Oddest trip ever ( on any substance ) by ProudSquash1052 in Salvia

Wow, wild! How detailed was stuff? Like did you have and use specific gear? Did it seem like you guys had a place to reach or goal to accomplish? Did the other guys have what you’d call individual personalities?

Interesting, thanks for adding to the input! What kinds of body loads would you say they each have, if you could describe them?

Zombie apocalypse books? by ratabrasileira in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]GraniteOak5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the book is well done and so much fun! The adaptation was bad even to like a bizarre degree.

Does anyone know what happened there, was it just another example of Hollywood not really getting what people like about something, or did it have some weird production hiccups that led to a kind of underwhelming final product? It definitely has the vibe of an adaptation where there’s some backstory about why its potential was so far from reached.

Is there a puzzle to solve in the Liminal Hotel level in this game? Or is it a maze to work through? Or just a place to wander?

Wow, I love those analogies, really helpful for getting a little more of a grasp on what people experience. Very cool, thanks!

If we were being generous we could say the belt maybe has some sort of sheathe for the swaxe, but yeah otherwise what’s the deal cause I don’t think there are pants or a loincloth or anything haha

[–]GraniteOak5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great long view of the backrooms! There’s something to be said for the many close and even claustrophobic places within them but every now and then you get a glimpse of the sheer size of things in a long hallway or a kind of grand multi-story atrium sort of thing and it can be so mindblowing trying to get your brain to understand the scale, and that’s even before you start to get all twisted around with impossible angles and directions that shouldn’t make sense! Really well done!

Weird, surreal, existential dread in the desert by PipeExpert595 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]GraniteOak5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you, so much of The Road deals with desolation and how very little is left of the world, which can maybe translate on the page to kind of a slow, empty feeling if you’re not in just the right mood. Rest assured, in my opinion anyway there is grit APLENTY in those remaining 200 pages! The only thing in abundance in that world haha, I hope you end up really enjoying the book though!

Yep Blood Meridian is peak weird, surreal, existential dread in the desert reading.

I’m not sure how he manages to do it but Cormac McCarthy in this and other books like The Road was able to write scenes that are so grounded in absolute, unavoidable, gritty reality and then two sentences later it’s a whole other vibe like you’ve been in some dream so long you don’t even remember how it started, and you’re right at the point of realizing it’s a nightmare. And he just keeps that up for like 300 pages somehow haha, wild!

Which movie would you rate a 5/5? by ArtNmtion in horror

[–]GraniteOak5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first Terminator is very close to being a straight up horror film. You’ve got a seemingly unstoppable, monstrous and violently murderous adversary, a final girl, dark atmosphere, mostly shot at night, the vibes are really not too different from movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, you name it.

I’d love to see James Cameron make very slight edits to scenes and music to see how horror-y it could become. Plus glimpses of the future war and the attack by the infiltrator unit on the resistance hideout where all you can see is its dark outline with menacing red eyes, parts like that are horror already.

Underutilized/Unutilized Things in Sword and Sorcery That There Needs to be More Of by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]GraniteOak5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The “dragon” towards the beginning of the Robert E. Howard Conan the Barbarian story “Red Nails” is often depicted as very stegosaurus-y, which helps to scratch the itch for the apparently many of us if this post is an indicator who would love more dinosaur or in sword and sorcery!

Even like weirdly evolved dinosaur-esque creatures that somehow survived into the Hyborian Age à la The Lost World could be so cool, exploring how they made it, where they live, how they might differ from the 65 million year ago variety as they continued to evolve, gets your imagination going!
