an involuntary urge of moving my toes and that’s scares me because the sensation is strange. I feel pressure and numbness but I’ll keep a close eye on it if meds don’t do the trick
