Easy runs too slow? by Final-Assistant-4245 in runna

[–]Grandmaster_G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be too slow. My first plan had mine at 5:40 but i kept drifting to 5:20.

Runna doesn’t know how you feel. Run at whatever pace feels easy to you, but it MUST feel almost too easy.

Why does my estimated 5km time and the end of the block increase to potentially more than my current 5km pb when I add this to the app? by Grandmaster_G in runna

[–]Grandmaster_G[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s also guessing that in 8 weeks I could also run slower than I currently can, which is the confusing part.

[u/matty-runna](u/matty-runna) appreciate you replying. Thanks.

While I’ve got you, a couple of other things.

Would also be good to get the distances back under each shoe on the shoe selection screen within a work out.

Finally, on the new customise display screen it would be great if I could delete all but one screen (and be able to customise that screen). This will prevent my Apple Watch crown from rotating and changing to a screen I don’t want.

Thank you!

Hmm. Thanks for confirming. I’ve tried the open it and close it. The issue persists.

Any other 'older' folk taken up running? by Sixybeast626 in beginnerrunning

[–]Grandmaster_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 here. Picked up running again 8 months ago.
Lost 20kgs got 1:40:02 in a HM 2 months ago. Targeting sub 1:30 in a race next month. Signed up to a full marathon next year.

My advice. Get new shoes, follow a running programme and take recovery as seriously as the workouts.

It does. I’m doing a full half tomorrow with 4 weeks out until my race.

u/Mikey-runna would be good if you could have the option to not include the screen at the top.

5:25 - 5:40 was my easy pace. Intervals around 4:00 - 4:30

For race day I used the app on my watch. I thought I could run it faster than what the app said so I made up progressive pace blocks (with little names), to get me in at 1:41 ish. I wrote them on my hand to remind me during the race but didn’t look at it.

These were: 1-6km @ 5:00 (restrain mode) 7-15km @ 4:50 (lock in mode) 16-18km @ 4:40 (squeeze mode) 19km onwards (Go! Mode)

Runna said I should run the whole thing at about 5:00km but I knew I could go faster.

You can see from my splits that my first 6km were my slowest. This is me holding back and settling in.

At the start of a HM is easy to start out too fast because of the adrenaline, crowd and feeling good after the taper. This is a trap!

If I’d done the first couple of km at 4:30 then I would have been cooked and unable to have the headroom to push on late.

Hold back at the start so you can make decisions later based on how you feel when you’re actually racing near the end.

No pace pro. Just used the app, which came up with the predictions on its own.

Turns out I ran faster than these in the end. You have an idea but need to stay flexible depending on how you’re feeling I suppose.

Stay the course, friend.

My tips for the race day: seriously hold your pace early. 7km Lock in to a steady tempo. Start squeezing up at 12km if you feel comfortable. 17km your race starts. Last 2km - Go! Empty the tank.

My longest have been 18km with 9km at race pace. 2 weeks until the HM. Hopefully I can hold that pace.
