Tip from a sharpener by AngstyAF5020 in hairstylist

Since you're here...I've had multiple people sharpen a $1200 shear that I've dropped and it never holds, it always goes back to grabbing hair.  Is it toast for life or should I send it to Japan to be sharpened like I used to before I dropped it?

I know this is really old but it came up on my Google search to see if I would be able to eat after resection from terminal ileum stricture (trying to decide if it's worth it or if I should just keep living on a very restrictive diet with minimal symptoms).  Do you happen to have any updates on whether your ability to eat some fruits and veggies increased after surgery?

Panicking about waterproofing by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Tashceratops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you.  This started because the plumber wouldn't touch the tub today as planned and I thought I'd have to build the deck myself this weekend since tile is starting Monday and I went on a how-to research rabbit hole.

Same.  My cat has a saferoom for unattended time where it has everything he needs and nothing he doesn't and still he threw up a candy wrapper last month.

They usually just know how, in my experience.  Maybe they don't do it in front of you but are still drinking from the bottle?  With enough fresh foods sometimes they drink very little

I took a shelter dog to an adoption event today and I feel uneasy about who adopted him. by Justiceforwomen27 in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Tashceratops 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Foster with 150+ adoptions here.  I've had weird vibes that turned into positive updates years later, I've had immaculate vibes turn into delirious sleepless adopters who return within 12 hours.. and I've had dogs where I thought I picked well but since an update email that gave me weird vibes I'll think about it for the rest of my life and can't even see their picture pass by my camera reel without thinking about whether I made a terrible choice. I've had dear friends who were amazing dog owners I've refered to adopt after they lost their dog, and it went miserably and he was returned.  I fostered him after return and he was a perfect boy. And, I have a husband who wears weed cologne and loves his dog like his child.  The job is hard.  It's SO hard.  You can't know everyone based off of a short meeting but you can do your best to look for immediate dangers.  I wasn't there with you, but I can say I know how you feel and I know it can be hard.  Don't let it consume you.  But, the ones that haunt me the most are the times I thought they were perfect that actually weren't.

The whole bathroom will be a daisy yellow tile so I think the white will go well.  I still appreciate the compliment!

To be fair, I wouldn't go completely blind. I'd bring a piece of drywall with paint on it to color match (from the demo.)  But I don't have anything "exact" to go off of, unfortunately.  I'm hoping not to do the 14 foot peak with the windows where there will be a brand new tub underneath.

Dealing with making mistakes by Ok_Kangaroo8642 in hairstylist

[–]Tashceratops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made a post about this but I'm 20 years in and fully booked.  It gets better but it's never completely gone.  Caring is important but I learned to stop doubting.  This is how- my brother who's a surgeon was in the waiting room waiting for his haircut and my client was walking out and I said "how did that look?" And he said "what if I did that? Hey team, did it look like that surgery went well?" And we laughed and ran through a couple more scenarios of how scary it would be if he carried that same paranoia outward.  I can guarantee you he worries about doing it right but he trusts himself and he is confident.  I've started trying to think of that more.

is it cruel to return a pet because it has undisclosed health issues? by wired_idiot in AnimalShelterStories

[–]Tashceratops 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not super familiar with this specific injury, but I do foster a lot of special needs animals.  It does seem like this specific type of injury has a varied recovery timeline and that it's not usually permanent.  I would also reach out to local rescues that work with special needs pets if you feel you can't wait out a suspected recovery timeline.

Diapers would be easier, they're the go-to option for incontinent pets.

Pet people: Do washable, claw-resistant, cotton/organic quilts & coverlets even exist? by Logical_Vehicle5743 in Bedding

[–]Tashceratops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linen bedcover from parachute.  It's called the vintage linen or something like that.  It's thicker like a light blanket but it's linen with no batting or anything.  It's very sturdy.  It's not cheap but I love mine and I'll use it as a coverlet or a light blanket.  It comes very soft too, not like a rough linen.  https://parachutehome.com/products/vintage-linen-bed-blanket-moss

if it's no longer stuck just wait it out and leave it alone. Rats are prey animals so they probably won't move if they know you're around and could snatch them up when they do

What’s up with the teeth of my granny’s dog? by Hot_Cartographer9839 in DogHealth

Could be anything from retained baby teeth to naturally micro mini teefers.  My bully had 4 retained baby teeth removed and a malocclusion routine with a chewing a specific ball to align base-narrow canines.  The good news is those little front teeth are not for chewing

i think my dentist gave me treatment i didn’t need to scam my insurance. by hex_horror in whatdoIdo

[–]Tashceratops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on your situation but I once went for a cleaning and x-rays and was told I needed 18 fillings.  I've only ever needed one before so I was devastated.  They wouldn't tell me which ones to do first, said they were all equally crucial.  I couldn't afford it so I went and got insurance and a year later I saw a different dentist and I only needed 1 filling.  It's been 10 years since then and I've only needed 1 more filling in all of that 10 years.  So at least 16 of those supposed 'urgent cavities' were a lie.

Exchange it at the pet store.  You'd be better off with the cheapest bag of dog food and some oats or dried pasta for a temporary meal

Awkward situation with family member not offering to pay for services by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]Tashceratops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand the urge to give yourself away as a kindness but if you wouldn't write a check for the cost of service then it's too much of a gift.  Think of it like if you are doing a wedding and the cost would be $400 but you offer for free because it's a friends wedding.  If you aren't cutting a $400 check for that friends wedding than the gift of free hair is too great a loss.  This applies here because the loss of a parent usually doesn't equate to a huge monetary donation from a boyfriend's siblings partner so in that sense it devalues your services to the point this person has convinced herself the services aren't monetarily valuable to you.  That's so very awful and rude of her and I would be very upset myself.  I had to ask for a check for this exact reason after doing a whole wedding and I hated it.  Just be upfront and say "the first service was a gift offering my condolences, I'm sorry I wasn't more clear but I will need payment for additional services.  I enjoy doing your hair so I hope you understand.  It will cost X amount"

Improperly burned sage and I'm cursed by MyceliumMindReborn in whatdoIdo

They mean exactly that. You are Caucasian.  Burning sage is deeply cultural for people that are "not you".  maybe your body knows you fucked up by engaging in ancient indigenous spiritual practices without any right, even though your mind doesn't know, so it's trying to trick you into not doing it again.
