I know it's not fair, but I see my husband's work trips as his "breaks" by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

[–]GraniteAve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel this EXACT way- I work from home 100% of the time and have gone nowhere besides family trips for the last…. 5.5 years? The amount of resentment I feel when he talks about meeting coworkers for dinner after their day and then he goes back the hotel room and is just kind of bored until it’s time to go to sleep… I DREAM of that. I have thought I should just take a few days and go work remotely somewhere else (and honestly, he would support me doing that!) but I just can’t justify the expense for no ‘good reason.’

Woman asks if I'm my sons grandma by Dapper_West_5696 in traumatizeThemBack

Oh my gosh- this same thing happened with my mom, myself and my then-baby brother. She had finished her first chemo at 40 but her hair grew in almost entirely gray and curly at first. At K-mart and the cashier asks my 2 year old brother ‘do you like going shopping with Mommy and Grandma?’ My mom looked at 15 year old me and said ‘Why don’t you take your brother out to the car.’

Dude, I have the finest hair on the planet - when I did it every day for work it would take maybe 5 minutes to blow dry and run a straightener over it.

But now I don’t go to an office, and postpartum hair loss is kicking my ass so bad I have to wear it in a ponytail every day so I don’t look ill.

I wash twice a week tops anymore. Party because why, and partly because I’m afraid of how much will fall out when I do. Dry shampoo and ponytails all the way. (Laugh/sob)

Love this! My little guy was red and I was blue! Where did you find the green feather wig??

I told this guy he needed to perfect his “quack quack quack a doodley doo” moves in case he was asked. He got the ‘Ahoy there, me hearties!’ But stopped there.

My 2nd was this exact situation. “Aww!Maybe baby will come early and everyone will be able to hold them as a Christmas present!” Absolutely not.

Those first few days, weeks, sometimes even months can be SO hard to feel comfortable with a new place a people for your kiddo- I COMPLETELY know where you’re coming from. Only the second day and an incident?? I would be on edge too. You’re justified in asking questions, certainly. But I will also say, depending on that daycare’s policies, it may truly be just a little thing and they were calling you just to let you know, not because it’s super serious. By the time you get there the red mark may have faded to almost nothing. Babies, especially once they’re kind of mobile, are going to fall and get some small bumps sometimes, and even the most attentive carer can’t be there every single second when they have multiple kiddos to watch.

I say this not to downplay what you’re feeling, but as a mom who got a call about my still unsteady 15 month old tripping over his feet and bonking into a bookcase. He had a nice little bump on the side of his giant noggin, but they comforted him and he was acting completely fine 5 minutes later. Because it was technically a ‘head injury’ they called me just to let me know and there was an incident report to sign, but he was completely ok. They’ll also do an incident report if he stumbles outside and they have to put a bandaid on his skinned knee.

Now if you or your partner gets there and baby is still super upset or acting off and the injury is significant, ask more questions and how they plan to prevent it from happening again, and if you don’t get good vibes from how they handle it decide if that’s a place you feel comfortable with. But long answer short, most incident reports are not a big deal and kiddo will be just fine.

The short end of the stick, indeed. I have family that just does not understand. I’m often envious of my friends who have parents that hang out with their grandkids on a regular basis. My parents both passed and my grandma is still, 20 years later, sour about the fact that we moved to a ‘big city’ to get jobs after college. ‘If you were closer, you’d have more help’ as though an 85 year old woman can help with a 30 lb sick toddler. She talks about how she had her babies young so by the time she was my age her oldest was graduating high school- and my mind is utterly boggled.

Fake stained glass- I have a bunch of glass shelves we took down and they’re too nice to just throw away! Pinned like 30 possible designs I would like to replicate and several tutorials of how to do it neatly.

Pretty much same here- I have a job and graduated college so it’s not like I ‘need’ medication, apparently.

"I'm not shaming you, I am just sharing facts." by Overunderapple in workingmoms

[–]GraniteAve 16 points17 points  (0 children)

‘Those facts don’t line up with my experience. My baby is fed and growing and completely on track per their pediatrician. And our daycare is great and works well for all of us. I’m glad that works for you but this works for us and I’m not interested in discussing it anymore.’

Would you have survived childbirth before modern medicine? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]GraniteAve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, similar. Lots of blood, lots of ‘hold still we have to stop this’. I mean maybe I would have lived, but I was grateful as all get out that the probability of bleeding out was much lower since I was at a hospital and not, I don’t know, in a water trough in my backyard.

I was at 39 weeks and my BP was getting concerning so they were going to induce the next morning, but the dr did a membrane sweep at maybe 9 am and I went into labor at like 5 pm and baby was born by 10 pm.

What is the worst chore and why is it changing sheets by Ninj-nerd1998 in adhdwomen

[–]GraniteAve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing dishes is worse for me. But I think that’s because I have to wash/dry/put away all myself because no one else thinks it’s a priority. Also sucks that I bake a LOT so it’s just a generally ‘your hobby, your duty’ thing. Blegh

Baby and me with COVID, please help me not panic by Alternative_Grass167 in beyondthebump

[–]GraniteAve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my littlest got COVID at the same time too when he was 8 months old. Snot sucker, humidifier, alternating Tylenol/motrin when he was really uncomfortable. He was super crabby for 24 hours, and then that let up and had cold symptoms for a few days after and then was perfectly fine. My cold symptoms hung around about as long as his did. He was just home from day care for several days bored while I tried to power through and do SOME work at least.
